The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Course was just ok
First time playing the course. Markings could have been much better for finding the next tee, and there were little or no evident markings for the 150 and 200 yard distances.
Great fast moving round!
Early morning round meant damp conditions but course was in decent shape for the most part. Finished
My round in 2 hrs 50 min. Love that!
Great Course for the $$
Great course with challenging greens and not too many hazards to gobble an errant shot. Cart paths could use some attention but otherwise a good value for the green fees.
Doglegs everywhere and constantly hearing fore.
Every other hole was a dogleg and many of the fairways are on top of each other. Was hearing people shout fore all day. Course was in good condition and everything was good otherwise.
Very well taken care of
The course was in great shape but staff was a little pushy. The pace of play was very slow but the course is novice friendly and well maintained.
This course has a nice lay out for all levels
We were pleasantly surprise across the board. We were greeted right away which is not the norm we find at courses we have not played before. The starter got us on and kept groups moving, despite it being busy. The course was in fantastic shape. It was challenging for a seasoned player and the front tees were laid out in a way that advanced beginners and seniors could enjoy. We will definitely return..
Good time, definitely would come back
Overall this was a pretty good course to play on with a lot of good long drives and interesting opportunities for conservative strategies. My one complaint about this course would be that the layout had some of the front nine going back and forth so it was fairly difficult to discern our balls from the other golfers who had entered our fairway. This seem to be a pretty common problem over that course. Even with that I would definitely come back to play again, as it was overall very fun!
Slow and painful
40 minute frost delay, slowest pace ever, course is a windy mess of doglegs bunched a small space. Basically every hole getting hit by another holes balls. Would be decent for $20 but not the $55 i paid.
Short and a bit gimmicky
Decent for the low price. Just very short and lots of doglegs and drives that you can’t hit more than 200-230 off the tee
A lot of the bunkers were void of sand. They made us stay on court pass only claiming that it was really wet out there which it was not. We should have been able to drive on the fairways. I saw very few bad spots and if you have a ranger you can make sure people are staying off the couple bad spots but I had no standing water anywhere I was on the course nor did I see more than three spots with puddles.
Great course to play....makes you think about course management.. not just a hit it long and chase course.
Bunkers are a joke
This was first time playing this course. It's a nice layout and the greens were in decent shape. I've played over 50 courses in PA and have never seen bunkers in worse shape. Almost every bunker had more weeds in it than sand. If they aren't going to take care of the bunkers, then they should be marked as "Ground Under Repair" or eliminate them all together. I won't be going back any time soon.
DO NOT PLAY HERE
this might be the worst experience we’ve ever had golfing...
Carts weren’t cleaned off
Gentlemen in the club house was a jamoke when I asked him where to get a cart
The pace of play was so slow it took us almost three hours to play 9 holes. When we asked about rain checks we were told they didn’t do that unless course was closed. Needless to say we will never play here again and would recommend you play putt putt than golf at this course.
OK course - wouldn't be my first choice
Course was OK - greens & tee boxes in decent condition. Bunkers need attention. Some challenging holes. Very very open (too open) - a lot of parallel holes causing you to have to dodge sliced golf balls on almost every hole. Tough to tell what pin to aim at if it's first time on this course.
Overall enjoyed the round, although I played bad and it was raining on and off. In future I would go to Westover which is near this course before I would come back here.
