Bad Layout, Terrible Fairways
This was the first time I have played this course. Many of the fairways were roped off with very little grass. Many holes were cart path only. The sprinklers on the course were running during mid afternoon forcing us to get wet! The ranger did not keep the pace of play moving. The greens were in great shape, however, many were very small. I was not impressed at all with this course and will not be playing it again.
Great course. I will return
Great course. I will return They were working on the 17th hole. It felt like we only played 17 holes. I still loved the course.
Not much green!
Course was mainly brown. Greens were pretty much the only grass. Ranger kept rudely pushing our 3 some, while we waited for the overweight 4 some ahead of us, on every hole. No beverage cart. No Bloody Mary's. Shot well but disappointing day.
Worst Experience Ever
Course employee wanted me to pay for a cart bc a threesome started before 145pm tee time and i was suppose to play with them. Employee very rude to me and my friend that was going to pay and play. So we left and played Forest Oaks ,which was just as cheap and much better experience. Ill never play Crooked Tree nor recommend it to anyone. Terrible!!!
Great Experience
Course and staff were excellent. Weather was terrible, rainy and cold. Would have cancelled tee time but under Golf Now policy it states course must be closed to refund amount. I'll check weather a little closer next time.
Aeration
I play this course regularly and generally am very pleased. On this day, however; the course had just gone through aeration. It's a necessary evil, but it should have been at least mentioned by the clubhouse attendant.
Nice Course
Course was in great condition considering the amount of rain that the area recently received. The Greens were way too fast for my liking but it was the first time I have played this course. If I had any complaint at all it would be that they change the color of their blue flags on the Greens. The blue flag represents back whole placement but it is very hard to see this color flag from the fairway.
The course is very average
They allowed a shotgun start for a large group that conflicted with other tee times. It took 2 hours 40 minutes for the first nine. I quit at that point. Too many tees and greens are close together on the front side causing excessive noise.
Play weekday specials only
I have played here a few times. Best value is the weekday rates. VERY Slow play on weekends, due to over bookings.
Nice layout with a little bit of everything
Played this course which is in great shape for the offseason. The layout offered a little bit of everything with a nice challenge but chances to score. Greens were very fast and difficult to read but I still would play it again without question.
Jeckel And Hyde
A fairly wide open first hole. But the rest of the front nine is position, position, position. The back nine has water in play on five of the nine holes, but is open and long; at least longer. The greens are in good shape, and on the quick side. An enjoyable track. Definitely worth the money.
The perfect blend
The course is a blend of old and new. The front nine is an older established cedar tree lined course, with tight fairways. The greens are small an require pin point accuracy. The back nine is much newer with open fairways and larger greens.
Dr. Jeykell and Mr, Hyde
The course was in really good shape. I would say the best I have seen it. I had played this course several times after work with my colleagues. I had never dealt with this particular attendant, not sure if he was just having a bad day or what? His customer service skills were TERRIBLE! We got there right at our tee time instead of a few minutes earlier. I didn't see the problem since the place look like a ghost town as usual. However, the attendant commented, "You should be on the tee box now", like we were delaying play. He proceeded to go over all of the rules of golf like, none of us had played before. I figured he was not having a good day and since we were not early, maybe we needed a lesson in golf edifice. I thanked him and we played our round. When we finished the round the attendant met me at my car and began to scold me like I was his child about by colleague in another cart who drove passed the cart exit on 18. I apologized for my colleague.
I have booked a ton of rounds on here from New Jersey to Florida and have never been treated this poorly. I have even been late a time or two and it has never been an issue. The fact that no one else was there is how this guy could leave the club house and see my coworker crossing inside the exit. A clear sign that this course should be doing everything to acquire and maintain a customer base. I recommend customer service training for this guy or this place is going to see a lot more empty days.
Bad Day At Crooked Tree because of Management.
I was very disappointed after having played here a dozen times.
The person that checked us in treated us as if we were different, that we were Golfnow people. They paired us up with another group and told us to wait an hour to the assigned tee time. There was hardly anyone at the course. It was wide open. Parking lot had less than 10 cars.We waited and our 2some went behind a 3some. Only tee time out of 50 Golfnow appointments this has happened. Never play here again.
Two courses in one
The front is narrow with small greens. The back is wide open with huge greens. If you hit a bad shot, it will cost you at least one stroke. Great deal!
Not worth a long drive
Over an hour to get there and it was not what I expected. I think the front was built first because it has mature trees lining the fairways and tiny greens. Back looks much different on Google earth but I never got to it because the pace of play was glacial. 15 groups of seniors teed off before me and they wouldn't let me play the back. Ranger was unfriendly and made it sound like I was committing a major crime to try. I can't handle waiting 15 mins on every shot so I bagged after 9. This was on a Friday morning so if every weekday is like this it is not a course a single should try and get on. Seems the private domain of the locals in the area.
Very friendly staff...
Booked online for an early Sunday morning tee time. Somehow the booking was not entered correctly and the foursome I was originally paired with was overbooked. The ranger worked to get me off in a timely manner after the mix up was discovered. The course was rather nice. You would never know it was built on an old farm other than the surrounding farm land and its location. Will definitely play again if in the area.
Great Course for the Money!
You can't beat this place for the money. They take care of it and it has a good variety of holes.
Let's Play
Played with a friend and was also paired with a new fellow (golf now person). It turned that he was a nice a guy which made the round very enjoyable. The course was in great condition. The fairways were good and the greens were nice. The greens were slow. The staff is always nice and the GAS on the carts are a big plus!! Can't wait to play again.
Best value in Greensboro area
My spouse and I are beginning golfers, and have been sampling most of the public courses in the Greensboro area. We have found Crooked Tree to be a fun course to play, and a great value for the money.
All the golf carts have GPS, which is very helpful for a new golfer trying to dial in clubs and range estimation.
The course was built in two stages. As a result, playing the front nine and the back nine is like playing two different courses in the same day. Very much fun. Please see other reviews for details.
The course has also made a good investment in their web site. It is easy to see and book tee times, and they have posted a nice guide as how to play the course.
We have not eaten at the clubhouse, so gave a neutral review.
Staff has always been very friendly, and we have never had a problem with speed of play.
It has quickly become our home course.
