Awesome
Had a great experience, very mature course, not a bad starter course.
Concrete course
The ball ran for miles. No matter where yoiu hit your ball, it ran. This course must not water very much if at all. Although there were sprinkler heads around most of the greens, very few balls held. The fairways were great for long ball hitting but if you had to hit with your iron, your elbows and wrists took a beating. I won't be back there!!! When my son ordered a sandwhich he was told "it will take to long order something else"! Who says something like that?
Todd,
Thanks for your comments. We were in a bit of a dry spell when you visited our course. We keep our greens and tees watered all season. We do have to maintain a balancing act to ensure greens do not receive too much water, to much water can destroy a green, while to little water makes it very hard as you saw. Today the entire course is lush and a great track to play on.
I am assuming your son ordered a sandwich while on the turn, we encourage our bartenders to suggest items that are very fast to prepare as to lessen the delay on the 10th tee. I will be sure to address this with my bartenders to ensure this is no longer handled in this manner.
I would be happy to discuss you experience further if you would like to contact me directly
not a bad course....but far from good
This is an ok course for the price, however the holes are very strage no yardage markers and no starting sign with the shape of the hole. My other big comlaint is the holes are kind of confusing you shoot stright thinking your hitting a fairway only to see that your actually playing from the ruff. Defently will not be going back too many other nice courses for the same price or cheaper
Interesting old style course.
As advertised on web site. Old style, tree lined, small greens with a lot of character on the greens. Pretty well maintained. Friendly but very interesting.
Same designer as Kankakee Elks in St. Anne, IL
Had to try this place as it's an old school design from the 20's. A ton of fun to play......was my first time there.....and I will absolutely return. Very challenging green complexes and you can 4-putt without much effort if you don't pay attention. Many elevated greens and a layout that has stood the test of time....there are some tree encroachment issues on some fairways so you need to play this place a couple of times to route your shots properly (a few blind tee shots). It's in very decent shape and the greens are in decent shape. At $25 it's an absolute steal......while not quite as good as shape as Kankakee Elks in St. Anne (see my reviews for that) it's a really really neat old school golf course worth playing time and time again. Highly recommended in my book and this course will always challenge your short game. Overjoyed that this course still exists in its current form and a most welcome and refreshing break from the modern designed cookie cutters.
Great course layout
I have played this course for years and believe that it has one of the best layouts. #14 is in my opinion one of the toughest holes i have played. Right now the course is in the best shape i have seen in years.
Great Value
If you can play this course for $25 or less including a cart it is an exceptional value. My only complaint is that the pins don't fit into the cups properly and are bent over. Just a very sloppy look and it seems that it would be a very inexpensive fix for the owner.
Looking for a last minute tee time on a great weather Sunday
I came as a single and asked a 3 some if I could join them had a great time will be back for sure the staff and Marshall on the course were great and my 3 some didn't mind if I was a packer fan
Spring Valley, OK shape
This coarse could use some updates and money invested to make it more desirable. Tee boxes were quite rough and some greens were also rough.I got a great price for my son and I to play but I don't think I'll go back.
Well maintained
Great course..great carts, well posted with good layout
Didn't see one bunker
Finding the next tee box can be a challenge. Holes are not marked well. There are not many yardage markers at all either, so I guessed a lot of the time. Lots of standing water all over the course as well even though it didn't rain too much
Great course for any golfer
This course has no rough and no sand which is great for a golfer who has a slice or a draw. I didn't lose a ball on the course which is rare for me. Greens are true and play fast when dry. The staff was great. I'm looking forward to golfing here again soon.
Value golf
Cheaper fees, friendly service. This is a wide open course with greater margin for error. The greens are a little choppy, but playable. Good course for practice.
Outstanding Value
$34 for 2 players with cart was too good to pass up. For a course that's open year round (sans snow) it was in surprisingly good condition. Especially given that's it's what you'd call a value course. My expectations were surpassed to say the least hence the high marks.
The staff is helpful and very friendly. There are no sand bunkers which is odd at first. Though I found it gives the course it's own character. There is also no clover or weeds in the fairways. Thumbs up. The greens were in pretty good condition but slow because of the previous days rain. But they're fair with plenty of breaks to challenge you. Looking forward to putting on them when they're quicker.
As for the holes in general there are some interesting blind tee shots. I really enjoyed the assortment of distances with 1 drivable par 4. The 5 par 3's required 5 different clubs and vary from licking your chops to "This could be problem". You'll use most if not all of your bag. That was a real plus for me. It's definitely not a 1 trick pony. The rough was fair. I found it to have challenges for any level of golfer but advanced players could certainly go low.
Only complaint. The holes are poorly marked. No signs. On too many of them you have no idea what's out there without a GPS map. The number is written on a trash can. We backed things up a little here and there because we were wasting time searching for the next hole. I know it's a value course but come on folks. Help us out here.
Again, it's a value course and I really appreciate having one of this caliber to play. There was no beverage cart, water or port-a-pots out on the course. But the bar-restaurant and patio are quite cozy and inviting pre and post round.
I'll definitely return often.
Fun for Everyone, NO SAND TRAPS, WOOO!!!!
I played this course with my parents, they love it because the fairways had some roll to them so their drives went further. I loved the challenging raised greens that defended themselves well from wayward shots. The best part of it is, no bunkers!!!! Needless to say this was enjoyable, no raking, no worrying about sand quality, just fun shots around the green!
Thanks for the great review, we work very hard to keep the course in playable condition.
