On the rebound
After playing here for 15 years I stared losing interest in coming back since the course was continually going downhill. No irrigation system, greens slow and unkept, dead or dying trees and fairways loaded with weeds.
I heard they hired a new superintendent a few years ago and he hired a greenskeeper last year. WOW I can't believe in just a few short years they could bring this course back to life. Install an irrigation system on both nines, got the greens running smooth and faster than they have ever rolled and the fairways are being double cut and the weeds are dying and the bare spots are disappearing. If you used to play here you need to come back, you won't be disappointed. If you've never played here come play this course and I know you'll be back for more. A really nice course that is playable for all levels of golfers. And after your round you need to hit the lounge at the hotel; bartenders are fast and friendly and the bar food is as good as you can get anywhere.
Coming back to life
I've played this course for the last 20 years. Around 15 years ago the course started slowly going downhill. The lack of a watering system and not having a greenskeeper along with no money being put in the course was taking its toll. Well to all of you that stopped playing here because of this take note: they have hired a new superintendent, and greenskeeper who used to work on one of the top private country clubs in Western Pa. In just two years time they have install a new watering system, made the greens some of the best around (smooth and faster than they have ever been) and made it more playable by removing a bunch of trees, allowed the native grasses grow and double cut the fairways. This is clearly the best shape this course has been in since i've been playing here. You need to experience the changes and get back here and if you have never played here before I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Oh, one more thing don't forget to hit the lounge after you round. Fast and friendly bartenders and the food is very good.
Reborn
I started playing here in 1965 when the layout was great and the course was good. Then over the years the course started to go down hill until no one wanted to play there anymore. Then they hired Jeffrey Gregos to bring this course back to life and what a job he did. Jeffrey and his staff removed over 300 trees added a new watering system and now they have the best green and fairways in the state. The pro shop staff are friendly and helpful now it's hard to find anything wrong with this course . For everyone that left because of the poor course conditions you should try it again I'm sure you will keep coming back.
Bad to Great
I started playing Linden Hall when I was discharged from the Marines in 1965. The course at that time was good with a great layout, then over the years no one wanted to play there because how bad it became. Now you can't believe what a turn around with the removal of over 300 trees and new watering system installed. They also added senior and ladies tees on every hole their greens and fairways are the best in the state. Jeffrey Gregos and his staff have done a great job in saving this course and they aren't finished yet. I live within 2 miles of one golf course and 5 other courses are only 8 miles away , I drive 12 miles four times a week to play Linden Hall because it's the best around. Everyone who left because the course got so bad should try it again and I'm sure you will keep coming back. The pro shop staff are friendly and helpful it's hard to find anything wrong with this course now.
Good too bad now the best
I started playing golf at Linden Hall Golf Course after being discharged from the Marines in 1965. At the time, the course and layout were good and over the years the course turned into a dump where no one wanted to play. Wow, what a turn around! This course has the best greens and fairways in the state. Jeffrey Gregos and his staff worked wonders cutting down more then 300 trees and adding a new watering system. The pro shop staff, along with this great course, makes you want to play there as much as you can.
It's worth the drive to play this course and they aren't finish upgrading. Next year they will be adding all new carts and driving range is in future plans. Soon Linden Hall will be like the old days where players line up to play everyday. The tees were always nice but now they have added new senior and ladies tees on every hole. So for all the golfers that left because the course wasn't worth playing, you should come back and give it another try.
Don't bother...
I have played this Course for the past several years during visits to SW Pa and have never found it in worse condition. Two years ago, the back nine was torn up for irrigation and drainage repairs. Last year, they had the front nine torn up and I mean torn up. Today's round was nothing short of ridiculous with mud, ruts, and standing water on most of the fairways. To be fair, this has been an exceptionally wet Summer, but none of the other area courses are in this disrepair. No warning was given when I paid for my round and now they have lost at least one more golfer
This is one of Thee Premier courses that I have played on. Very Challenging on both the sloped Fairways and the Greens which are both very well manicured.Very friendly staff at all 4 places, Hotel, Dining area, Lounge and the Pro Shop. This was my very first trip down and I am already looking forward to next year.
