The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Sunday Golf
While I expect play to be slow on a weekend I did not expect the rough to be the main cause. The rough was to high causing players to waste time searching for balls that were only feet off the fairway. Hitting out of the rough was very tough which lead to more slow play. On the plus side I felt the fairways and greens were in good condition. The staff was very professional and friendly. The brakes on the carts were very touchy. All in all I’ll go back.
Expected more, just a regular municipal course. Most holes are next to one another, on one hole a twosome hit an errand tee shot and proceeded to play our hole. I’m a big driver guy and this course took that out of play for me. Fairways and greens are in very good shape, not a bad course all in all.
Lovely day Lovely partner
Arrived a little early. I was told someone would be playing with me and we could go off when ready. I met my playing partner and spent the next 4 hours enjoying a great round and great conversation. We followed a three some who moved along well. We played behind them even though they offered to let us play through. Some holes were aerated but rolled smooth. Hope to play with JP again.
Nice Course
The only problem I had was that the GPS link from GolfNow was wrong. Once I got there, I found a very well maintained course. It's a pleasure to play. They do keep the rough high, so you can lose your ball in it, which can be frustrating.
I definitely recommend it.
Disappointing!
This course is a nice layout but it's super tight and they've grown the rough to U.S. open length. On almost every hole you can drive in the fairway, have it roll off by 3 or 4 feet, and have a virtually unplayable lie.
It's a shame. It could be a really enjoyable course.
Rough rough
Always like Shannondell. Today was a little unusual. An abundance of rain over the past week plus didn't allow for keeping the rough under control. Lost a few balls in the thick stuff and even when you could find it, it was difficult to play out of it.
Nice course
The course was in great shape it’s target golf the rough was not very forgiving. Course played slow due to the group ahead of us but there was no oversight by ranger.
The Golf Manager was incredibly rude.
I had the mispleasure of interacting with the Golf Manager on this course as my first impression. BIG MISTAKE.
His rudeness, combative attitude and condescending nature toward me when I expressed displeasure with his changing my reservation and placing me with a stranger was uncalled for.
I wanted to discuss being placed into a group when I had prepared for a cart and a solo round.
His attitude was so off putting that I walked away from the prepaid round and left.
I called Golfnow and they listened and provided me a voucher to make it right. BUT, not at this place.
Too rude for me to ever return in such a competitive golf market.
Beautiful Golf Course
Manicured golf course. Enjoyed the terrain. This is my favorite golf course.
Check in guy was extremely rude
I arrived 15 minutes late and there were 5 cars in the parking lot and no one on the tee box or on the first 5 holes. The guy barked at me “do you have a tee time”. Yes 12 noon. He told me “you are 15 minutes late and I don’t have to honor your tee time”. Then he told me “next time if you are running late you should call to tell me”. At this point I am thinking there will NOT be a next time. Then he tossed a cart key and score card at me. A month before I was 10 minutes early and the same guy gave me grief for that. I am done with this course.
Bonus November Day
Got a low Hot Rate. Played by myself. When I got there 2 groups were at the first tee, a 3some and a 2. After watching them all tee off I went to the 5th tee to start. Finished in less than 3 hours and enjoyed it. Course was in good shape, a little soft and greens were in nice condition for anytime of the year.
This course gets real wet for first few holes and can be slow at the start, but opens up by 5th hole. It's a fair public course for their normal fees, but a deal for the Golfnow Hot Rate. Never been into the restaurant.
Played in a league there with work back when it was the General Washington Golf Course, haven't been back for about 20 years (I moved away after the job folded). Some holes were changed, a couple of ponds were added. Pleasantly surprised it was in very good condition for the end of the season. I was paired with another "senior" and we finished in under 4 hours - no waiting on the tee and nobody pushing from behind. We both had a good day and left happy!
Course Was In Very Good Shape
Surprised that I had never heard of the course or played here. Very good shape for mid October. I'll definitely be back.
Solid Course, Awesome Value.
I golf Shannondell after work all the time and have done some outings on the weekends. Its always been in really good shape from tee to green. Staff is friendly and easy going. I'd say its the best bang for your buck you can get. Its a pretty tight layout too so you could easily walk it. If I'm alone, I'll walk 18 in around 3 hours. always seems to be tee times available. Sometimes it could play a little slow esp on the weekends.
