Bent Tree Golf Club
About
The lush, rolling terrain occupied by Bent Tree Golf Club was sculpted into one of the most popular championship golf courses in central Ohio. Dennis Griffiths, the course's architect, seamlessly blended the design with the natural features of the landscape. The abundant natural water hazards come into play on half the holes and Griffiths strategically incorporated several well placed bunkers. The terrain's gentle undulations provide some interesting slope in the greens that place a priority on accuracy. Bent Tree Golf Club's par-4 eighth hole is especially demanding. It may be short at only 334 yards but it is surrounded by bunkers on all sides. It is followed by another tricky par 4 that requires both distance and accuracy in order to navigate the tree-lined fairway uphill to an undulating green faced with bunkers to the front and back.

Good course; gotta earn every shot!
This was my first time playing Bent Tree and overall I really liked the course. It was really well taken care of and very challenging. The staff is very friendly, although there wasn't a starter and three groups were waiting to get going with no direction. The carts were in good shape. Pace of play was slow however once we passed a foursome that was slow we played a lot quicker. It is a tad expensive with fees being around $45 for 18 and a cart. There are cheaper courses of the same caliber out there. However, if you want a challenge and want to play somewhere nice check it out!
little wet
Considering the amount of rain that has fallen the course was a little wet but playable. Nice staff would highly recommend. Jrc
Beating the thunder
Hadn't played this course since 1991. It was better than I remembered,, and I remembered it as nice. Puts a premium on drive placement, but rewards smart shots, especially on the stairstep No.5. Greens weren't superfast but they rolled quite true. As one person in my party pointed out, rough was mown at just the right height where you could still see top of your ball, which hastens play (take heed other courses seeking faster play). Overall great time, though we were hustling to beat oncoming storm.
boom boxes on the course
This is a great course. One of the premier courses in Columbus. However, I called the club house because of two groups were playing boom boxes. One group parked by the greens, layer in the sand trap drinking beer watching each other hit out of the trap. The club response was music is O.K. if it does not bother anyone. They would sent someone out. This may ruin this course. However, I have never experienced this before. Maybe an isolated situation. But they should check it.
An enjoyable experience
Course conditions were great with the exception of many of the bunkers were near unplayable due to the excessive rains in the area. Much of the sand is washed out of the bunkers so taking a free drop in the bunker after raking up an area in the bunker is how we played it. This did not distract from the excellent conditions of the greens and fairways. "Go Play"!
Pleasantly surprised
I played this course last summer and was not impressed. this time was a much different story. The course and greens were in great shape with the recent rain. From the Championship tees it is just over 6500 yards so I played those. It's a good course at that distance. I booked online and the course gave me an additional discount since my son is only 12. Beer selection at the turn is excellent (didn't partake since my son was with me :-) Would go back again. Only drawback is the road noise since 7-8 holes finish or begin near Route 36. Course was very open when we played. Could go at our own pace, no one pushing. A good day!
Reasons to NOT play Bent Tree
Ive played this course hundreds of times, I like the layout, and its a short drive from the my home and work. I have recently put my foot down, heres why:
1. Ranger/Starter: This older guy doing starter/ranger duties on weekdays (I told him its impossible to be both) has no idea what hes doing. When a starter is clueless, pace suffers.
2. If it rained in the last 48 hours you dont want to play here, 72 hours is ok but there will likely be dead fish on numerous fairways and you'll need 3-5 pairs of socks.
3. If you are paying anywhere near full price, youre getting ripped off. $25-$30 is a fair price to ride @Bent Tree. Northstar golf club is 2 minutes away, always more open then Bent Tree, and is normally around $40 to ride, do that if Bent Tree is charging their reficulous normal rates.
4. Traveling leagues: If you managed to snag a good deal, theres a good chance you'll show up to tour busses in the parking lots, tee off 10, and play in 5.5-6 hours, enjoy!
5. Practice: they have a range. But it runs parallel to 1 fairway, so have fun picking which ball on 1 fairway is yours since they evidently pick range balls once a day. Also they have a putting green next to 1 tee, usually more golfers than holes, and it rolls differently than all 18 greens, soooo yeah.
6. Fluffy, wet. Hard as rock. Ant/bee infested. 50/50 sand to weed ratio. These descriptors are all true of Bent Tree's sand traps and bunkers.
7. My favorite: yardage markers are wrong. After hitting the same club into the hazard on 5 tee for weeks, I did my own measuring, every single marker on the course is off by 5-20 yards, hilarious. Why even have them?
Having said all of this. I still like Bent Tree, I don 't know why. I guess I 'm just comfortable with the shennanigans at this point. But I will never book before getting there, golf now is there way of overbooking, if you show up and the lot is half full, run away!!
Course has good variety of trees, water, sand, etc
Pro shop staff was not very friendly, rest were fine. Liked the challenges of the course.
Great course
We'll worth what we paid to play thru golfnow. The course was pretty wet so there was very little roll. But it's a very nice course!
The course is one to play
Add this one to your choice of quality golf courses in the Columbus and surrounding areas
Consistently good course
Bent Tree is dependable to be in good shape. Course layout is easy for the most part with a few difficult holes thrown in. It is not demanding on distance and is a good price on twilight.
Sand, Sand, Sand
There is a lot of sand @ Bent Tree and I found my share.
Keep it in the short grass
This is a very nice country venue that is maintained in decent shape. Most of the holes are not exceptionally long, but if you are not in the fairway the ball tend to sit down making par an unlikely outcome.
Because of the ruff, many bunkers (some of which are very deep), and numerous water hazards, the course is deceptively difficult.
I recommend staying out of those bunkers. The sand is shallow and it's that nasty course river sand which means if you are to far behind the ball you will bounce up and blade it. After doing that you are likely to avoid hitting behind the ball and then catch it thin, which is not good either.
In conclusion - use the 3 or 5 wood off the tee. Keep in the fairway and take an extra club for water and bunker avoidance.
Definitely Worth Playing
This is a great course in the Columbus area where driving accuracy is preferred over distance. Greens were in great shape for being early in the season and the rough was tall and thick but very well kept. It was definitely a penalty for not being in the fairway off the tee and around the greens. Overall great round and will definitely repeat.
Excellent Course
Nice course that was kept in great condition. Even with a ton of rain the night before and beginning of the round the greens stayed fast. Challenging pin placements and easy to end up in a bunker. Overall great course with a great staff
Excellence
First time playing this course and it was fantastic. PLayed with a beginner and he kept up fine. Highly recomended
Decent round
Overall it was a decent play and pretty green. The fairways were in great shape but the rough seemed a little longer than usual. The greens were hit and miss regarding condition. Some were great, others needed a lot of help. Every time I play this course the round takes longer than it should. I pre 8am round with three twosome's ahead of us (and we were only a twosome) took over 4.5 hours. Seems to be par for this course. If you have the time, it's a good play.
challenging and scenic
Staff and fellow golfers were great. Played alone in well under 3 hours cart path only.
Interesting terrain
For first week of the season, course was in good shape. Short drive from northern suburbs of Columbus.
Beautiful day. Would have been more pleasurable were it not for the exceptionally slow twosome up ahead, who bogged down the whole course. Need to get the ranger out there!
Best bang for my buck I've ever played
The staff was extremely friendly. Awesome practice facilities. The course layout was fun, yet challenging. The greens were in great condition. I'll be coming here all summer.
