Bathrooms
Great course.. But they need more bathrooms or even ports potties. Sometimes guys finish and have to run to the bathroom. I couldn’t imagine it in the summer
Weekend warriors
Typical group sof slow weekend players making pace of play on the course on the weekends very very slow. Course in average shape. No need to have “cart path only” signs on many of the holes.
Great condition
Very impressed of the course conditions after not playing here since it’s reopened. The greens were fast and in excellent shape and I will definitely be back often. Keep up the great work.
Atascocita, "You're gonna make me lonesome when [I] go"
Atascocita G.C. proved to be a challenging play recently. When I learned it had 3 x 9-hole courses, I assumed this average golfer would score well but I was mistaken. Playing from the white tees, the Pinehurst and Point Courses seemed fairly long. The grass is dormant now so expect extra roll on the fairways and roughs. Though the course is situated among a housing development there were at least 2 or 3 wide fairways on each nine. The greens were very fast and quite a challenge. Even, at this time of the year, Atascocita is worth a play. You even may be "lonesome when you go [home]" to paraphrase Bob Dylan.
The Big A is a busy place!
For a Tuesday this course was packed! But still managed to get around in 4:05 hrs with about 5-6 holes playing cart path only!. Had to wait on several shots, but for the most part it moved. The course was in decent shape for the dead of winter and the greens were in good shape. Bunkers were raked. The marshal made a couple of passes and the beverage cart passed us at least 4 times.
Will return again for sure especially with a hot deal.
Slow play
Start time was 11:30.am Finished 18 holes 4:15 pm. Course was in ok condition for winter. Greens were good speed except for hole 7 on point course. Too fast for the hole placement. 6 holes were cart path only. Cart was dirty. I wiped down myself. No water on course but the cart girl made it around twice per 9 holes of play. The group in front of us was 1 hole behind on front 9. 2 holes behind on back 9. Marshall should have made those Sr move.
Arascocita
Great course the pace of play was excellent and the course in great condition after lots of rain two days before. The greens were fast and a good challenge.
Needs work
Overall the courses are very good, as of lately the tee times have been so stacked that slow play has become an issue, to the point of me no longer making The big A my go to place for a round of golf. Here are a few things that need dire attention
-stacked tee times=slow play
-tee boxes are in Uneven and over played
-bunkers are like mud
-carts are outdated and often breakdown
- driving range mats are in horrible condition and location of mats should be elevated from water and dirt run off. Mats should not have concrete directly under them .
-push carts should be placed on a different course
Good points
-friendly staff
-large driving range and practice areas
-3 courses of rotation
-programs for beginners
Great Round
Good pace of play even playing by myself until the last few holes which was to be expected. I got lucky Excellent fast greens which I like.
Interesting
The layout of the course was interesting going through neighborhoods and all the homes around the course. Then crossing the streets with the golf carts was interesting too. Not in a bad way at all. I will definitely play there again. The greens were a great challenge with some steep angles where if you miss your ball will roll 30 feet. Great value and I did not notice the last two holes the cart has to stay in the path but the staff was friendly in telling us. We had a fast round and we will be back.
