Opened in 1929, Maplecrest Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Kenosha County. It is conveniently located a surprisingly short drive away from Chicago's northern suburbs. This challenging public course has long been a favorite amongst locals both for the playable design and the affordability. The golf course is relatively flat although there are a few subtle contours that can cause some tricky uneven lies. Watered fairways and fast greens protected by bunkers provide the bulk of the course's challenges though it is still quite forgiving if your shots are slightly errant. It is a course that beginners can approach with confidence but it still has plenty to offer for more advanced golfers. One good example is the difficult green on the sixth hole, which stands out as one of the toughest in the area.

Historical Value
Maplecrest was definitely a fun course to play. The staff was extremely friendly and I was very happy as a high handicap player. It was my first time at this course, but you could tell that being founded in the 20s it had that old country club characteristic. I think with enough funding and more people coming to the course, they can really build it to a top tier golf course. You could tell by the conditions that grounds maintenance has taken a hit, but that is to be expected given where they currently stand. It did not however detract from the amazing experience I had playing this course, and I would absolutely play here again.
Bang for you buck
We love this quiet 18 hole course because its a great value and long wide fairways. It usually moves along quickly .
Terrible experience
Booked my tee time and was told $39 for 18 w/cart. When we arrived was told it was $49, I said I was told $39 when I called. The guy then told me "dont try to pull that here" and was basically calling me a liar. After we tee off noticed there was much difference between rough and fairway. Every where seemed to be under repair. The course just isnt well taken care of in any way. The course would actually be very nice if taken care of. Extremely overpriced at $49, there are way better options to play for the money. The course does have a nice layout and would be great if someone took the time to keep it up. Absolutely disappointed to say the least.
I like it
Some good holes here at Maplecrest for sure. Some small greens and getable holes but then you drive up to some and have to think about where to hit it off the tee. I forget what hole on the back, maybe 15 or 16 but a huge tree protects the green and 300 yard hole has you wanting to hit driver but if you hit it into the tree it likely will kick into the forest.
OK to bring the wild driver here on most holes as it will be findable. I was happy with green conditions and speeds. Some tee boxes have seen some use but it's mid August and we've had lots of rounds played so expecting that.
Great value for 18 holes with cart on a Saturday AM. Happy to play it again.
You can't beat it for the price
For the price, it was a nice course. Went on Saturday and played 9 holes for only 15.00. Wide fairways and decent greens. Tee's needed water, ground was could be difficult to inset a tee.
Sand traps needed work. Below 1/2 inch if was hard, at least to one I landed in.
Overall a good course for beginners and intermediate players. I would play again, although from northeastern Illinois it is a bit of a drive,
Good for golfers that just want to go have fun
Course is in rough shape, bunkers are like concrete. BUT if you’re a new golfer grinding for cheap or just don’t care and want to go have fun, it’s an incredible value!
Best value in southeast Wisconsin
I play this course a lot and tbh it’s the perfect course to work on your game. Most hazards are probably 200-240 yards to carry so you need to either lay up or hit it clean to go low. Some longer par 3’s and some short ones. A +600 yard par 5 and both front and back 9 start with par 5’s. Pace is decent most of the time. I don’t know of a better course you can play for the same amount of money.
I played a round with the golf pro, Joe, and learned a lot. He asked what I wanted to work on (and why), then told me what I needed to do to accomplish my goal. He seems like the type who is good at adapting his teaching style to what will make you comfortable, but if you can check your ego and are willing to drop bad habits you’ll get a lot out of a lesson.
Great day to play
Freshly mowed! Rough is generally ROUGH! I’ve lost balls before just off the fairway. Holiday weekend and Canadian smoke adding to moderate rating for air pollutants, led to a far better pace of play!
Right time right day right olace.
