A long way back to the top of that hill! Photo submitted by u000006503721 on 11/18/2012
HIDDEN GEM, ON THE UPRISE!!!
TANGLEWOOD WAS IN GOOD SHAPE, GREENS RUNNING FAST AND TRUE. FAIRWAYS WERE CUT AND RAN WHEN I ACTUALLY HIT THEM. LEAVES COULD BE ISSUE LATER IN THE YEAR, I HADN'T PLAYED TANGLEWOOD IN 10 YEARS SINCE A BAD LAST OUTING. I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. PLAYED MIDDAY AND DIDN'T SEE ANOTHER PLAYER. LANDSCAPE IS HILLIER THEN I REMEMBERED. OVERALL A GOOD EXPERIENCE.
Soggy, but fun!
Tanglewood is a great value now that it is available to the public. It suffers when conditions are wet, and two holes in particular are frequently soggy -- with standing water on the fairways (2 and 10). Other than that, a great track.
Great history, above average condition ...
I enjoyed this course that once hosted PGA events, however, those days are past. Placing condition aside, the course is a challenge based on a combination of layout and to a lesser degree distance. I will qualify that just by saying I am bit of longer ball player. However, the strategic challenge of elevation changes, twists and turns require good power with finesse.
I would say most players of private clubs would rate the fairways and greens at below average. I would say the course condition is equivalent to average that of better public courses.
The course with a few years of aggressive care could host an LPGA, Juniors or State Amateurs tournaments. As for my experience, I played the course in its best days and again recently. I very much enjoyed the people I played with, the clubhouse and the memories. There conditional issues were exaggerated by the very dry summer.
Course was nice. Some holes under repair/maintenance.

Not many amenities to offer.
Greens are very nice!
Greens are very good, course needs a little TLC.
!!
Really glad we played!
I read that Fuzzy Zoeller said that all they had to do was grow the rough and they could play the open here. Could be! This course is a challenging, pro-style layout. A former private club that has been force to go semi-private (or semi-public, if you will) in order to survive. A common scenario in NE Ohio. The clubhouse is a little disheveled, but I'm OK with that if they're taking care of the course. There were a few rough spots, but it was because the course was being worked on, not neglected. Besides the design, the best part was the greens. Large, lots of contour, would hold a shot, and fast as lightning! Loved them! I want to play here again, and definitely worth your while.
