Bent Tree Golf Club
About
The lush, rolling terrain occupied by Bent Tree Golf Club was sculpted into one of the most popular championship golf courses in central Ohio. Dennis Griffiths, the course's architect, seamlessly blended the design with the natural features of the landscape. The abundant natural water hazards come into play on half the holes and Griffiths strategically incorporated several well placed bunkers. The terrain's gentle undulations provide some interesting slope in the greens that place a priority on accuracy. Bent Tree Golf Club's par-4 eighth hole is especially demanding. It may be short at only 334 yards but it is surrounded by bunkers on all sides. It is followed by another tricky par 4 that requires both distance and accuracy in order to navigate the tree-lined fairway uphill to an undulating green faced with bunkers to the front and back.

On course cart girl and outdoor bartender!
Special thanks to Emily for the outstanding Bloody Mary's on the course from the "Bloody Mary Machine" I've got to have one! Also, thanks to Jamie W. for making our post round beverages enjoyable. Very outgoing and friendly staff. Will be going back.
Great Staff. Poor course conditions.
Staff was super friendly. I have played this course in the past and remember it being good. The course now is in terrible condition. The tee boxes are all torn up and the fairways are hit or miss with grass. Because I got a great deal on Golfnow, I wasn't too upset. If I would have paid full price, I wouldn't have been too happy.
Awesome Staff
Played in the Columbus Desi Golf Outing and it was run exceptionally well by the golf staff. The bev cart girl Emily was awesome. She was very attentive to our needs on the course. Always was there at the right time to provide us beverages. The bartender Jaime W was awesome as well. She had great customer service as we had a long day on the course. She was always there with our next round before we finished our current ones. What a great experience yesterday.
Need a Ranger
Needed a ranger to keep things moving. Our group of 3 were on the heels of 3 straight twosomes. Why 2 groups weren't paired up is beyond me. Wonderful bunkers and greens. Fairways had some dead areas but overall in nice shape.
Sad Shape
Fairways were burnt out and the tee boxes torn up.
What happened?
I've played Bent Tree dozens of time over the past two decades and this is by far the worst shape it's been in. The tees were really bad. Large patches of no grass. Many fairways were burnt out or had no grass at all. The greens weren't too bad but had a ton of unfixed ball marks. Pace of play was quite slow and never saw a ranger. Several tees had a two group back up. Also, never saw a beverage cart until the back nine! The staff was great, friendly and helpful, but this once nice track is in need of some help!
Booking a tee time obviously doesn't matter
Booked a tee time, was there extra early, and then they let a couple that just showed up go off in front of us, which pushed our tee time back, and the couple slowed down our foursome, to the point we had to wait on every shot, which backed up everyone behind us. Not a fan of letting walk ups just go off at any time. The worst part was it was a Tuesday, not even a weekend round. The tee boxes were in terrible shape, few bunkers with standing water(to be expected after the storm that went thru Monday afternoon), greens were very soft, fairways were good.
Disappointment
Bent Tree has always been a highly rated course for years in central Ohio. I hadn't played in 8-10 years until yesterday. I'm okay with the rather dry conditions to conserve water which I think is an aim of the course management. That unfortunately comes at the expense of horribly maintained tees which were overly dry and badly chewed up. A nice layout but it's lost its allure. Staff was great and accommodating.
4 groups on tee box, left at after 13 hole
5 hours and only made it to 14, only saw cart girl once in 5 hours. Staff did not offer free 9 to come back, kid was no help. 4 and 5 groups deep on some holes. Saw ranger once after 4 hours and he could do nothing.
Confused by the good reviews
I know experience varies a lot based on time of year and luck, but this course is very average to mediocre in all respects. Greens were ball marked up the worst of any course I've played this year (8 courses so far). Very sad. Parts of the course were burnt out despite a vey wet season. Ponds were stagnant and breeding Mosquitos. All Desperately in need of a fountain, pump, or other airation device.
The most irritating aspect was pace of play. I was paired with 3 gentlemen and the first nine, (back nine) went smoothly. We waited breifly on the par threes. Common. The second nine however got strangely slow. First two holes not bad, then slowed to a crawl. Waiting significantly on every shot. To the point of getting out the phone and checking email and sending texts, and practicing pitch shots in the rough. They must have slid some people out a couple groups in front of us to have this dramatic a slow down. Too far for me to drive, too irritating a day, and too expensive for me to go back. A one time play unless someone I know wants to play it.
One great course
This is the third time we've played here and it's been in great shape every time. We get to this area every once in a while, but we'll be sure to play again. Course was slightly wet due to the weather and not much roll. The greens were in great shape and on the fast side. You will definitely have to place tee ball as there are many fairway bunkers. A good challenging course.
Great course at a great rate
It never ceases to amaze me at the overall condition of Bent Tree Golf Club. This has been a tough season weather-wise for the Columbus area, but The New Era courses (Bent Tree) continue to perform at a high level. The course is a great layout, spotted with fairway and green side bunkers protecting the true rolling greens.
Great track and an extremely fair rate!
Great shape. Don't get the chicken salad
Play from the tips for a real challenge or u are just hitting wedges in all day...
Still a good course.
I hadn't played here for over 20 years, but it's still a challenge. The course was in good condition, despite the wet season, and the staff were all friendly. I'm glad I came back, and wouldn't hesitate to play here again.
Challenging and fair
Great course for all skill levels.
Hard to see landscape features around tee boxes and paths deteriorating though.
Pace of play was a little slow even for a Saturday. Ranger was responsive though and attempted to correct.
Course still on my top ten in central Ohio
Tainted by weather
Great track but Ohio weather has torn it up. I will be back late summer to give it a fair shake.
Good couse
Course it was good to have been clean and maintenance. In addition, staff is also good, I was able to comfortably play.
Garbage for the price
I paid 28 dollars for "unlimited golf". 3.5 hours and 9 holes later I'm thinking they oversold what they can actually handle on their course. I checked with the staff and they had no solution, the people that manage this course just have no idea what they're doing but are happy to charge a premium price.
The course itself is average at best. Sand traps were not maintained, trampled in fact with no raking afterwards. The fairway does not drain well at all after a rain, you may as well be hitting off a wet sponge in the fairway. Divots galore. Thistle weed everywhere. Beer is 20 dollars for a 6 pack (a 400% price hike).
This place is a ripoff. Why golf here and pay so much with so many better, less expensive courses in the area? I will not return.
Great Golf Course
The greens are excellent!!!
Played in late June but the rain caught us on the front 9 so we had to quit. I'll be back!!!
Average, enjoyable course
This would have been a much better rating had the pace of play not been such an issue. As with so many courses these days, course management is SO lacking, along with the etiquette expectations. There was a foursome that was EXTREMELY slow...way beyond most of my slow experiences. They would allow any of the singles or doubles to play through and there wasn't players in front of them for 3 holes!!
Otherwise, the greens and tee boxes were in good shape. Fairways were decent. Lots of nice shade and the course is attractive.
