The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

March 2019
Rated the course average because it is very wet. Quite a few places were swamped out. Overcast day but beat the rain. About 3 1/2 hours playing alone due to cart path only.
Rough start to the season
This review is not a reflection of the staff, who were friendly and attentive. But forcing groups to start on the 5th hole + frost delay meant late starts for everyone. Pace of play was pathetic- in 2+ hours on the course I wasn’t even 6 holes into my round and there was 0 chance of getting into any kind of rhythm.
I would hesitate to recommend this course to a friend, but less because of the course than the pace of play, which can be attributed to the quality of the typical player on the course rather than the staff. It would be nice if they would block off tee times for better/faster players early in the day to avoid the logjam of duffers.
Horrible drainage!
This course was completely muddy everywhere. It hasn't rained in a few days and there was standing water all over the course. Even some of the actual holes had water in them. I would never go back to this course.
Great weather in March
I went out due to the unbelievable 75 degree weather on March 15th. The course was still wet from the soaking weather all winter long. This made it muddy in some areas. This was a great start to the season
Doglegs
I can say nothing bad about the course ? We played after heavy rains , but course was very playable. Just wet
A little long for me and a few more doglegs then I like . But again I would recommend the course from tees to green every thing was in good shap
Slippery
Course was slippery due to significant rain fall. Beautiful day. Some of the green recently airrate
Enjoy the day. Staff was courteous.
Had a great time from start to finish
This course is a great challenging place to play. The course fairways and greens were in pretty good shape with staff working to blow away fallen leaves which slowed up play looking for balls. The 19th was the extra to the day great staff and delicious food
Great shape
The course was in great shape for all the rain of late. Pace of play was hard to judge because nobody was on the course.
I don’t like that the course does not end by the pro shop at 9. However, it wouldn’t matter. The restaurant was closed and at 11:30 they did not have any dogs on the grill.
Grumpy was the theme of the day for the staff
Good value
Hard to find a public course with nicer greens for the money. Pace of play outside of very early mornings is often very slow, the sand traps are horrible, and the 17th & 18th holes are brutally frustrating finishing holes. No range and the practice green is too far from the first tee to be useful. All that said, this is my fallback course when tee times are not available at my usual favorites.
Very beautiful golf coast
Very beautiful golf coast but with all the rain we been having coast was wet and muddying would love to play it again when it’s dry
the course was not in good condition.
The course was wet so club personnel said carts were to be cartpath only for all 18 holes. The rough was wet and almost unplayable. The on course water coolers were for the most part empty.
We got 9 holes in and the sky opened up and it poured rain. We did get half of a refund which we appreciated
Nice track
Cart path only made it a 5 hr round. Will return. Lots of doglegs.
Great day for golf
Got to the course about a half hour before my tee time. Went right out. First Nine no waiting at all. Back nine caught up to a three some. Some waiting but I was joined by Jerry who was walking and we moved along. A little over 4 hrs. for the round.
Course was wet from last night’s rain (cart path only) but greens keepers did a great job especially the putting surfaces which were in very good condition. Can’t always hit driver especially from the gold tees but I do recommend.
Slow play
The course had booked some apparent novices and a fivesome and as a result the pace of play was very slow. I had to jump around a bit to avoid the jams. The wet weather helped because several groups quit. I felt that I could / should have been warned about what to expect.
Excellent greens
Staff helpful and friendly. Had to skip a hole due to golf clinic with youngest. Otherwise nice pace.
