Love It
I play here at least once a week. Pinehurst and The Point are pretty similar courses that are always in fair shape. The Shores course has some nice elevation changes and is by far their best track. This facility is the best course in the area for the price.
Excellent Course
Great course. Fairways are in excellent condition and the greens were fast even though they had recently been aerated. Will be booking tee times again very soon.
Atacocita Golf Club
First the pros- This is a great old course that management is slowly bringing back to life. Green fees are in line for a course of this type and the staff is very friendly. We played the Point and Pinehurst 9's. Very fair layout with about a 70/118 from the white tees. Some minor forced carries over ravines, waste areas, and water. The tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and rough were overall in good condition.
Non Issues- Different from most courses you pick your own cart from the parking lot then wind your way through the facilities to the clubhouse. From the clubhouse it's about a 200 yard cart ride to the Point and Pinehurst courses.
Cons- We played on a Monday and it felt like a Saturday. Groups on the tee box, fairway, and greens all day long. Had to wait for almost every shot. It ended up being almost a five hour round on a Monday. Maybe the cooler temperatures brought everyone out. There is no grill and the snack options are sparse. Plenty of liquid refreshments available though. Plan ahead unless you want to make the trek back to the clubhouse at the turn. Lastly, the greens were aerated and sanded but not a word from the clubhouse staff, starter or even signage. This is a pet peave of mine and something a golfer should be advised of before the start of the round. Nothing worse than having your first approach shot hit the green with a splash of sand when you're not expecting it.
Overall the good outweighs the bad and I'm sure we'll be back again soon.
Aeration Alert
We played Atascocita Golf Club on 5/6/17 and the greens had been aerated recently, and were sandy to say the least.
I know that courses have to aerate and sand, but it would have been nice to know as other courses give you this disclaimer on Golf Now with an alert.
Overall the course was in pretty good shape and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
We played Pinehurst and Shores
A good course to try out
This is not a difficult course to play. I have a handicap of 23 and shot an 85 this first time I've ever played it. That is the best score I've had in a long time. The main problem was the condition of the greens. They were extremely sandy and had been aerated only a few days before we played it. Even so, the greens were still manageable, but, a few putts were definitely negatively affected by the sandiness and holes in the surface. In a few weeks when the sand has settled and they get some rain, these greens should be pretty good. Everything else on the course was more than acceptable to me. There were a few wet spots on tee boxes and in the fairways, but, for the price, better than fair. I would definitely come back to play this course again.
Greens had recently been aerated and I wasn't made aware of this at the clubhouse or by the starter. Other than that the course is in pretty good shape.
Greens were in great shape, the best we've played in this area so far.
Nice course!
I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions of this course. The greens were great, with a few exceptions of poa growing here and there. Missing a fairway meant playing from the trees, not a lost ball. Most of the par 4's put a premium on accuracy over distance. The par 3's however, require some length if you intend to play the back tees (blue). The shortest par 3 from the blue tees is 175 yards. I definitely plan on going back.
Good Couse
Only thing this course needs is a grill for lunch breaks
The course is pleasing to the eye.
The course will challenge all aspects of your golf game. From drawing the ball to fading. It allows you to experience both great shots and not so good. I enjoyed my day.
Nice round on same 2 courses
We would like to play Pinehurst, but it's always closed. Shores is nice, Point is ok. Greens were ok. Ball washer water smelled & looked like sewer water.
great course for the money
I nave played there 2 times before the course is in great shape
Has potential, but needs work
Course layout is challenging and tight. Fairways had not been mowed recently and greens do not roll true. Okay value for under $30-40.
Challenging
Played tough through the first nine on the point with long 3's and fast moving and sloped greens. Pin placement was also a negative for my round with no experience on course hard to read. Played with someone who played often and that helped but was still challenging to say the least. Shores was better suited for my game but was still a challenge. I liked open fairways with ease of recovery on a mishit shot.
Great value and great deal for vets and first responders
27 holes of great golf. Wouldn't mind living around the courses
Don't Show Up Alone
I booked a 12:10 tee time alone, thinking I could get a quick afternoon round in on a windy day. Despite having a tee time, there was a line of about 3 groups to start off the Shores tee box. The starter, Garry Stewart, accosted me for trying to walk on without a tee-time. I had to harshly correct him in front of the other players and remind him that I did pay for a tee time and that his course is not Walden or Kingwood, and nobody paying $30 or more dollars for Atascocita deserves to hear any lip from a marshal or starter who cannot manage course traffic, on top of having to deal with the cut-rate conditions of this place. If you live further than five minutes away from Atascocita and you don't enjoy being talked down to by people from a second-class golf course - don't bother playing here.
Great value!
Atascocita' s conditions are improving daily and the staff continues to work very hard to bring this beautiful course back to its grandeur in the 80's-90's. I'm looking forward to playing this course more and more this spring/summer! Great value!
