The Club at Shannondell

Played this track for the first time recently on a hot deal. I will definitely be back. Not long but a good test of target golf. Quite a few tricky holes. Greens and fairways were in very good shape.

So here is the good news -

1. The course is in excellent condition

2. The price is reasonable

3. The staff is very friendly

4. The food at the restaurant was great and they had lunch specials - that day was a burger , fries and a drink for $13.

What I did not like -

So this is very player dependent.

1 I had to jockey between white and forward (senior) because some holes were just too short and others too long. The forward T yardage was the shortest of any course I play.

2. The fairways are wonderful to hit from but very narrow and the rough is so deep you cannot see your ball unless standing practically next to your ball.

So these two things did not bother me much but what I hated was the grass at the mouth of the putting greens was like velcro.. Every time I hit a great wood or hybrid and thought I was on the green the ball had just stopped short (and I normally get a lot of roll) . It became a joke with my cart partner. There is a public course in Florida with the same issue and its been identified as attributable to the Pas Paspalum grass being used (great for fairways, miserable at the throat of the green).

I thought the greens were excellent. The course layout was good. The amenities were very good.

Course is in good shape including, fairways and greens. Pace of play slowed on the back nine.

Its a very hard course with very small highly ungulating greens. If thats what you like, this ones for you..

For the price, this course does not deliver. Super right, so many doglegs, nearly struck with a ball three times from other fairways, people yelling fore all day, tee times too close together, significant wait at each and every tee box due to delays, no cart person, no ranger monitoring pace of play. I could go on and on. Will not return. This is a profit machine without much concern for the golf experience. I didn’t catch it when I checked the initial reviews online but most of the positive reviews are specific to the restaurant; most of the golf reviews are poor.

I've played this course in years past. It was always well manicured and in great shape. This time...not so much. The cart paths are a mess! Many of the tee boxes and several of the greens are also not great. Pace of play...also not great; as the tee times are far too close together. 10 minutes is simply not enough. The staff at the starter's station were great. Nice. Informative.

Parking- there should either be signage or a staff member in the parking lot. Asking folks to move their cars after they have already parked is unnecessary.

Tight golf course lots of trees, but good conditions on the greens and the tee boxes were above average.

Course in rough shape. Odd layout with parallel fairways. Cart paths are not good… tree root mounds and pot holes all over… rough travel

Friendly and welcoming staff. Difficult layout to follow, luckily got paired with someone who's played there before and made it a lot easier. Great conditions and would recommend.
