The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge - Grizzly Course
About
The Grizzly Course is a collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead. Since opening in 1972, this challenging layout has been host to numerous PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA events. The golf course features long, curvy fairways lined with towering trees and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout. The three final holes feature water hazards, which are also accompanied by a difficult array of bunkers. It offers a fair amount of difficult holes but overall the course is playable for a range of skill levels, which is why it is an appealing layout for tournaments. In addition to the two courses, the Golf Center also boasts an 11,000-square foot putting green and an Academy Course with four championship holes.
Also known as The City of Mason Golf Center - Grizzly Course.

stacked up on fairway! #Grizzly Photo submitted by todski26 on 11/12/2012
Fun and challenging
Very fun course to play. Both times I've played the course was in great shape. The rangers aren't very friendly, but you really only have to deal with them at the start of each 9, the folks in the club house were all very nice however. There are some long holes and blind shots, but that makes the course unique and fun.
Disappointing aspects
Greens had just been top dressed so putting was inconsistent. Course conditions generally OK, except for sand traps which were extremely thin. Several times hit clay base at bottom resulting in sculled shots. I expected more from a track with this rich history. Course was busy and could have used a ranger or two (none were seen on course during entire 18 hour round.). Lost of leaves on the course, and while to be expected in the fall, they could have done a better job blowing them off or sucking them up. Overall, it was disappointing in a number of aspects.
great time
the course was in great shape. pro shop people
were very polite and helpful. Great deal for the price.
Great course and great deal
We arrived 20 - 25 minutes ahead of our tee time and after checking in at the pro shop, we were good to go. The course was in great shape and the pace of play was really good. I would highly recommend this course. You better ride though, as there are long distances from the green to the next tee box in many instances.
Great value, especially when you can book for ~$30
LOTS of bunkers, most are in decent condition. Not terribly long though, white tees play ~5700, blue ~6000, black ~6300
Slow
Took 5 plus hours to play a round. Groups in front were not monitored by ineffective rangers and therefore slowed the whole course down.
Disappointing . . .
This was the first time I had played the Grizzly and I was VERY disappointed in the condition of the greens; and I mean ALL the greens. This was not a matter of a few unrepaired ball marks here and there, but rather greens that were for the most part "un-puttable" . . . Every green had numerous areas where it looked as though someone had dragged their spikes along the surface, resulting in ripped areas. Frankly, I would rather have putted on freshly aerated greens; yes, they were THAT bad.
The other thing that made this an unpleasant experience was the fact that one of the other two players they paired me with spent more time on his cell phone than actually playing golf. I wouldn't have cared if he had simply conducted his business quietly, but this guy wasn't just on his phone, he was on SPEAKER phone. As a result of constantly waiting for him to finish a particular call and step up to the tee box, our 18 holes took more than four and a half hours. To make matters worse, on nearly every hole he had a hissy fit about how badly he was playing. This guy was EASILY the rudest guy I have ever had the displeasure of playing with.
I realize this wasn't the fault of the proprietor, but it nonetheless had an impact on how little I enjoyed my first time playing this course.
Nice course
Greens and fringes were firm and had some rollout even on high shots. They rolled well and true. Fairways in good shape and rough is well maintained. Got stacked up on the back 9 so we slowed down. Not much consideration to let a 2some play through.
Great day, great course, great fun !
Thought the course was in fine shape . . . pace of play was more than acceptable (good idea to play when Sunday football games are taking place).
The cartpaths were recently blacktopped so were in pristine shape.
Wind was really blowing so some holes played really short and into the wind was a challenge (think about playing the white tees if the wind's up !)
Will definitely come back again!
Not what it used to be
Price was great. Staff was awesome! Course was okay. Nothing was standing out and one can tell the maintenance of the course have dropped with the price of green fee over the years. All was in okay to good condition other than some greens where putts where bouncing around a bit, not bad but a bit. We were paired with another twosome and it was slow going out there with groups on all holes, close to a 5 hour round. I'd play it again but it does no longer come with the quality you expect from a Nicklaus design championship course.
A day at the grizzly
Pace of play was very slow. Greens were beat up from ball marks, made it very difficult to putt. I fixed a lot more than my own.
Good course, a little beat up
Always enjoy the layout here. It's usually in good condition but it must be getting a lot of play because the greens and fairways were pretty beat up. Greens had pitch/ball marks everywhere.
Kings Island not as good enough for the attitude!
For the second consecutive time, we (2 of us) we were paired with strangers. As was the case the last time, one of the people we were paired with was a poor golfer. It is bad enough that the guys was hitting 4 times prior to the rest of us were able to hit our second shot, the rangers started hovering and giving us a hard time. Probably will not return, ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very well drained
Booked a tee time on golf now and it poured down before we played. We decided to play anyway and the course was wet obviously but drained very well and wasn't an issue at all. Weather ended up being nice and The Grizzly is one of my new favorite courses.
Fun Course in Good Condition for Late Season Play
First time playing here. Weather was on and off rain and sun. Course is fun with plenty of challenging holes and some nice par 3 to keep your score reasonable. Had a great time and will be back!
A once premier course but still great
The Grizzly used to be a premier course. LPGA and Seniors played here. It has changed over the years and is no longer a championship course but it is well maintained and challenging enough for the average golfer. Staff was friendly and the good in the clubhouse is above average. More than just hot dogs and chips.
Ball Marks everywhere
This course has really come around from two years ago,and a bargain for 25 $ on golf now.But people got fix your ball marks its like that most places but its really bad here!!
Good course
Just an average golf course. Greens and fairways in good shape. I do like that they started us off on a PRACTICE hole. So played 19 holes.
Terrible condition
For the money and what it used to be a few years ago this course has seen better days. Staff was very blunt and non friendly. At least in the clubhouse. Fairways were non existent, rough was bare dirt in a lot of places. Ground was so dry in some places the dirt had half inch cracks in it. Greens were bitted and not smooth. And one of the tee boxes had 2" long grass. Pretty much pathetic for a course of this caliber and the money they charge.
