Nothing special, but a good course for a good price
$35 for 18 holes and a cart is tough to argue with. Played here Sunday afternoon as twosome, had to wait a bit on the back nine, but still finished in just over 3 hours, tough to beat that pace. The course is in decent shape, nothing special, greens were full and true, maybe a little on the slow side, but it had rained earlier in the day. The greens will always be my main focus for a course as there is no rolling them on the green to get a fair lie. Fairways were the typical Bowling green fairways, decent shape, but a little spotty, this is to be expected with the hot weather we have had this year. The course is not too long, but the fairways are also not terribly wide and most have some slope to them, and the rough is thick and tough to play out of so club down where possible to keep it in the fairway as best you can. All in all for $35 I will continue to play it a few times a year, there are too many courses in the area for me to play most courses more than 3 times a year.
Really fun
This course will not wow you with extras and pristine conditions but they don't charge for it either. Its a really fun course with a peaceful setting and lots of strategy involved. Play it a few times and you will know where you can hit it. Putting greens are always in great shape (lil slow). Really enjoy my time playing here. Oh and only three hours for 18 holes which is really nice.
Thank you Sheath14! You WOW'd us with your review and we're glad you enjoyed your round!
Don't think it deserves the ratings it's been given.
I was quite happy to give this course a try, especially in light of the Hot Deal price on GolfNow ($10). It did not, however, live up to the reviews and ratings. The women's tee boxes needed work, both for grass coverage and some were sloped or turtle-backed. Greens were in very good shape. Fairways were nicely manicured. The rough, however, was very high and thick. A lot of clover and crabgrass. Seemed that even good tee shots that landed on the fairways ran to the rough. It's been unseasonably dry, or the creeks/streams could have been an issue. As it is, the beds were mostly dry. Staff was very friendly, let us go out early. Pro shop is very small. Didn't even check out the bar/grill, as we were passing through.
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to review our course, as we are always looking for golfer feedback as we look to continuously improve!
Good conditions, nice layout & staff, some poor etiquette
Very friendly staff and a nice course layout. Well maintained, although some teeing areas had hard ground. Great value for the price. I played solo and came upon a slower group of two players who invited me through. Later in the second nine I came upon a group of four struggling players who were much slower. They never invited me through and I followed them from Hole 13 to Hole 18 waiting, sometimes five minutes, on every shot. Hole 18 is a blind tee shot, so I drove to the crest of the hill to be sure the slow group in front of me was out of range, had to wait several minutes for them, then went back to the tee and hit my drive. Then, just after hitting my approach shot to the green, a ball sailed just a few feet over my head landing in front of me. A single player behind me had hit his drive without ever checking to see if it was clear. Very nearly struck me. So, yes, go play the course, but be prepared for slow play and perhaps a dangerous shot from behind you.
Much Improved
I've played this course for many years. My league used to play there for over 10 years until we moved across the road about 5 years ago. They have recently made some improvements to the course that are noticeable. Golf carts are new, carts parts have been widen and paved, and bunkers have been well maintained. Very enjoyable round.
Excellent value
Greens are excellent. The only thing I miss is a paved cart path; otherwise, this is a terrific little gem for the average player.
Worth a play
Had some unexpected free time and jumped on Golfnow to find a local course. It's a decent course overall IMO. I would compare it to your local Muni. Worth a play for the right price. Greens rolled nice. The fairways definitely needed to be cut.
I played the North course which according to a couple locals is the better of the two.
great 36 hole course
great 36 hole course would i be a member there heck yea great price
the greens where great.
I really like the course, otherwise I would not have gone back within two weeks. The only thing that bothered me was the course gps. Holes where marked wrong on my gos. Other than that , the course is great
I did take a friend to experience a quality couse such as bowling Green
He liked it too.
Great
Good challenging course for beginner and intermediate players. Soft greens one of the best public course in Shennandoah area.
Good Value
Although not the most challenging layout there are enough elevation changes and tricky putts to keep you interested. Rreasonally well maintained and value priced. Play both north and south courses for a fun day of golf!
Good value.
We played the North course for $13 a piece. The scenery is quite nice. Some of the holes are being renovated.
BG review
Course was in good shape overall. Greens pretty slow due to rainy conditions in the days prior to round.
Sand
They don't have any sand on the carts or on the par 3's. So you can't fix any of your divots
Great value
Played in about four hours for &13 plus fee thru Golf Now. Great deal! Course was in very good shape and pace of play was good.
Sunny day
First nice day in a while contributed to the slow pace of play. Course was in good shape and the staff are friendly and helpful. Course has some challenging holes over all a forgiving course, should you miss the fairway. Pin placements no so forgiving makes it interesting.
Great shape for February!
Bowling Green is in great shape for this time of year - some courses aren't this good even in the summer. Staff is friendly and helpful. Just a little extra care on and around the greens needed to give it a higher rating.
Winter golf at Bowling Green
Good course to walk especially in the winter so you can stay warm. Greens are in good shape despite the snow that was cleared off.
