good course
Played here for the first time. The greens had been recently aerated so they were bumpy and slow. This would be an easy course to walk as it is very flat and open. The indoor staff was very friendly but the starter seemed to have no personality at all. For northern Virginia, a $32 round of golf is a good value so it remains a busy course. I probably won't play again since I have lots of courses that are closer to my home but it is a solid test of your golf game.
soggy but fun course
Played in afternoon. Greens were very soft but still rolled nice. Ball marks were an issue but not so bad that they impacted putts.
Course is a bit tight in spots but greens are open in front so you can run shots on.
Pace was uneven but finished in 4 hrs; hit a bit of a pileup around 7th hole but after 10 it started flowing again.
Solid muni course that I'll play again soon.
Great Value
Friday afternoon with a great GolfNow rate ($31) made this an unbeatable way to start the weekend. Starter paired two signals with a pair to makeup a fun foursome. Pace was a little slow until about the third hole and then no more waiting for the rest of the round. Course was in great condition, with the greens rolling medium pace and smooth/true. Finish the round in just about four hours. Never did see the beverage cart/girl, good thing we were BYOB ready.
Great layout, terrible staff
So I am a local. I play brambleton maybe once a month. Today was my second time in 2 weeks playing the course. I love the layout and over all conditions of the track. Now the staff? That's another story. The week before the starter allowed a group of 3 walkers to tee off at our time when he knew we had already checked in 30 minutes prior. We were even sitting behind the three some when they decided to hit two tee shots twice. The rest of the course was wide open so we had asked the starter if we could start on 10 and he said no.
Today I decided to play again and we come to the 10th tee and are told the course I backed up. Which is not the case. We are rushed to tee off and then they have a two some start right behind us. Later we find out the two some is part of the league they have going on and were only rushing us so they could start there precious league. I'll tell you one thing, you don't rush paying customers when the course isn't even backed up. Not to mention I have a 7 handicap and play from the tips everywhere I go. I think my group would be the last group to ever back a course up. This place is simply poorly run. Looks more like a retirement home than a golf course.
Nice Course
Course was in great shape. Staff are friendly and helpful if needed.
Good value
Booked as a single and was able to play by myself. Caught up to some groups around the 6th hole and then it was a slow round from then on. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens all in good condition. Bunkers had some water in them but that was expected from the recent rainfall. Overall all great course conditions and definitely recommend.
Bunkers & Wild Life
Bunkers are in need of work after some heavy rain moved across the area the last few weeks. Also there are several water holes where geese have moved in and they just make a mess of fairways and greens. Now pleasant to play through goose droppings!!!
The course needs of have them removed!
Great course
This is a nice course. Staff is friendly. It is often very busy and pace of play can sometimes be rushed if you aren't really good, but overall one of my favorites!
Perfect for my ability level
I'm between beginner and intermediate and this course was great for me. Played from the Gold tees. Fairways were pretty wide with a couple of exceptions. Mature trees in just the right spots. Water on only 2 or 3 holes including a spectacular par 3. Greens and teeboxes were in great shape. Not sure if this is common but they slotted us with people we didn't know, but it turned out fine. Really great value in what is otherwise a very expensive area. Had lots of fun and will definitely come back.
Fairway Grass
Fairway grass is to long on some of the fairways and many of the bunkers had water in them. Pace of play was good on front 9 unfortunately on back 9 pace slowed down because of additional players playing just the back 9 holes.
Rude and untrained staff
The starters don't know how to pair groupings or use common sense and will send 3 singles off, put a single behind a foursome, send slow people off the back as people are making the turn. All of these issues create major gaps on the course and the rangers are too afraid to tell anyone to pick up the pace or drop 100 yards from the green. The problem is the volunteers that are there for free golf and in turn treat paying customers very poorly. I have several friends that play regularly, but refuse to play here based on the items above.
Good course and good management of it
Course was in good shape, course crew kept pace at an acceptable rate. Enjoyed it.
Good Course for the Money
Pretty good course. First time playing. Seemed like a lot of confusion from the time I walked in, till the time I left, between staff, tee sheets, and the course marshals. I chalk some of that up to the tee sheets electronic system being messed up. What I'm not chalking any of that up to is the poor condition of the rough outside the fairway. It was about 7-10 inches high. Now, I played plenty of golf, know plenty of greens keepers and people who worked on a course, and know the difference between playing a course that is meant to have thick rough, and playing a course where the maintenance people just didn't feel like cutting the grass. Maybe that's not exactly the case, but it sure felt like it with this course. Greens where in good shape which was nice. Outside the fairway, good luck finding your ball let alone hitting it.
My pace of play was 5.5 hrs for 18, waited on every hole. I will chalk that up the system being down, and I'm sure that's not easy to deal with, plus almost everyone walks the course...but man it was a terribly long day.
I would play this course again, and hopefully the rough grass will have been cut to more of what it should be, and not just overlooked. And, the condition of the greens is worth the price.
Pricey for that time of the year and the course wasn't groomed but that expected golfing in February
December Round
Played here on 12/22/16. Warmish day in Dec. feel like we stole one from the weatherman. Course was in good shape. Pace of play was better than average at 3:50. Could have better except some walking golfers thought they were getting paid to play.
Brambleton
Extremely slow pace of play. Multiple groups on each hole. Course was in pretty good condition, greens played a little slow, probably because it was wet from recent rain.
Good value
Greens were in good shape and challenging. Fairways and rough well maintained and layout has some good variety. Pace was good with an early tee time, however in the past the round can be very slow past 9 am. Definitely work to get out many groups in short window of time.....
Greens
We have always enjoyed the layout of Brambleton and jumped on the Golfnow deal. However, the greens were really bad - just been aerated - holes not really filled much with sand and incredibly slow and of course not true. Another day and condition, and the course is great to play.
Good course
Challenging and forgiving. One of my favorite courses to play in northern va. Pace of play is usually decent.
Thanks for playing Brambleton. Hope to see you again.
