The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Where to begin...
To start off, I just moved to the area and I am looking for an average course where I can play at a decent price 1-2 times a week. I didn’t have high expectations.
I want to mention the layout of the course is very poor, it might be the most unpractical course design I have ever seen. This was my first time here and I’m playing by myself, and there were many holes where I didn’t know what was going on. On tee box 5, you are literally sharing the same tee box (different areas) with tee box 10, and there is very little distinction on which hole is going where, both holes could share an initial fairway and dog leg into separate directions. Very weird. Lot of the course has holes that are next to each other and going in the same direction, so that could get confusing too. Holes are narrow, And compact, so you hear a lot of people yelling fore (some don’t...) . It’s also an extremely short course, a golfer handicap from scratch to 20 probably truly only need their driver 4-5 times the entire round. If you’re looking to challenge your long game, it’s not going to happen here.
Next is the condition. Tee boxes weren’t horrible, some were, but my biggest fret are the greens. These greens are terrible, just littered with divots and ball marks. It’s as if they have a rule against repairing your divot. I almost felt silly trying to find my divot because I would end up fixing 2-3 along the way each hole. It makes putting impossible. Each putt has multiple obstacles.
One of play to begin was alright. I tee off on one and I’m behind a slower foursome. They very nicely and kindly asked if I wanted to play through and it 3 and I appreciated it. I made it through my front nine, trailing a nice twosome, keeping average pace so I didn’t mind. When I finish up at 9 and go to 10, there is a foursome out of no where teeing off. Very slow, didn’t ask if I wanted to play through, after spending 80 minutes on 10, 11, and waiting for 12 tee box I turned around and left, course wasn’t worth the wait due to the reason listed above.
I paid 36 bucks to tee off at 5 on a weekday, I’m not expecting a lot but I expected a lot more than what I got. Probably not coming back, only thing going for it is it’s very conveniently located between my job and home.
Side note: only positive thing about my experience was when I turned at 9 and saw the two some I was behind teeing off and a new four some pulling up behind them, cutting me off, I went to their bar/restaurant for a pick-me-up to take to the tee box and the place was very busy (for covid standards) and staff was nice and professional. Coming from a former bartender, when Bartender gave a suggestion about the drink I ordered I was impressed and delighted. Seriously, the only reason I might come back is because of this bar/restaurant
The traps for the most part looked like they hadn't seen any maintenance the entire spring and summer. We were warned about that by the starter and were told we could take a free drop if we landed in one. Otherwise the course was in pretty good shape and a stark contrast to the sand traps.
Thank God the old lady 4 some in front of us stop playing after 9 otherwise it would of be a 5 or 6 hour round no lie or no ranger around 2hr 45 front 1hr 30 back. On a Thursday Also want to say how nice cam is what a great kid and how nice he was.
Long round
They need to monitor things better. Our round took 4 hours 50 minutes. The course was full but people played tons of mulligans and we had a foursome walking in front of us. With a full course walking perhaps should not be allowed.
Not bad
Bit rushed start but overall good course. Nice to walk
Nice course for the price
Nice course with a great layout, most holes have a very nice dog-leg layout which keep them interesting. Greens in good shape and fairways good for the price. Only issues with condition were the bunkers, but it's been wet the last week or so so I can't fault them too much but a number of them had vegetation growing in them and the rest were rock hard. Really nice deal especially if you can grab a hot-deal time.

Had a tee time for 10:20 for 4, once we arrived they informed us they don’t open till 12. Staff was extremely rude. Will never go back again. Stay away
Great 18 holes for the price
The fairways were nice and open, well placed hazards and doglegs keep each hole interesting and challenging, but not frustratingly so. Greens were FAST and challenging to read. Course felt like it played longer than 6100. Definitely would recommend this course to golfers of every level
Good condition, tight layout
Conditions were good, with Tee boxes in just “OK” shape on some holes. As other reviews suggest the driver can stay in the bag on many holes. A lot of straight up, simple holes that don’t require too much decision or strategy. Fine course to get out mid week and practice.
Not a bad place
Condition of course - roads poor to ok, tees, weedy, a bit long and some bare spots, fairways very good, greens good, slow but consistent.
I always particularly enjoy playing this course. The course is always kept in excellent condition, especially the greens. The staff is great and fun to chat with before you go out for your round. In terms of layout, all of the holes are in a good layout barring the end of 13 to the beginning of 14. All in all an excellent course!
