Royal American Links Golf Club
About
Royal American Links Golf Club pays homage to the birthplace of golf, the seaside links of Scotland, an inspiration that is also reflected in the architecture of the clubhouse. The 18-hole course was created in the traditional link-style but with added features not typical of the classic design including water coming into play on nearly every hole. There are also large, deep bunkers protect the sloping greens, many of which are double-tiered. Royal American Links Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 12th. Its green is guarded by a not only a large rock wall but also water to the front and left. There is a large bunker to the left of the green that will swallow any errant shots but players with a sharp short game will be able to manage.

nice ,straightforward
nice course, nice people, medium fast greens, smooth, plays to yardage off nicely cared for tees.
Corse was in great condition
Course was very busy on Sunday but pace of play was great. Had a blast and would recommend this course to anyone!
Tough Rough
Nice course. Played 2 days after serious rain. Course very wet. Cart path only conditions.
Staff very freindly. This course has real rough. Keep it in the fairway. Would play again.
"Hairy"
Overall the course is in good condition but not spectacular. My only concern is the greens. They are super slow which it had rained the day before but they were super slow. I'm used to greens that roll in the 12-14 range. These greens were at best a 5. The course is also on the shorter side so scoring is fairly easy.
Decent enough course
Played this course after 24 hours of rain. Course held up pretty well, though several bunkers had standing water in them and were unplayable (you could play those that didn't). The creek that runs through the property was overflowing and swift, so that areas was damper (with reason) than the rest pf the course.
Minor quibbles: (1) Booked a twosome, but got paired up with an twosome with an earlier tee time. While i'm usually OK with this as it can lead to interesting conversations, I hadn't seen my buddy for awhile and hoped to talk with him more. (2) Get the rangers and superintendent dandelion pullers. There didn't seem to be a lot on the fairway, but my ball seemed to find all of them.
Course will likely pick up difficulty through the season as they let patches rough grow out for that inland links-style.
Better than ever!
Played Royal plenty of times over the years. Upon arriving for an early tee time the crew was still mowing greens. I was surprised to see a rolling machine as well, this made the greens flawless. The fairways and tees were just as nice. As the course has matured the rough has filled in well. Bunkers were consistent. This course will not overwhelm you with length but with water coming into play on 13/18 holes, you better hit it where you need to.
First timer
This was my first time playing Royal American and I had a good time. Good shots are rewarded and bad shots are tough to recover from. The rough is very thick and required an extra club most times.
Great condiition
Royal American was in terrific condition. Pace of play was good.
Only concern was no one working in the bar / restaurant at 9:00am and no lights on in restrooms as well but overall really nice golf experience.
Superb Condition
My brother and I played this course April 29th just before the leagues teed off at 5:15pm. We played 18 holes in 3 hours....awesome! The course was in superb shape! Staff was very accommodating! I'll definitely play here again if the course remains in the shape that it was when we played.
This course was simply amazing.
This is the first time I ever played this course, I'm trying to play a different course every time I go out this year and I have to say I will most likely be going back to this one and will be taking the rest of my foursome. I think they would enjoy it. I was paired up with three Asians and was a little nervous at first playing with people I did not know and plus the language barrier, but the round was allot of fun and I gained three new golfing buddies in the process. This is a must go to course for any level golfer. I scored a 87 that day. For some reason the harder and nicer the course the better I play.
This course has never disappointed me!
The flow of this course through the nature preserves is breathtaking and the course is in a top shape regardless of the time of the year that I play.
I played this course 5 times so far and this is the first review I've given. This is the quality course you can count on over and over again.
Very hard course
I thought the course was a very difficult course - with some very interesting and challenging tea shot (i.e water carries, etc.)...definitely would play again...
Great cold weather condition
Leaves are gone and the grass was very green. So it plays even more like a links course.
Great layout !
November and still in great shape. Played Royal yesterday and the conditions were quite nice. The leaves had all been cleared, the greens were in good shape. The staff was friendly, and as always the clubhiuse at Royal is top notch. For the money, Royal American is a great choice!
no major complaints
I did enjoy the course. Greens well kept. Staff was friendly but I only interacted with one person. Only complaint was that they took all the tee markers down in the back nine. (We think they were getting ready for a league) And some old guy kept driving around randomly playing holes. We even caught him playing 3 balls and a hole over.
But for the rate I got on the GolfNow, I would come back many times.
This course was moderately difficult
Played for $14.00 including cart. We were able to tee off right on our tee-time, no delays. Played in 3 hours and 10 minutes. Greens had been arreated about ten days before we played but had no trouble putting. Will play there again if weather holds out.
Royal American
First time playing royal American was a great success. Staff was friendly , course beautiful , as well we paired up with good company.
Great layout and course for the price
The course was in great condition other than the greens, which were definitely aerated recently and there was no mention of this when booking the tee time. It took us just over 5 hours to complete the round teeing off at 7:30am on a Sunday. Really fun course with unique holes. I would recommend this course if you get a good price on golfnow.
Links??? Super high approach shots needed.
They may as well concrete the greens and paint them green. They would play the same and save a ton of money mowing.
This is a great course this time of year.
We had a great time for the first time there. Some challenging holes with a lot of water hazards and nice sand bunkers to play out of.
