Nestled between the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes, The Village Course at Waikoloa (formerly known as Waikola Village Golf Club) has a beautiful and unique location that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The verdant, rolling terrain is dotted with stands of young trees and lakes that were incorporated into the golf course’s design. Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course’s designer, tried to maintain the natural assets of the landscape while adding a few challenges such as fairways bunkers and doglegs. The golf course also features traditional raised greens that are subject to forceful prevailing winds. Although the course is challenging enough for the serious golfer, the relaxed pace and beautiful scenery appeal to players of all skill levels. Locals often consider The Village Course at Waikoloa one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets.

Good course & value

Course is in good shape. Rough is tough. Elevated greens cause you to take 1 or 2 longer clubs than you normally would use. The only disappointment are the sand traps. They don't have sand. They have a coarse shard mixture that scrapes up the sole of your club. After the first trap I would lift out and play from grass. Other than that we enjoyed the course enough to play twice in one week.

Golf for Fun

We just golf to have a good time and hope for some good golf too. We had both. This course is better than the mountain courses, cooler than the ocean courses, and wider fairways. We plan on coming back weekly. We were paired with nice couple to make the experience even more fun, and met dome great, literally, turkey's along the way.

Challenging and Fairly priced

Beautiful layout. Challenging for an 18 handicapper such as myself. Friendly staff and course was in excellent condition. Play again for sure. Rather play 5 rounds here then 1 round for over $200.

Not as hilly as some other courses!

Easily walkable course, if pull carts were available, because of the short distance between green to next tee box. We don't usually like courses surrounded by housing but the houses are set well back and weren't a problem or a distraction. Not used to Bermuda grass (?) greens and found them very scary for the first few holes. Kitty litter-like bunkers were also a novelty and easy to hit out of. It was busy and we had to wait on most holes but still got in just over 4 hours.

Course is well maintained

Waikoloa Village golf course is a great value especially if you use golfnow.com to pick out some great green fee values. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Good practice area and my only concern was getting out of the bunkers which don't have sand but rather a ground up coral which takes some time getting used to hitting out of.

Fun course

The course is in very good shape. Greens are receptive and true to putt. Bailout areas on all except 18. Windy, but this is Hawaii. Houses not in play. Wife really enjoyed the course.

Nice lay out, good greens and a fine play to play.

This golf is one of the best bets for the money on the island. Nice views, elevation changes, good greens and nicely manicured tract! I would recommend this course to players of all levels as a great golfing experience and the price works for all.

Good course on the Big Island

This is a good course on the interior of the big island. You won't have the great coastal views but the course itself is a fair test of golf. The layout isn't real difficult but was in good condition and was a fun time.

Cheap golf- you get what you pay for

The course is about 20 minutes from the water. The course was very open and good for novice golfers. It's pretty difficult to lose a ball on the course. There is water on only the final hole. As we were heading out I was asked to pay a riding fee for my wife who decided not to golf- the course was empty, so I sort of disagreed with it as she wasn't taking anyone else' ability to golf that day. My primary issue with the course were the sand traps; they were literally rocks. They should call them rock traps. To the point were I would take a free drop behind the bunker because I didn't want to ruin my wedges.

This course is in excellent shape.

I found this course to be player friendly. The fairways are fairly wide and the rough is cut short. This helps pace of play. This is an excellent course for the average 20+ handicap, from the white tees. The only thing is the sand traps have "pea gravel" not sand in them.
