The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
About
Hollows Golf Club boasts three unique nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. Conveniently, the greens fees are applicable all day, which gives you the opportunity to try out all three. The nines: Cottage, Lake, and Road, are varied enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. The Lake/Cottage combination features the most water of the three golf courses. The Lake nine wraps around a massive lake, the centerpiece of the 27-hole course. There are also a few small ponds that come into play on the front nine. The Cottage nine only has water on the third hole but this tough par 3 leaves a lasting impression. It is the Cottage's signature hole that not only features water but also an 8-foot deep bunker on the left.

Great time played cottage and road courses greens and fairways in good shape the t-boxes need some work. Will definitely be returning for another round, hopefully able to play lake course
Nice course for the price
Solid course for a reasonable price. It's very well maintained aside from some of the tee boxes. The greens were all in amazing shape which made putting (usually the worst part of my game) very enjoyable. Varied hole designs so playing never got stale. Tight fairways on a lot of the holes made it a moderately difficult course. Only complaints are that they don't have a ranger (pace of play was very slow on my back nine due to one foursome screwing around), and that the carts are extremely loud.
Great Course for the $; HUGE improvements
I have played The Hollows since it first opened. After Tommy Pollard, the original owner and architect- a local suburb HS player who crafted this course - passed away from a severe heart attack at a young age - the course was sold by gamily to it’s present owners (young and ambitious).... they have spent a ton of money improving the fairways and greens and are constantly putting money back into the course. It is in the best condition and all I can say is Pollard would be so proud. It is a very fun course... not difficult yet a very fun course that does have a small handful of difficult holes but if you play smart can shoot a good score. A friendly course, friendly staff - not “in-your-face” friendly, just an”country-friendly” for those that get that. Each year it gets better, the owners put their profits back into the course and thrilled by their outlook and long term direction. It’s a FUN course - and a family friendly course. A gem for it’s appeal and focus. Definitely a value the money and worth the drive..... only a 1/2 hr from center of center city of Richmond.
Great experience
This was my first round of golf since a recent heart attack. I wanted to play a familiar course as I’ve been here many times before. My playing partner and I played Road/Lake and it sure felt great being out! The course was in good shape except for one fairway under repair. The greens ran true and were perfect. The staff was very pleasant too. I highly recommend.
Great layout
Played the Saturday (before Easter Sunday) after 15 tornadoes touched down in VA and the course was still in great shape. 90 degree rule and the greens were rough but the course played fair. Going back very soon and when my friends want to play I always make it their first time at The Hollows. Thank you to my old boss from Valentine Electrical, Dennis B, for introducing me to the enigma that is The Hollows! -JD Scott-
Improved
The course is in great shape compared to 6 weeks ago. The greens are really decent, the fairways are we good and we caught pass are much better than they were when I played a few weeks back. Are they friendly staff to a course in decent shape and you have a great bargain on GolfNow.
Incredible golf course for the money!!
The Hollows is an incredible golf course, with 3 very straight forward 9 hole courses. Each one has it's own unique character. You can play 9 or 18, or if you really feel up to it, you can continue on and play the whole entire 27 holes!
You will use every single club in your bag. I know it sounds strange, but, you'll hit a crisp 7-iron one time, and then next time, you'll have to drop down to a 6-iron because either the winds changed, the flagstick changed, or maybe even the "Golf Gods" are making it play a little tougher! Ha ha ha...
Great staff, very friendly people, and just an overall favorite course to play! In closing, I hope you can see the very excited video that I shot today (4/22/19) from Lake #6, where I did an amazing "bump 'n run" with a 9-iron from roughly 20 yards away, and holed it out for a Birdie!
Great Day
The weather warmed up nicely and the course is getting into shape. Greens were just aerated so slow , sandy and bumpy. Should be ready in a couple of weeks .
Good For the Money
It’s winter so fairways were thin, greens were rolling good for the time of year. For the price the golf course was a good deal.
Wet
Rain and snow has taken it's toll on the road course. Even the cart paths are a solid mud bog. The greens and fairways are 85% but they have lost the ruffs and paths. They'll get it back in spring but I would not recommend the course now.
greens rough
even being the off season greens resembled tee box patches missing, rough worse than being ariiated fairways were in great condition and course over all qas great but had tee times backed up ontop of eachother and wouldn't move people to diffrent starting holes . overall a decent experience but qas constantly waiting to take a shot could get no flow to round
Down hill
Hardly any yardage markers; not hard to put a stake in the ground. Cart paths are like the Oregon trail. Tarps on some of the lake greens. Recently took the porta Johns off the course; might be using the savings to buy some gravel.
P.S. The men’s association think they own the place
Could be better
The course itself looked pretty nice but it was not well marked and even starting tees were not well marked. Several holes had rough areas or were damaged . Pace of play was slow.
What Hurricane
Course was wet of course after a few inches of rain but Cottage was mostly still 90 degree with the cart. Greens in good shape and true , but as more rain fell it got a bit tricky.Always a fast round here and able to practice some shots .
Nice course
We had a great weather day. The course is in pretty good shape. Some greens had a few rough spots but they were all very playable. Tees some good some not so good. They were very thin on grass. Fairways were very nice. Overall the layout is fair and forgiving. Not real long from the white tees with lots of 300-350 yard par 4's. Staff was friendly and helpful. We will return.
Great Day as usual
Love that I can play quickly. Sometimes run into some slow players but they will let you play through or you can play out in front.
Greens were wet from all the rain plus watering, so soft landing.
Staff and other players are always friendly!
