The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge - Grizzly Course
About
The Grizzly Course is a collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead. Since opening in 1972, this challenging layout has been host to numerous PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA events. The golf course features long, curvy fairways lined with towering trees and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout. The three final holes feature water hazards, which are also accompanied by a difficult array of bunkers. It offers a fair amount of difficult holes but overall the course is playable for a range of skill levels, which is why it is an appealing layout for tournaments. In addition to the two courses, the Golf Center also boasts an 11,000-square foot putting green and an Academy Course with four championship holes.
Also known as The City of Mason Golf Center - Grizzly Course.

stacked up on fairway! #Grizzly Photo submitted by todski26 on 11/12/2012
My favorite course
This is my favorite golf course...the ONLY downfall is how popular it is, but that isn’t a bad thing for the course! It’s always booked solid, but not overbooked...have to wait to tee off on almost every hole, but only becomes an issue when jerks behind hit into you. I already can’t wait until the next time I get to play the course, the layout is fantastic!
Great to be back on The Grizzly
Do love playing this course. It’s a public course so you expect it to be in a bit tougher shape. But we were happy with the condition overall. The rough was a factor, both hitting out of and finding your balls. But we just got back from Florida where there is not much rough.
Fun course and we will probably play here most of the time.
Griz was wet.
Lots of rain this past week and nite before we played. Cart path only was very necessary and understandable. Many sand bunkers had standing water. Greens average speed - maybe slower than normal due to rain last nite. Pro shop, starter and rangers all very welcoming.
Insisted strangers must share cart during Covid-19
They’re open during this Covid-19 pandemic however they insisted I ride with a stranger I didn’t know. Not sure how you can keep 6 feet apart while sharing a cart with someone outside your household. They make you pay two cart fees if you want you own cart. Definitely won’t be back while the pandemic is going on. Plenty of other courses in the area that allow one person per cart for the same green fee.
Sweet Home Alabama
1st impressions - parking lot was full & 3 groups waiting on first tee 10 min before our tee time .. we were 2 some plus 1 & seemed like we were waiting on every tee due to slow pace of play .. several areas of course & bunkers were not playable .. golf course is not walkable due to weird layout & long distance between green & next tee on many holes
Fun round
Grizzly was in great shape. The rough was cut long and the greens were firm and fast, which made for a challenging round!
Finally a nice day
Great round. They space their tee times every 15 minutes and everyone gets their own cart. Still cart path only. Hope that when it’s dry they let them off the path??? Even with cart path only we played in 3 1/2 hours. Overall conditions were very good. Will return.
Wet and windy
Besides Mother Nature the course was in pretty good shape. Putting green was still bumpy due to fall aeration but once on the course they were good. Nice overall layout.
Typical January golf
Greens still had pretty good size aeration holes and a lot of sand. Carts had to stay on the path even though the course was 95% dry. The course has a fun layout but we played in early January so it’s was a bit windy. Overall it’s a good course and will improve dramatically with better weather. I can’t complain when I’m playing golf in Cincinnati in January. It was great to get out.
Always nice and challenging from back tee.
With hot deal? Was excellent.
Slow play back 9
Overall experience was really good. We had a late afternoon tee time with one only group a hole in front of us until we hit the back 9. The back 9 was a struggle all but 1 tee box we had to wait close to 10 mins before teeing off. We also started seeing groups of golfers that were not on the front 9 at the time we were playing. We talked o the ranger about it and he just blew it off. For the last 2 holes we had 9 carts between the 2 holes.
