About
Located in Orangeburg, Hillcrest Golf Club is ranked as one of the best municipal courses in the Carolinas. It is a championship course that is both challenging and at the same time playable. The course is wide open off the tees but there is the occasional raised bunker lurking along some of the fairways. The undulating greens are fair but challenging with strategically placed bunkers guarding the putting surfaces. Mature trees line the fairways and there are a few water hazards but they do not pose a serious threat. Overall, it is a golf course that is enjoyable for all skill levels. It offers a good balance of player-friendly elements with an interesting mix of challenges. Hillcrest G.C. also has a driving range, putting and chipping greens, and a practice bunker. In addition to golf, the club has four lighted tennis courts.

Work left to do but improving
I booked a 2-some for $10 each and enjoyed our round. The girl in the pro shop was very helpful and explained to us that the course was going through changes and slowly improving. The course itself was in good condition but the greens still need growing in. They rolled slow and definitely need top dressing to level out. The tees and fairways were weedy but for the most part full of grass. For the discounted price I would recommend and would definitely play again- not ready to pay regular price of $27 until greens roll true.
Easy layout from the tees
Played this course right after the Sunday tournament and there was along line of people waiting for the return of any carts from the tournament finish. We could not detect a trace of grass on almost all of the greens, maybe in 6 weeks there will be some grass. All the greens had just been dusted with sand so putts were not going as read.
This is a county course
Good course for the average golfer. Not very difficult but challenging enough to require attention to shot selection and direction. Very good for the higher handicap and senior golfers.
Greens need work
Staff friendly. Facilities dated. Carts perfect. Tee boxes healthy. Fairways healthy. Greens crusty. Had some type of dye on them trying to cover up how dry they were. If the greens were healthy it would rate a 10 in this area.
Great course for the money
Great course for the price. It has some challenging holes!!
This is a very fun course! Relatively open, but required some shot making!
This was a great value through golf Now. Golf pro was very personal and friendly! Had good food there, but he later sent us to a great restaurant for supper! Very enjoyable course. When the grass comes in, it will be really nice.
Fun
Fun place to play with variety of types of holes. Some were tight off the tee and some were wide open. I had a great time
Nice course for the money
This course is very well kept, everything was nice and neat, the greens rolled good, sandtraps were freshly raked, course was very nice for this time of year.
Great way to spend a Saturday
Everything was great. Beautiful day, and the course was in nice shape. Staff was extremely friendly. Every time we go up there, we are amazed of how few people are there. The drive from Summerville is easy and the course is always ready to be played. Well worth the ride and you can never beat the price.

great features. nice greens.
Fairways were good, greens were smooth and well manicured. Pace was a bit slow to start but picked up after a few holes. Overall good experience.
Player friendly
Besides a few bad spots on the greens and fairways, the course was in decent condition. The coarse is fairly open, making it kind for errant tee shots. Very few lost balls due to over growth or water hazards. Enjoyed the round and would play it again.
Nice staff, great course quality, and fantastic experience
Jake treated us very well in our initial experience at the course. Played around 1pm on a Sunday, and it was great to have the option of walking nine holes. The course was in great condition, with a challenging course layout. Thanks for the experience - we will be back.

I enjoyed playing this course. They do need to plant some winter grass in the fairways. They have some good sandwiches and snacks to eat at the clubhouse.
This course has awesome features.
Hillcrest Golf Course holes are maintained fairly well, they vary in difficulty, and they are just beautiful to play on. Especially holes 4-8 and a few beautiful holes on the back nine.
Working on the greens
The course has an easy layout but the greens were just airrated so it was tough putting.
