Meadows/Woodlands at Shaker Run Golf Club
About
Shaker Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. 18 holes were designed by Arthur Hills while the remaining nine came from the design team of Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. All of the nines have different characteristics but they share a rolling landscape that is unusual for a golf course in Ohio. The Meadows nine is considered to be the gentlest of the three nines since it doesn't have the trees and water that the other two do, but it still provides a good challenge. The golf course has a memorable finishing hole with out-of-bounds along the entire right side leading to the double-tiered green.

#9 Lakeside Photo submitted by stover3928 on 10/18/2012
Not what I've come to expect....
I have played Shaker Run 5-6 times over the last year & generally I would consider it one of my favorite courses. Their Lakeside 9 is BEAUTIFUL & the Woodlands 9 is challenging & offers some unique and fun holes.
When I booked my reservation, I did not realize I was booking for the Woodlands/Meadows courses. Once I realized I decided to just play anyway because I enjoy Shaker Run & have never played the Meadows course. The Woodlands was nice as usual however it was extremely soggy. We have had some rain recently but not enough to create this much mush on the course. The real disappointment however was with the Meadows 9. The bunkers were atrocious. They were filled with rocks, grass, and standing water. There wasn't a grain of soft sand on the course.
I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from playing the Lakeside or Woodlands courses but steer clear of the Meadows course. It was definitely not worth the $40 green fee.
Very good course
Woodlands was in Great shape. Meadows must have been under repair. None or very little sand in the traps. Pace of play was bad. Two foursomes in front spent more time looking for balls than playing golf.
Very nice course
The greens were quick and in generally great shape, except the first four-five holes of the initial nine, which had dead spots from what was likely some sort of disease in the fairways and greens. Even despite this, the greens on those holes still rolled true. Tee boxes on some holes were a bit spotty. Despite these minor blemishes, the course was fun. It challenges the player to be able to hit a lot of different shots. A few holes were a bit gimmicky and therefore difficult to play for the first time without a guide regarding where to hit it. All that said, a very enjoyable round, and I'd gladly pay $55 to play there again. Pace of play was about 4 hours on a Sunday morning at 8:45. Can't beat that for a public course.
Nice layout
Water on Lakeside course and woodsy and hills on the Woodside course - a good combination.
This course is in a downward spiral
This is not the shaker of old. Greens are beat up and the sand traps are unplayable. Definitely overpriced for the conditions.
Slow
Everything about our experience was positive except the pace of play, 4 hours, 45 minutes. The only time we saw a ranger was at the starting hole.
Great course, but very slow play
Played Lakeside/Woodlands. Course was in pretty good shape and the greens rolled really well. Unfortunately, the pace of play took a lot away from what could have been a great round. Played at 8am so expected better golfers and a normal pace at that time, but it took well over 5 hours to play 18 holes and we had backups at almost every tee and green.
Original 18 versus meadows
Shaker has 3 - 9 hole courses. The original 18 named (Lakeside and Woodlands) are great and would yield a higher review. This is the first time I played Meadows in a few years. This 9 was way below par. The bunkers were still bare. If you aren't going to add sand, make them grass bunkers. For the price this 9 is not worth it. If you come, play the original 18 and you will not be disappointed.
Huge improvements
I have played this course many times, and this was easily the best it has ever looked and played. In he past, the main issue was the sand traps. This time, 90% of the traps were playable. The only issues I saw were some swampy spots on the fairways and a few beat up greens. I am so impressed with how many improvements I am seeing here each time I go out. Keep up the good work! This course is almost ready for some kind of big event!
Worth the drive!
Drove up from NKY and had the course to ourselves for the most part. Golf course was in great shape. Always fun playing up here!
Course conditiobs
Over all the course conditions were good especially lake front , woodlands fairway conditions seemed to be under repair , if I play again will probably play meadows
Spiffy
pace of play was a little slow, but otherwise everything was good.....great layout.
Still a great course
You need to play this course a few times to learn where to hit the ball.
Poor Course Condition, Even Worse Customer Service
Wow, what a terrible experience. Booked for Lakeside and Woodlands but when I check-in, I'm informed that there are two outings going on so we're put on Meadows. Meadows is in TERRIBLE shape. The bunkers were not playable - not a single one. The greens were in bad shape as well. Fine, we finish 9 on Meadows and then we're told to tee-off on Lakeside. 2 holes into our 9 on Lakeside, the tell us that we need to go to Woodlands instead. There was no one in front of us but they forced us to switch 9s. We get to Woodlands and there is a 3 group backup on the first tee.
At this point, I've had enough. Go inside and they won't issue a refund. They offer a gift certificate for 18 holes but won't refund my credit card. Finally, they call the manager and I'm thinking this is going to get resolved. No. The manager will only offer a gift certificate. The worst part, at no time did anyone apologize.
The only thing worse the condition of the course was the customer service. They should be ashamed. Don't waste your money. Too many other great courses around Cincinnati/Dayton.
Tale of two sides
We played Lakeside to Meadows. Lakeside was in great shape and played very well. Our second side was Meadows. Meadows is in terrible shape. Many of the greens had places on them that you could not putt through. The bunkers were so bad that it was just pick your ball up. I will not play Meadows again. The superintendent should be embarrassed at the condition of the Meadows. Overall, the course layout was good. We played on a day that had rained earlier so we were the only people on the course.
