Beautiful course, course in lousy shape
For a public course, Reston is gorgeous. The staff are professional and attentive. The layout of the course is great. However, the greens had just been punched and were virtually unplayable. There was no mention of this when booking the course, nor when we checked it. They were in the worst condition of any greens I’ve ever played. No excuse for not telling people or for not offering a discount. The balls bounced all over the place, no way to read the greens...just terrible.
Swampy aerated mess
This place is garbage. The pace is weak. They failed to mention that they’d recently aerated. It rained last night and the course doesn’t drain very well. It was a mess.
The staff are great though. Don’t go near it for a month if putting is important to you. It should be
Reaton National
Greens just aerated; should have offered a bigger discount
Reston was a favorite
Although it’s April and greens were freshly aerated, I think the course needs work. Layout is great! But I personally think the green fees are too expensive for this course.
Under construction
Even paying a discounted fee did not make this course playable. The tee boxes were either barren dirt or beaten to a pulp. The greens had been recently aerated and they had been over laid with sand making them bumpy and unplayable. I have played this course in the past and am sorry to say I may not be back at least not this year. If they’re going to do major repair work they should shut it down for a while.
Aeration alert. Horrible
I love this course, but it was poor timing. Greens were punched with large holes and sand completely covering Greens, putting was a waist of time. Then had to play front nine twice because they were in the process of punching the back nine. I would give it at least 3 weeks or more.
Pace of Play
The course very nice although pricing is at the higher end for what it is.
The greens had just be aerated so that was tough, but it happens.
The 3 some in front of us was terrible and were drinking heavily from a cooler they bought. They were very slow and inconsiderate.
The ranger passed several times and did nothing. We waited on every tee.
The group behind us hit into us twice (accidental) because they assumed we must be ahead of them.
Some simple oversight by the staff would have been helpful.
Not worth the high greens fee
Course is average , fees to high. No sliding scale of greens fee as day gets older as every course does in US. Management decided it was too complicated to have more that one price for greens fee. That's funny since every other course in the area has figured this out. Most places have a reduced fee to play after 4 pm since you may not get in 18, not here. Slow play , no cart service , tee boxes choppy. Sand traps horrible . no sand in them.
Now they want to charge an extra $400 if you join as a member if you want range balls. This was always included before. No value here, golf customers not appreciated. No incentives for repeat golfers who want to play more than once a week but can't afford full membership. Do not play here!
Love the course but...
Conditions need to be better for the price. This is my favorite course in the area and I hope they can improve the greens and fairways.
Slow play
We had to call the Club House twice because there was a foursome group playing extremely slow.
Pin placements were in brutal places on nearly every green. Made no sense for green conditions or pace of play.
