Conditions are coming back
The course has been getting horrible reviews last few months. But it is coming back fairways and tee boxes are perfect. Greens are really good but there are sand and burnt spots on all greens. But shouldn't effect play to much as they are generally around edges.
Pretty good with some bare spots on greens
Overall Cleburne is in good shape but not great. Some bare spots on the greens. They rolled ok outside of the burned out spots. Fairways were. In pretty good to great shape. Pace of play was very good and the value was excellent.
Great staff, great fairways
The fairways were beautiful, love the location right on the lake. Only complaint would be the greens are in need of some serious work!
Always a Pleasure
On average I'd say I play here at least twice a month, and I drive an hour and 15 one way, passing maybe a dozen other courses because this place has the nicest people and the best value for the price you pay. I will continue to play here and whenever my adult kiddos fly into town, they always insist on playing here too.
That price for those greens??
Arrived at the course after not playing it for several years. My hiatus was due to the poor attitudes often displayed from the clubhouse desk. Upon checking in, I asked how was the course condition. The desk gentlemen said excellent, paused, then said the course was great and the greens were okay. That was an understatement!! I don't want to say every green, but most were in less than playable. With those conditions, there should've been a disclaimer... an honest statement so we know what to expect... After the round, I asked the same desk attendant about their plans to make the greens better and he seemed offended that I even questioned him. "They just need less sun" or something silly like that. It's not "cheap" to play this course, but knowing what you're walking in to world be nice. Now I know... and so do you. Additionally, a 95+ degree day and saw beverage cart once, and the grill was closed after our round. I know because when I walked into the unlocked grill area after our round to get refreshed, the desk attendant gave me a stern "what are you doing in there? It's closed!" and said he was selling sodas in the pro shop. All in all, nice course layout with bad greens, management, and attitudes to match. SEE YA!
I love this course!
All you need to know is this...I live 80 miles away from this course. It takes about 90 minutes to get there. EVERYTIME I'm driving there I question why I'm doing this, and then I get there! And I'm like Oh yeah. And then I get on the 1st Tee box and I'm like "OH YEAH!!"
I have NEVER been disappointed in a round at this course. I wish I lived closer so I could play it more often!
The course was in really good shape. The rough is thick and can cause striking difficulties. The greens were in pretty good shape. They rolled a little slow but ran true. Teed off at 720 with the dew out strong. We really enjoyed the course
Love this links style course!
This course is about an hour and a half away from where I live...and everytime I play there i think on the drive "why am I driving this far, why am I doing this?
And then I get there, and I tee up on the 1st hole and remember, "Oh yeah, this is why." I love the links style. I love that many of the holes are along the lake and you can feel the breeze that blows off the water. Tee boxes were fabulous, fairways amazing! There were a few greens that could use some touch up, but truly overall amazing!! I have NEVER been disappointed when I play this course!!
Greens need work
Cart path only rule on dry fairway was peculiar especially considering that the greens are in horrific shape.
Good layout but greens need help
Really bad greens on some holes, particularly the front 9. Alternating dirt / bare patches, slick spots, and fuzzy slow spots made judging speed, line, and landing spots very difficult. Hard to get a consistent roll on the ball. Often chipping over dirt patches. Putting / chipping is half the game, so it is disappointing to arrive at the course and realize you will likely lose a number of strokes in the round just due to poor greens. Fairways in good shape. Challenging course in the wind. Course would be 5 stars for the price and definitely worth the drive from Fort Worth if the greens were in better / more consistent shape.
Grumpy Old Men
Pro staff had no personality what so ever. We were told would could not play with 5 (which the rules did state no more than 4), but we say alot of other people playing 5 and 6 in a group. I would imagine they were probably members and we all know the members want be total to follow the rules, but have a problem if non-members dont. The greens were some of the worst greens I have ever played. I enjoying going out and having a good time with friends and family on a course and that is all this course would be good for, but they act like it is a stop on the PGA. Our tee time was 8am and didn't see a cart girl until we got to hole 8 or 9. This is poor service especially on a holiday weekend. I will play again just because it is convert to my location, but I would definitely not recommend coming from out of town to play this course.
I’ve seen better
A lot of the greens were majority dead with hard panned dead grass and the good areas were full of crab grass. No well maintained. Playing from the blues I had a hard time teeing up because the ground was rock solid.
There were no hole layouts on the cards or the tee box yardage signs. So you don’t know what you’re getting into if you have never played the course before.
Just overall not well maintained, but if you’re wanting to kill some time and be on the course, might as well play.
Beware - Awful
Staff was probably the least courteous I have experienced in north Texas. Range was closed, pro shop staff made you feel like you annoyed them by checking in, no drinks (alcohol or not). The beer cart was first seen at hole 8 but didn't even have any drinks of any kind, she was there to only check if we brought outside drinks in. She told us she would send a cart out and it would be about 45 minutes. We finally got drinks 3 hours in.
I could forgive that if the course had any pride in taking care of the course. It was mowed recently but all grass clippings were left. The greens had no grass and potholes everywhere. It is like playing golf course plinko. Fairways were ok, sand traps where overgrown and concrete sand. Some traps you might fall into no knowing there was a one there because the grass had overgrown it so badly.
Awesome location for a course, but they take zero pride in the course condition. Not sure who rated this course any higher than a 2, there is no way.
Greens were the worst condition.
With all the rain, the green should’ve been in great shape
