Monte Cristo Golf & Country Club
About
Until the new Los Lagos club opened recently, Monte Cristo, previously known as Palacio, was the only 18-hole course in Edinburg. The name of the game here is dealing with the wind, which seems to always blow from the Gulf and makes the course much more difficult.
Getting there : Exit Monte Cristo off 281 south, then turn left and drive 2.5 miles to the course.

Pretty much a back yard
Course has all types of grass which sounds cool until you stripe it on a fairway and you’re stuck playing out of carpet grass, good shots aren’t rewarded. Pace of play was rough at best. It’s common to allow 5-somes and no Marshall monitoring. Luckily it wasn’t dirty but the range and amenities really weren’t too good.
If you can catch a “hot deal” , it’s worth the $20-25.
Hope to try again in the spring.
Great price, and course was in good condition
Good course to play with some interesting holes. Relatively easy to play, especially since the bunkers have been filled in with grass. Greens were on the slow side and grass was spotty in some places, but over all very puttable. No rough to speak of, also making it easy on wayward shots. Would play again.

Good shape considering other courses. Grump in a 5some not happy the others let me play through. Starter was very pleasant. Greens pretty good
RGV Prime Course
For the RGV area, this is one of the nicest courses around, front 9 so much different than the back 9, greens were amazing, tee boxes and fairways were one of the best around. Certainly for the price you cannot be disappointed. Bar, pro shop were nice, did not have anything to eat but there was a wedding happening
Best greens in the RGV
Good fairways make the course easy to maneuver and the greens are one of the better ones in the area. The course is mostly straight which also makes it easy to play. Although the course is mostly straight it has obstacles like water and distance that make it challenging. So if you want to enjoy a nice and relaxing round of golf Monte Cristo is your kind of course.
Wait……..
Finally started with 45 min. delay. Quality of the green was poor.
Great value
First time playing, thought the course was on very good overall condition. Flat course with some water very playable. Will be back
