The Village Course at Waikoloa
About
Nestled between the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes, The Village Course at Waikoloa (formerly known as Waikola Village Golf Club) has a beautiful and unique location that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The verdant, rolling terrain is dotted with stands of young trees and lakes that were incorporated into the golf course’s design. Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course’s designer, tried to maintain the natural assets of the landscape while adding a few challenges such as fairways bunkers and doglegs. The golf course also features traditional raised greens that are subject to forceful prevailing winds. Although the course is challenging enough for the serious golfer, the relaxed pace and beautiful scenery appeal to players of all skill levels. Locals often consider The Village Course at Waikoloa one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets.

Distant Ocean View Photo submitted by PadraigJ on 10/13/2014
Great muni course
Great muni with wide open fairways. Greens were in great shape but slow. Some distant ocean views and a few diglegs. Sand traps are ground rock. Would highly recommend this for the price. Also played Mauna Lani North, which is pricier but much narrower and more of a challenge for 10 handicaps or less
Great Value
Overall a nice public course. Great value with GolfNow discounts compared to paying 2 to 4 times more for other courses in the area. Beautiful island views throughout including the many feathered wildlife.
Offers some challenges with pin placements and large greenside bunkers. Greens were much slower than they looked. No real sand in most of the bunkers considering it's on an island surrounded by beaches.
Great Course
I play on the Big Island frequently but never had played this course until now. It is a nice course with some ocean views in the very distance, greens were running about 8-9. Most bunkers have a pea gravel in them. Not bad, just need to adjust to how the ball in the gravel responds. Sometimes just picking it out instead of hitting through seemed to work since I found myself in more than usual.:-) I will definitely go back.
A few notes.
The course people were great. The price was OK given it's in Hawaii and the cost reduction with Golfnow made it very reasonable. The only hole descriptions are on the cards with small print (for those who use reading glasses :). The time between groups greatly helped the pace of play (many, beginner types, 20 yard hitters while I played) but finished in just over 3hrs/45min. Very friendly fellow players on the course wen I played.
Had a very good time with borrowed clubs !!
Super time
Excellent Course --good friendly staff--had a super time!
Very Enjoyable
We spent the week on this island and played four courses and this is the one we chose to replay. The course is very playable with wide fairways, nice layout, and some ocean views. Fairways and greens in decent shape for a public course. The "sand" bunkers were not really sand but what I would deem "white chat". Interesting to hit out of but more disturbing was finding the chat on the green from previous golfers and spending the time to clean the green for your putt. The staff was easy going and very helpful. Due to low tee time bookings, we were able to get off early both days we played and was able to set our own pace. Upon returning to the clubhouse, one of the few places anywhere where we were encouraged to use the cart to take our clubs to the car. That was nice touch instead of a guy waiting with a rag in one hand and his other hand out for a tip. This is a nice course for novice and intermediate golfers.
Very fun course
We had a great time. Pace of play was excellent and course was in pretty good shape. A course that is very forgiving of the high handicap golfer.
Wonderful!
I stayed at HGVClub in Waikoloa many times and played Kings and Beach courses several times. Waikoloa Village Golf Club has wider and more beautiful fairway with no bushes and desserts. Distance is also enough for us. Next time visiting Kona Coast, I will play this golf course again!
Check out the Hot Deals!
We play this course all the time using our Hawaii Golf Card when vacationing. Can't believe the rate (w/cart) through Golf Now. Awesome deal, to good to pass up!
This course is a good value
If you are on a budget this course is the one on the big island. I have not played others but I think it is a nicely maintained and enjoyable course. The pace of play was perfect as it was not too busy, however me and my mate are far from experts.
Beautiful Course and layout on the Big Island
Beautiful setting, great views, and very windy! Located about 6 miles from the ocean....many holes have great views of the ocean and Mauna Kea just to the north. Good conditions, with several challenging holes. Great day of golf in Hawaii, what is not to like! Will definitely play this course on my next visit!!
Great course and great value!
The course is located in the Waikoloa Village away from all of the tourist traps. Lots of locals play this course but there are a few out of towners out there as well. The course is in great condition and challenging enough for most golfers. For the price, you can't find a better place on the big island.
Best value on the Big Island
Staff is extremely courteous and professional. Very nice golf carts and rental clubs. Rentals (Taylor Made) seemed to be brand new. Course was in good shape for the $60 green fee. Pretty views of the coastline and volcanoes.
St. Augustine grass. :-(
This course layout is a fair layout. If you are always in the fairway there should be no trouble. But the rough was long and some areas are St Augustine grass which grabs your club and sends shots who knows where. The bunkers are not sand but some kind of rounded gravel. Price was lower than any others but not sure I would go back. Went because we are here for 11 days and can't afford high prices for a lot of days of golf.
good resort golf course
good course but is very over priced unless you use the golf now discount
Joe's golf experience
This is an average course. Greens were extremely slow because they had been punched 9 days earlier. Pack of play was slow but I was playing by myself. Without the golfnow discount it was way over priced
Resort course with nice views
Enjoyed a round at this well-maintained course. The rough is very forgiving with usually only grass to catch an errant shot.
Only thing I didn't like was the pebble filled bunkers. Hardpan underneath required an accurate tempo to keep from drilling one across the green.
Only a couple of water hazards.
Fun course!
Great value for the money. I agree with previous commenter about the sand traps being filled with fine gravel. Also agree with his assessment of the course.
This course is a friendly resort course.
Everything from the staff to the grass was good. The only drawback is that the bunkers are gravel rather than sand.
great course
This course was a great course, conditions of the course was great fairways and greens were really nice. Staff was nice, maybe the only thing to comment is club hours could be alittle better, but who cares when the course is a really nice course like this one, i recommend playing this on your next vacation here. we will be playing this course again while here on vacation.
