Royal American Links Golf Club

About
Royal American Links Golf Club pays homage to the birthplace of golf, the seaside links of Scotland, an inspiration that is also reflected in the architecture of the clubhouse. The 18-hole course was created in the traditional link-style but with added features not typical of the classic design including water coming into play on nearly every hole. There are also large, deep bunkers protect the sloping greens, many of which are double-tiered. Royal American Links Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 12th. Its green is guarded by a not only a large rock wall but also water to the front and left. There is a large bunker to the left of the green that will swallow any errant shots but players with a sharp short game will be able to manage.

Horrible
The course is in horrible shape. There is so much water in some areas it's almost unplayable. Im not sure if they have major drainage issues or bad staff or what. (Also of note, I worked in golf course maintenance for a couple yrs so l do have a mild background of knowledge) Many greens are far more sand than grass, literally like putting on a beach with lumps of sand and bumps everywhere so absolutely no consistency from one to the next. Numerous bunkers are essentially water hazards as they are almost calf deep in water, drains in fairways without any type of grate or covering or even being marked on a few so you lose a ball absolutely in the fairway and everyone in your party just watches it disappear and can't figure out where it went until you see said drain exactly where your ball was (ask me how | know) and all this is in the middle of a huge drought. The course would and could be nice, and may be with work, but l'd def go elsewhere right now.

Beautiful day, course in good shape, greens consistent, but play was very slow.
Course continues to decline
Used to play RA all the time 20 years ago when it was in good shape but every time I go back the course maintenance and conditions get worse. I probably fixed 15 ball marks on every green and had to move 1/2 of my putts so I wasn’t putting over bald spots. This goes for tee boxes, fairways and greens. For the rate, much better off going elsewhere.
This course has really fallen off.
This course continues to go downhill. Outside of a great staff, there isn’t much to get excited about. Played a round in a little over 4.5 hours. Pace of play never improved. Tee boxes are shot. 9th and 18 greens are incredibly well manicured, but that’s it. Would not recommend.
This course has seen better days.
Following a girls high school practice round was excruciatingly slow. They were not replacing their divots, which along with other issues lent itself to dogtrack conditions. This used to be a top notch course, now it's as rough as a wilderness trail. The tee boxes were terrible, un-kept, sometimes the grass was almost as high as the rough. So disappointed, considering what the course used to be like.
Improving
Overall, fairways are in good shape, greens vary by hole some are spotty. 10 minutes between tee times helps the pace of play..
Love the layout of this course
Love playing this course. A few greens are struggling but the course is getting better every day.
Royal American
Over the years the golf course has been not very good. It is very nice to see the course conditions have improved. They have a couple problem greens but overall it is improving. Nice to see, a good layout.
Improving but greens are still a little rough
Definitely getting better but greens have some rough patches and bunkers are mostly not in good shape
Not what it once was, but not bad.
Coming back after a few rough years, but not what it once was. The fairways and greens were decent, but there are still a few patches of dead grass on the greens, and a few of the traps were untouched. Getting better, but still not what it once was... Keep working on it, and this could be a great course again!
Slightly ok
Very nice course layout but course maintenance poor.
Greens shaggy and marked up. Plenty of staff working but
not sure they know much. Nice club house for a wedding but not good for golf.
Overall condition
We've had a lot of rain in Ohio. The bunkers were really bad. I only got in two of them so that wasn't no big deal. The greens were a lot slower than normal but overall it was a great round and I understand what it takes to keep a course up and rain doesn't help
