Opened in 1929, Maplecrest Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Kenosha County. It is conveniently located a surprisingly short drive away from Chicago's northern suburbs. This challenging public course has long been a favorite amongst locals both for the playable design and the affordability. The golf course is relatively flat although there are a few subtle contours that can cause some tricky uneven lies. Watered fairways and fast greens protected by bunkers provide the bulk of the course's challenges though it is still quite forgiving if your shots are slightly errant. It is a course that beginners can approach with confidence but it still has plenty to offer for more advanced golfers. One good example is the difficult green on the sixth hole, which stands out as one of the toughest in the area.

Has come a long way
I'm going to squash all the reviews saying course conditions are bad. This course has come a long way and plays very nicely. By next year everyone will be fighting to get in here, I'm sure. Great staff, good prices, and stellar service. My only thing I would say though is that I don't think I've ever seen a cart girl. Overall a nice place to golf.
Great Value! Easy going atmosphere
2nd time at Maplecrest with the boys. Recommend this course, both fun, playable, and a great value. Pretty quiet both of our visits, staff is very friendly, & all necessary precautions for Covid-19 respected.
What happened? Absolute shambles.
What happened to this course. Absolute shambles and embarrassment. Zero maintenance and the greens are atrocious. I’d rather quit golf than play here again. This is a viewpoint of 3 other golfers who played here as well.
Not in good shape
greens had lots of dead spots and had to wait for carts. never seen the beverage cart and it was 90 degrees.
Good deal, friendly staff
Played early - which helps a lot...this course books groups every 7 minutes, so beware if you are coming later...it is certain to be backed up and behind schedule. Going early fixes that.
A few challenges during Covid
This was the second time I booked a tee time for a foursome in the last three weeks. Both times upon arrival to the course and checking in I was told there were no motor carts, after I had prepaid for my round through Golfnow.
The staff was courteous and after a wait they did supply the carts. With the challenges Covid presents with many carts going out with single rideres there should be some type of disclaimer that there may not be carts available upon arrival. The first time I booked I ended up walking because we never were able to get carts, and walked in 90 degree plus heat.
The course itself is in average condition and is in need of some minor maintenance throughout the course. I have played the course literally a hundred time so I can give a good assessment.
Having said all of this...you can't beat the value and you can always get on the course.
I would say, book a round here, but beware of the potential shortage of carts, you may have to wait on carts, or even walk.
Maplecrest Fun
This is a very nice older course. Very manageable for walking. The course can play quickly, but is full of challenges.
Good Value on a LONG course ...
Played here for the first time(s) on a late June Saturday, then again on Monday. Reading about the age of the course, I expected tight fairways, short yardage and fast greens. I was only right about the fast greens - the course is LONG in yardage (especially when you’re walking, as we were), with mostly generous sized fairways. Course itself was in pretty good shape, but with several areas marked off as unplayable due to recent flooding , and ground under repair. Some greens had bare spots, but on the whole were in OK shape, and were faster than average. Staff was very friendly. Will play here again when visiting the area,
Hard to believe
Just a 45 minute drive from Chicago. Outstanding price value in the middle of nowhere. Literally surrounded by corn fields. Old fashion with tiny greens and slopes.
Walking for #1 a hole for seniors. What a find.
