The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Great Value
I was incredibly impressed with the course conditions at this price point. All staff members I encountered were very friendly and helpful. Course layout is typical for traditional munis in the northeast. I drove 40 minutes to play here, I will definitely be back in the near future. I didn’t go inside, so I can’t comment on that. My playing partner highly recommended the restaurant, said the food is really good. Management, keep up the great work, I play a lot of public courses within about a two hour radius and this was the best experience I’ve had in a little while! It was undoubtedly worth the hour drive.
Montgomery County Gem
This muni is a local gem. Sure it's not a Donald Ross or Fazio layout but Dave and his grounds crew has, in the last 15+ years, worked magic on a long neglected golf course. The greens are some of the best in the state, while the tee boxes and fairways are always in great shape and well maintained. Almost all of the bunkers enjoy new sand and are consistent. As a life long resident to the area my only suggestion would be abandon the weak par three 8th and return the practice green back into the challenging 170+ yard par three and make it the 9th,
Nice experience.
Golf ambassador approached me and seeing I had a bum leg indicated he would secure for me a handicap flag to use for the remainder of my round. I thank him for being understanding.
Great value
Challenging course…in great shape. Staff is very accommodating and helpful. Highly recommend.
Solid course for the money
Course is in solid shape, staff is helpful, pace wasn’t great but it was July 4 so I get that it was busy. Definitely need to keep your head on a swivel at certain points on the course.
Miserable staffer
At checkin I get a receipt for $50/person when after 3pm it’s 40$. So I questioned the grumpy staffer and he tells me you bought it online it cost more? My credit card better be $40. I didn’t t realize I pre-paid. So the 1st tee is backed up with 2 slow groups going off so we go off of hole 10 because no one was on holes 6 thru 9. After hole 18 we stop at the bathroom and I ask Mr friendly about the restaurant being closed. His response “its closed every Monday”. Then we go tee up at hole one and you know who pulls up and says “ you just starting”? We said we went off 10. He is not happy and says “you can’t do that”. My husband asks “what’s the issue “. My Grumpy mumbled and drove away. We finished the round in 3 hours if we stayed at 1 to start it would have been 4-5 hours. It’s 96 degrees with heat warnings. I will never play there again even though it’s less than 2 miles from my house.
Nice course
Nice course. Well maintained Wish they had people in carts selling beer or some water coolers on some of the holes.
Condition
The course was in fairly good condition considering heat wave we’re having , greens were in nice shape , I’ll be back for sure .
Holes are too close together
While the course itself was in good shape, the design of the course puts the holes right on top of each other and with little trees to section off each hole. What that means is, there are literally golf balls flying around like howitzers in Afghanistan. There were constant barrages of golf balls coming from every direction. I didn’t see anyone actually get hit, but it certainly was an experience! Would i go back? Yes if the price was right. The course really is in good condition. But every hole is basically a dog leg and balls are constantly being hit at you by mistake. For a good price, I would go back. But I certainly wouldn’t pay $65 for this course.
The Club review
There is a standing 10am tee time for four foursomes from the retirement center down the street so don't get behind them. The course is very narrow at times so hit it straight. I found a lot of people looking for balls for way too long. The greens were in decent shape but ball marks not fixed. The par 5's are very manageable. It is a good course and I'd play it again but earlier in the day.
Good public course!
Good public course but pace of play can be slow with 10 minute tee times but the bigger issue is with the golfers themselves for slow play!
The best part is that you can walk the course without having to pay for a cart! The course is very walkable! Played many times when this was General Washington! The course is in good shape for a public course! Long ride but will return!
