Royal American Links Golf Club
About
Royal American Links Golf Club pays homage to the birthplace of golf, the seaside links of Scotland, an inspiration that is also reflected in the architecture of the clubhouse. The 18-hole course was created in the traditional link-style but with added features not typical of the classic design including water coming into play on nearly every hole. There are also large, deep bunkers protect the sloping greens, many of which are double-tiered. Royal American Links Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 12th. Its green is guarded by a not only a large rock wall but also water to the front and left. There is a large bunker to the left of the green that will swallow any errant shots but players with a sharp short game will be able to manage.

Columbus trip
I liked the course. Course was in good shape. Some holes not marked very clearly. Good value. We thought the yardage for the green tee boxes was not accurate. Far shorter than the card showed.
Great location
I really enjoyed the location out in the wilderness. Was very relaxing and peaceful. Course conditions and pace of play were great.
Challenging links-style course
The thick rough, competitively-placed traps and occasional water hazards make it a challenge despite the wide fairways and separation from the trees. A seemingly good tee shot can leave a challenging approach or even forced drop. One needs to get to know exactly where the hazards loom.
The course was in goog condition.
Greens were great
Fairways were in good condition
The only negative for me (bogey + player) was that if you didn't hit the fairway or the green, you were in some thick ruff.
Underachiever
Could be a great course, but two issues hold it back:
Course isn't well marked AT ALL, it's very difficult to get an accurate distance, and there are no yardage books available. This is exacerbated by the fact there are a number of holes you can drive yourself into trouble on unless you know the course well - water is reachable off tees on a number of holes that you either can't see or wouldn't think are in range and a number of obstacles aren't readily identifiable from the tee box.
Staff is very underwhelming. Boring, curt, gruff. Never a smile, no eye contact. You feel like you're at a movie theater and they are all just there to get their shifts over with. You have to chase people down to get what you want too often. This place is way out in the middle of nowhere, and I pass 3 quality courses with much better service to play here It's just not worth doing.
Physically, it's a great course. Beautiful, well maintained (yardage markers notwithstanding), lots of different challenges to maneuver. It's not a long course, but it's got teeth and if you are in the wrong spot, you'll pay for it. But there are too many great courses in the area to deal with the dissappointments above.
Great day!
Great shape for this time of year. Rough may be a bit long for the average golfer. All in all great day to play!
slow play
no ranger on the course real slow play seemed like it would be a nice course if faster play
Royal American 2014-04-19
Starter was useless. Offered no information as to pin placements, cart rules, and proceeded to talk with his buddy during each one of our foresomes tee shots. Really makes me reconsider playing this course again. Get your staff on the same page, you are in a service industry and there a numerous other options available.
Prices are high for food and beverage.
11.00 Round of golf!!!!!!
For the price there is no better place to play in Columbus
Great Course
For being early in the season, this course was in great shape. The greens were fast and ran true. Like almost all other courses in Ohio at this time of the year, the course was moderately wet, but still playable. Gotta love the price provided by Golf Now. I will definitely be playing this course again. Can't wait to see it in full bloom.
Clean course, fun to play
Clean course, well maintained, definitely one of the better kept courses in the Columbus area. I would definitely recommend RAL to anyone looking for a fun round that will test you on a few occasions.
One of my favorites in central Ohio
I love playing this golf course. It's a fun challenge for my skill level and I really enjoy the course layout. Every time I've been there its been in great shape and I'm always sad when the round is over. The normal greens fees seem fair for how nice of a course it is, but if you can get a good deal it's a steal. Highly recommended.
Good Challenging course
The course is challenging when the wind blows. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition. You have to place your shots both off the tee and onto the green.
Appears maintenance has been stopped for weeks.
Pace of play was horrible due to a fivesome being allowed to play together. If the course was not aware, they should have been.
Plush fairways and large greens. Beautiful Fall Colors!
We played RAL the day after the storms came through Columbus. It was cart path only on every hole. The course was very wet so that meant no roll on your drives. We lost two balls on the other side of the cart path (rough) because the balls were under so many leaves and we had to walk so far from the cart path... Just couldn't find them... other than that, the course was in great condition.
Good track
The course was well kept except for numerous ball marks on the greens. Play was quick due to the course being empty...I played at 3:45pm in the cold.
Great day with my son
My son and i both love this course.challenging enough
For both of us.we played right at 3 hours 15 mins.
Had a great round, great bonding time,at a great course.
Definitely recommend to others.my son beat me week
Before, but dad got honors back this time..
RAL is a fun, challenging, well-maintained course.
My friend and I nearly had the course to ourselves when we golfed RAL on a weekday afternoon with scattered showers popping up intermittently. There had been showers earlier in the day but the course was still in great shape. Upon arriving and getting started the staff was very friendly and helpful. During the round all of the tee boxes seemed well kept. Really, everything about the course seemed to be well maintained. Something usually sticks out in my memory when something isn't right about a course, but even on a soggy day I can't think of anything that I thought was sloppy or untidy. As a novice-intermediate golfer I thought the course was fun and challenging without being intimidating. Whether you're like me and just want to go out and enjoy yourself, or you're looking for a challenge, I don't think anyone who plays this course (mid-week with no slow pokes in front of you or speed demons behind you) could leave being disappointed.
An excellent links course, with many layup holes
This course continues to be a fine public course. There are many forced carries and lay up holes, with numerous bunkers and lakes. For mid -October, the course remains in excellent condition. Well groomed fairways, with pretty thick rough.
Greens roll true and at normal speeds. The course had a lot of customers for a Tuesday afternoon, indicative of a fine course.
Great value
I live in California and you can't find golf course for price I paid with great shape it is in.
