The 14th - a nice short par 3 with a tricky green. Photo submitted by GolferJake78 on 03/01/2019

Great course
Challenging but playable course, it is in very good shape. Highly recommend if never played before. Has a very short set of tees for Seniors and the course is very walkable.
Decent course
Course was in decent shape considering amount of rain recently. Fairways and greens were fairly well maintained. Bunkers could use some work. Price still seems a little high for this level course.
Good Value for the area
I played this course with my father and needed something in good shape but under $80/round. This course had received decent reviews and the price was right so I picked Herndon.
The staff was very pleasant to deal with practice area was sufficient and well maintained. The starter kept the flow moving as well as possible and was very helpful. The course itself was in very good condition considering the wet summer we've had. The fairways were in great shape save 2. The rough was a reasonable length and tee boxes were acceptable, Where the course impressed was the condition of the greens, which happens to be the most important aspect of course conditions to me. Even though there were man many people golfing that day (which lead to a very slow round) he greens were not beat up and rolled true. There is enough variations in the greens and interesting hole placement to reward dart throwers or solid putters. The course is fairly short but throws in a few doglegs to keep bombers in check. This course will lend to lower score, but who doesn't enjoy that? Overall, I am glad to have taken my father there and we had a great time. (did I mention how good the food was?) I would definitely come back to this course especially considering the price is lower than surrounding courses in worse shape... Just be sure to bring some bug spray.
Amazing layout needing much needed TLC
We went in the golf shop, the gentleman was very cordial. He sent us right to the tee to check in and the starter got us right off. Problem is that the pace of play by the locals are extremely slow and tedious and really should learn to keep up with the group in front of them, repair ball marks, and rake the sand traps.
The course rough is very harsh and full of crab grass, the fairways have crabgrass growing on them and the greens need mowed.
The layout on the course is amazing and well place bunkering greens, and fairway contours are still effective today. It was such a shame that the conditions were deteriorated.
I'd recommend they use the money from the wealthy city of Herndon and reinvest into the course. They shoudl also consider having rangers that actually marshall the pace of play and not drive around looking for golf balls.
This place has amazing potential.
Expensive for the quality of course
$65/round is a lot for this course. Rough was not cut in a week. Greens however were decent. Sand was not turned in a while.
Need to place a ranger at hole #4 (Par 3) 15 minute back up as people spend too much time looking for balls in left trees.
This course is in great shape!
First time I've ever played this course, I'd never really even heard about it. The course is in excellent shape for a municiple course and offers a challenge for every level of golfer. The layout is pretty nice and I couldn't have asked for a better pace of play on a Monday afternoon. Great value! Great public course!
Got to keep it in the fairway at Herndon!
Keep it in the fairway and you'll be in fine shape. The greens are in excellent shape!
Great for a Muni!
This is a municipal course and thus gets lots of play. The conditions are great, considering. Not overly long, but challenging, especially from the back tees.
Nice course. Could use some repairs
Nice course. Fairways were in good condition. Tee boxes and areas around greens need better maintenance. Carts are a bit slow. I enjoyed our group's round.
Pleasure to play
This course was a pleasure to play. It was hard but fair making it perfect for the moderate to new golfer. The course was well maintained and the staff very helpful. The pace moved along very smoothly with credit given to the starter for spacing the groups out well. A must play for anyone who just wants to have fun.
Either fix the fairways or lower the green fees.
This course is a relatively relaxing 18 to play on a Sunday. However, in several big stretches the fairways are in very bad shape creating bad lies for good shots. If they can't keep live grass on the fairways, they need to lower the green fees and take their place as a sub-par hackers discount course.
Excellet Condition
Course was in excellent condition. I am a long hitter (290+) off the tee and the course was a bit short for me. Greens seemed to roll true and hold very well. Decent amount of bucker trouble out there but overall it is a course you can score on.
Great course but horrible staff
The starter did not seem like he knew what he was doing. My tee-time was for 1:45pm, I came in to check-in at the pro-shop for my tee-time at 1:15pm there was a guy ahead of me who had a group of 4 with a 2pm tee-time. I guess the guy at the pro-shop is also the starter because he told the group of 4 to go ahead and tee off if they are ready. I checked-in right after and asked if we could go ahead of them since we are a group of 2, since if we tee'd off behind them we would be pushing them the whole round anyways. The starter seemed unhappy with this request but he went ahead and told the group of 4 to wait for us. We immediately rushed out onto the tee box in less than 3 minutes. After both of us tee'd off the starter came up to us to say "if I would of known you 2 would be so slow I would of let the group of 4 hit first." Unbelievable. Well maintained course though, champion tee is a bit short but good course.
My Home Course For A Reason
When I moved to Reston a year ago, I thought Reston National would end up being my go-to home course. But once I played Herndon Centennial, I changed my mind in a heartbeat.
For the money, Herndon is one of the best-conditioned courses I've played. The grass is always lush, even in the heat of summer, and the fairways and greens always play very consistently. The only exception to this is that some holes don't drain as well as they could and as a result, you'll find some soggy spots if there's been rain in the past few days.
Otherwise, the course has a standard layout, nothing too crazy. No blind landing zones for your tee shots, just a nicely groomed, fair course. Pace can be a bit slow during busy times (there's a sizable gap between #3-4, #8-9, #10-11, and #15-16 due to a road and bike path crossing which can slow you up if you have walkers in front of you). Be wary of league days (usually Mondays or Fridays) that makes things slower.
Still, the course is a decent value and it's not one that will have you cursing at the end of your round. I got a one-year membership here last year and played the course about 25 times or so. Never got too boring.
This course is great, easy, but too many slow players, usually a 10 minutes delay on every t-box
is too crowed, very slow, no pace of play..........
Well maintained course from tee through green. Keep it out of the trees and you can score well!
Played on a Sun morning. Teed off right on time and never waited on the group in front. Fairways were in very good shape. Rough was reasonable. Bunkers were a bit firm but we had just had a few days of rain so I doubt they had time to go back through them. Would've been nice to have more drinking water on the course and a drink cart. Greens were smooth and not very fast. Played for $65 and would go back again.
Great place to play
Not every course can, and shouldn't, be Raspberry Falls. If there weren't moderately prices munis and public courses the sport would be more exclusionary than it already is. Herndon is terrific. It's a little short, so I like to play from the tips. The greens are challenging, with plenty of slope. Good practice area. As for clubhouse and restaurant, they have all that, but I'm about the golf. The quality of a clubhouse has no bearing on whether I like a course. In fact, i prefer a lousy clubhouse, because that keeps the poseurs away. The staff are folksy and laid back, not the phony nonsense you get at Reston. I prefer the Reston course, but Herndon has fewer houses and no one walking through with their dogs.
Has potential
Herndon Centennial is a decent layout over gently undulating terrain. The tees and fairways were in good condition, but there were hundreds of ball marks on the greens (perhaps too many hackers with little thought about etiquette playing there). Maintenance folks need to give some attention to peripheral areas where weeds (lots of poison ivy) and brush abound. No, I didn't get in it, but some that I played with did. With a little more attention to detail this could be a good looking course.
Nice Course--Good Value
Very nice round. Course is in excellent shape! We had a good round of golf, the pace of play was good and the course was in super sondition
