Royal American Links Golf Club
About
Royal American Links Golf Club pays homage to the birthplace of golf, the seaside links of Scotland, an inspiration that is also reflected in the architecture of the clubhouse. The 18-hole course was created in the traditional link-style but with added features not typical of the classic design including water coming into play on nearly every hole. There are also large, deep bunkers protect the sloping greens, many of which are double-tiered. Royal American Links Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 12th. Its green is guarded by a not only a large rock wall but also water to the front and left. There is a large bunker to the left of the green that will swallow any errant shots but players with a sharp short game will be able to manage.

Great place to play
Played here before & the course never disappoints. The greens are near perfect.
Fun course
This was my first time playing Royal American, and it was pretty fun after it stopped raining and lightninging. I did have one of my worst rounds in a while here but if I didn't hit six balls in the water, it wouldn't have been that bad. Even after some rain the greens were still pretty fast. After the round I went to get something to eat, and it was 3.25 for a hot dog. I've never seen a hot dog that much overpriced. Anyway it still was pretty good. With everything I said the round was pretty fun and I hope to come back soon.
Five and a half Hours
Nice course but five and a half hour round. I get it was Saturday but no rangering observed. Lost interest at the turn but a great chicken salad sandwhich.
Totally unenjoyable experience - stay away from Royal American
I met up with a buddy from college for a weekend of golfing in Columbus. We played The Players Club, Longaberger and Royal American.
I dont know if I would even play Royal American again if it were free.
Pro shop manager was rude and tried to argue with me when I said we just golfed 18 holes and never saw a cart girl and that that water jugs were either empty or hot water in them. It was extremely hot and humid. No water to be found in any of the coolers on the course and no beverage drink cart as they were using the cart girl to prep for afternoon private outing.
Course cart paths are in horrible shape. The bunkers have zero drainage and almost zero sand.
My recommendation would be to go elsewhere.
A great course to play!
This course was in great condition, considering the amount of rain we've had in the Central Ohio area. The pace of play was a little slow, but everyone seemed to be out taking advantage of the best day for golf in about a month. The staff here is excellent, from the bar/grill, to the pro shop, all the way out to the grounds crew. I would recommend this course to anyone, and I will be back to play here soon.
Great course.
Unusually busy for a Monday. Great pace of play tho. Great weather and great course.
Good couse
Course it was good to have been clean and maintenance. In addition, staff is also good, I was able to comfortably play.
Great Course - Previous Weather didn't agree
The course was really nice. The previous days had saturated the fairways and greens. By the time we made it out it was cart path only and there were only a few spots of standing water. The greens dried up quickly and played really nice. The pace was one of the only downfalls. There was a log jam due to some scheduling issues but I will say the staff's friendly nature helped quite a bit. Andy, the assistant pro, outlined the course really nicely for us and was just a pleasure to speak with.
Excellent course
This was an excellent course. Super friendly staff and pace of play was great. The greens rolled really nice and the entire course was in good shape.
Nice course
I've started playing more gold this year. I've played several courses around Columbus. So far this is the nicest one and with golf now it's a great value. The course is well kept. It provides challenging holes as well as some to redeem your game and leave feeling good about yourself.
A pleasant test
First time playing Royal American this year, but not the first time ever.
royal American is an interesting challenge, and one of the more difficult public courses close to town. The course isn't tight, but neither is it wide open. Well placed creeks and bunkers force you to choose your shots carefully, and on many holes, a driver off the tee is NOT your best choice. If you have trouble keeping it within 30 yards of the centerline, you might want to go somewhere a little more open.
The course was in great shape. Tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens all well manicured, with very little ground under repair. The bunkers were in the best condition of any of the public courses I've played this year. Firm not fluffy, but still very playable compared to some of the relative parking lots many courses are featuring for sand these days. About the only beef with the course conditions is that the paved cart paths could use a little maintenance is spots, with some pretty good potholes here and there that will jar your cart pretty bad if you aren't watching the road close. Given a choice between maintaining the course and maintaining the cart path, the course wins 10 times out of 10, so pay attention to where you drive...
Pace of play was outstanding, our round was done in a crisp 4:15, including a relatively lengthy stop at the turn for a sandwich and a stop at the bar before making the turn. With many publics on a busy day, the pace is drifting north of 5 hours, so a pace close to 4 is refreshing.
Overall a great round of golf and a solid public course. Worth your time a long as you have the skills to keep it within sight of the fairway.
nice ,straightforward
nice course, nice people, medium fast greens, smooth, plays to yardage off nicely cared for tees.
Corse was in great condition
Course was very busy on Sunday but pace of play was great. Had a blast and would recommend this course to anyone!
Tough Rough
Nice course. Played 2 days after serious rain. Course very wet. Cart path only conditions.
Staff very freindly. This course has real rough. Keep it in the fairway. Would play again.
"Hairy"
Overall the course is in good condition but not spectacular. My only concern is the greens. They are super slow which it had rained the day before but they were super slow. I'm used to greens that roll in the 12-14 range. These greens were at best a 5. The course is also on the shorter side so scoring is fairly easy.
Decent enough course
Played this course after 24 hours of rain. Course held up pretty well, though several bunkers had standing water in them and were unplayable (you could play those that didn't). The creek that runs through the property was overflowing and swift, so that areas was damper (with reason) than the rest pf the course.
Minor quibbles: (1) Booked a twosome, but got paired up with an twosome with an earlier tee time. While i'm usually OK with this as it can lead to interesting conversations, I hadn't seen my buddy for awhile and hoped to talk with him more. (2) Get the rangers and superintendent dandelion pullers. There didn't seem to be a lot on the fairway, but my ball seemed to find all of them.
Course will likely pick up difficulty through the season as they let patches rough grow out for that inland links-style.
Better than ever!
Played Royal plenty of times over the years. Upon arriving for an early tee time the crew was still mowing greens. I was surprised to see a rolling machine as well, this made the greens flawless. The fairways and tees were just as nice. As the course has matured the rough has filled in well. Bunkers were consistent. This course will not overwhelm you with length but with water coming into play on 13/18 holes, you better hit it where you need to.
First timer
This was my first time playing Royal American and I had a good time. Good shots are rewarded and bad shots are tough to recover from. The rough is very thick and required an extra club most times.
Great condiition
Royal American was in terrific condition. Pace of play was good.
Only concern was no one working in the bar / restaurant at 9:00am and no lights on in restrooms as well but overall really nice golf experience.
Superb Condition
My brother and I played this course April 29th just before the leagues teed off at 5:15pm. We played 18 holes in 3 hours....awesome! The course was in superb shape! Staff was very accommodating! I'll definitely play here again if the course remains in the shape that it was when we played.
