The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge - Grizzly Course
About
The Grizzly Course is a collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead. Since opening in 1972, this challenging layout has been host to numerous PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA events. The golf course features long, curvy fairways lined with towering trees and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout. The three final holes feature water hazards, which are also accompanied by a difficult array of bunkers. It offers a fair amount of difficult holes but overall the course is playable for a range of skill levels, which is why it is an appealing layout for tournaments. In addition to the two courses, the Golf Center also boasts an 11,000-square foot putting green and an Academy Course with four championship holes.
Also known as The City of Mason Golf Center - Grizzly Course.

stacked up on fairway! #Grizzly Photo submitted by todski26 on 11/12/2012
A once premier course but still great
The Grizzly used to be a premier course. LPGA and Seniors played here. It has changed over the years and is no longer a championship course but it is well maintained and challenging enough for the average golfer. Staff was friendly and the good in the clubhouse is above average. More than just hot dogs and chips.
Ball Marks everywhere
This course has really come around from two years ago,and a bargain for 25 $ on golf now.But people got fix your ball marks its like that most places but its really bad here!!
Good course
Just an average golf course. Greens and fairways in good shape. I do like that they started us off on a PRACTICE hole. So played 19 holes.
Terrible condition
For the money and what it used to be a few years ago this course has seen better days. Staff was very blunt and non friendly. At least in the clubhouse. Fairways were non existent, rough was bare dirt in a lot of places. Ground was so dry in some places the dirt had half inch cracks in it. Greens were bitted and not smooth. And one of the tee boxes had 2" long grass. Pretty much pathetic for a course of this caliber and the money they charge.
Horrible
Arrived on time for our tee time and waited on a backed up tee box for 15 minutes. Greens and fairways were dismal. One hole was shut down on starting 9 so we had to play two holes from a closed 9 that hasn't been taken care of. At turn we had a high school golf outing start right in front of us so we were forced to play the same 9 we previously played. Poor management, poor conditions, absolute waste of time. Never again.
Great Course
Glad I had a cart, lots of distance between the holes. Course was in decent shape, pace of play is awesome
Not the old Grizzly
I liked the course better before they chopped it up, but it still makes for a nice day of golf. Hey guys, fix your ball marks.
Greens and layout are still great
Fairways are not as good as in previous years. Pace of play are excellent.
great shape
The course was in great shape. The best I have ever seen it. But it was very busy and play was slow.
Old school feel
This course was built 40 some years ago. It is hosted LPGA events and senior events. From Jack Nicholas tease it only measures 6500+ yards. So I played the back tees and enjoyed every minute of it. Par threes were very challenging from there. Some par threes reached over 200 yards. The course over all shape is in great shape. A little confusing at the bag drop off and you practically have to give your left arm to sign out for cart.
I played very well even par through 17 holes and then there's number 18. 18 is a par five with water in front of the green if you want to reach the green in 2 you better get a blazing second shot. Otherwise it layup to 70 yards and a nice Sandwedge to the green.
Play the back tees it's well worth the experience. Get your moneys worth and have a lot of fun. Bunkers are everywhere. It's a typical Jack design. Wide fairways and very protective greens.
24 putts
Played grizzly first time in 25yrs yesterday at 7:20 am. Pace awesome, greens putted perfect 12 one putts from everywhere and Andy (golf professional) and support staff where very friendly. Most enjoyable round w son and weather was perfect as well.

A disappointment....
Spending a long weekend away from home I found the time to treat my son to a round of golf at The Grizzley. Having played several Nicklaus courses around the country, adding this to the list would be a nice adventure. I made the tee time through GolfNow and ventured to the course
Upon arrival, we were told that our rental clubs would be available at the Cart Barn so we went to retrieve them. A very grumpy man with no degree of customer service handed us two sets of mismatched clubs in a set of bags that were filthy and aged. When I inquired about different clubs I was told no options were available. Problem number one.
The course itself was fine, tee boxes and greens were well maintained, although the rough could have used a cutting. Problem 2 was the clubs provided were so bad, our games never got into a rythym. After mine holes of frustration we returned to the cart barn to inquire on other club options. We were instructed back to the Pro Shop where we were offered a Calloway option but by that time we were too frustrated to take the offer. On the positive side the pro did return our rental fee.
Lesson learned, ask about club rental option before making your tee time. It is the difference between a great or awful golf experience.
good course, slow pace
We made the turn in 2-1/4 hours. tOok 2-1/2 mroe hours to finish. sO pace was slow. sTaff very frreindly, course in oks hahape.
Great greens, slow pace
Course is in excellent condition, pace was very slow on the back nine (almost 3 hours)
Great
Great course for the value. Course and bunkers were in excellent conditions. Greens were great
good value for your money
Great service Gabby at the bar is always awesome.
Course in good shape, group of hackers in front of me crated for a longer than necessary day.
Fun to play.
Course was in good shape, greens rolled very good! They need a ranger on the course as pace of play was slow, the group in front of us was 2 holes behind. Course was a bit short from the blue tees, but still had some challenging holes.
Not what we expected
Houses extremely close to all holes. Fairways and greens were in pretty good condition. Staff in pro shop and grill not so friendly. Enjoyed the day, but expected a lot more.
Enjoyable golf course
I play this course several times a year and always enjoy it. The weekend pace of play however is usually slow so weekdays are recommended. I decided to play on the spur of the moment this Sunday and was able to get a tee time on GolfNow.com. I went on line at 11:45am and got a 1:12pm tee time for $27. I was hooked up with a twosome who paid $42 each. Not bad!
A solid choice.
Course is always in good condition. Although I support a good walk every now & then, I wish they would pick certain days & not allow walking due to the distance btw some of the holes. If you haven't played here yet, I highly recommend it.
