Good Course Gone Bad
First off - be careful when booking. There is a $40 cart fee that is buried in the tee times notes. The cart was filthy - looked like it was never washed. There is a $14 range ball fee. These balls are several seasons old and have also never been washed.
The course is probably the worst conditioned course I have ever played. If the tee boxes had grass, it was several inches tall. On one hole, the grass had overgrown the ladies tee markers.
Fairways hadn't been mowed in a while. On a couple of holes, my wife and I couldn't find our balls in the middle of the fairway. Grass was that tall.
The par 3 boxes were mostly sand - had to tap the sand from my spikes after hitting my tee shots, just like exiting a bunker.
Speaking of bunkers - there are at least a dozen bunkers that have been abandoned. The fairway bunkers that haven't been abandoned are full of weeds.
Can't say too much about the greens - they had just been aerated (not mentioned when booking) and were supper hairy and slow. Many greens had fresh sand top dressing - looked like they were trying to regrow dead spots. By the third hole we decided to play max 2 putt to keep our sanity.
Years ago this course was in my regular rotation - it's a fun challenging but fair layout. I hadn't been here in ten years or so and was shocked at the neglect. Too bad it has deteriorated to this extent. I don't see how they can possibly recover.
Sad decline.
This course has become an absolute dog track. Greens are unevenly moved, have holes in them, and are probably running a 4.
Fairways are unevenly cut with lawn clippings everywhere.
Tee boxes are unmowed with grass above players ankles.
Used to be a solid track now pretty much unplayable.
Aww! Reston
From tee boxes to fairways to rough, this place needs a lot of TLC. Wouldn’t recommend unless prices dropped significantly.
Fun but very beat up
I thought it was a scenic and enjoyable ride though the 18. I enjoyed the ungulating fairways and greens, playing strategically around the shorter holes and cutting off doglegs with the driver. Unfortunately that's all the flowers I can give. I found the layout decently fun but very unforgiving off the tee. Often times I found myself hitting great drives only to be punished because I'm under branches overhanging the blind spot of the fairway I just hit into! The main thing however was the overall course condition which is why I'm writing this review. Simply put, the fairways and greens are in terrible shape. The front 9 greens speed differs dramatically from the back. I'm very surprised at the price this course charges to be completely honest. Go for a good hit and fun but forget about serious scoring because the fairways and greens won't allow you to do so.
Bad conditions but cheaper rate
Finally, a North Virginia course that cut their rates due to the condition of the course. Others should follow suit, Given the reduction, the course wasn’t too bad. Greens had challenges but many of the fairways were okay.
Don’t play at this course. You will be very disappointed. Kemper sports has ran this golf course into the ground along with the owners. Go play neighboring golf courses.
Worth for the price
Paid $60 bucks on a weekend morning. That includes the cart, hotdog and tee time. No Marshall helping out with pace of play. We got stuck behind a slow group. Most greens are ok one was great and one was completely messed up. I heard they lowered the price recently so again worth it for the price.
They have completely let it go
Played here several times over the last 2 years and they have completely let it go at this point. The greens were 75% dirt and the conditions were horrible like they have given up.
Shabby
My son and I played for first time in 5 years and were stunned by the state of the course. A third of the greens were a mess, the rough hadn’t been mowed or tended. Lost balls just off the fairway. Cart paths in disrepair. Sad. And they charged us $20 per seat in the cart! What is that? Felt sad and cheap.
Terrible grass
This course doesn't do a good job taking care the grasses.this whole golf course act like they are going out of business because they have no passion to take care of grasses.
dont play this course
you can't call this a golf course since its obvious they dont spend a single penny on ujpkeep
bunkers were overgrown with weeds fairways overgrown with weeds
tee boxes grass non existent
ghreens were packed and dried mud
the absolute worst course conditions i have ever palyed in 35 years
Don’t waste your money
For what you pay this course is not worth it. Black spots on the green and you’d think you’re in the rough when you’re in the fairway. Terrible conditions. Not worth.
What a letdown.
I’ve played this course many times over the years and it’s always been a decent course with moderate value and a great location. This was the first time I’ve played here since last year. I wish I’d read reviews before booking this round, which I pre-paid for as a “Hot-Deal”on GolfNow. The course is in horrendous condition. Tee boxes are terrible to nonexistent. Greens are some of the worst I’ve seen. Fairways are ok, but not great. The 10th hole was closed “due to conditions” according to our carts’ screens. But it appeared to be in the same condition as every other hole on the course. We were not told that it was closed prior to teeing off. The rumor is that the course was sold and the new owner wants to close it down and develop the land. That would make sense as it appears that there is little to no money being put back into this course to keep it playable. I’m sorry to say that this was most likely my last round at Reston.
Fair
Golf camp
I received an email from the course before I played telling me that the course was in poor condition. That did not deter me from playing. However, having golf camp kids on the course skipping around on really irritated me. I don’t know why they thought that bringing a group of kids to play around me to scatter on the fairway was a good idea. I don’t plan to play there again.
