Blue/Red at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort
About
With a unique location on an island in the Delaware River, Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort boasts 27 scenic holes of championship golf. The island dates back to long ago when Pennsylvania was still covered by glacial ice fields. The Wisconsin Glacier, one of the last glaciers, formed the island when it melted. Today, the gently rolling landscape is abundant with trees and wildlife, providing a secluded atmosphere that is perfect for golf. The three nines are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Blue/Red Course crisscrosses the landscape, offering beautiful views of the surrounding Poconos Mountains along the way. The layout is mostly flat but there are some strategically placed bunkers to keep it interesting. In addition to the three courses, there is also a nine-hole, par-3 course.

Golfer Reviews
Country club atmosphewre
The course was in great shape. My shceduled tee time was 10;57 but the starter had us listed at 11;06. However, we didn't get off untill around 11;45. This did not present much of a problem jsut delayed us somewhat.
the pace of play was good reound took a little over 4 & 1/2 hours. After round we sat at outside facility had a few beers and chilled out. The facility had barbecued hot dogs, hamburgers and susages. None of us ate anything but it smelled very good., Would recommned this course and facilities.
27 Classic Designed Holes to choose from
I love this course. Over the years have 25+ Rounds here. This is a resort so at times pace can be an issue but if you're looking to play a round and time is a non-issue you'll be hard pressed to find a better dollar-quality value. Most round are between 4 - 4.5 hours but you can get caught behind vacationers.
Classic is the best way to describe this old-time course, but make no mistake it still plays true and has teeth. Plays 6600-6800 yds (Depending on which 2 of 3 9's) from the tips but the bunkering and greens defend the course well. Tees, Fairways, Rough, and Greens are in very good condition with some sparse areas in the rough but few in areas you " should " be playing from. Position, in both the fairway and greens, and putting are the keys here. The undulating greens can run very quick when hot/dry with flat/straight putts a rarity. Great mix of holes with par 3 ranging from 159 - 231yrds with 2 over the Delaware. Par 5's range from 471-571yrds, with well bunkered, smallish, rolling greens, so every club is examined.
Great practice facility, Very friendly staff, Snack shed is small and somewhat dated but works for a quick bite / drinks. Views of the Delaware, Mountain Range ( particularly in the fall ), and wildllife ( A Bald Eagle makes its home to the right above #3 white ) make this a very scenic course and one you'll remember.
Great old-school golf experience
This is a wonderful historic golf course. It's not overly long like some courses today, but it is a fair test of golf. Bad shots are penalized and good shots are rewarded.
The course conditions were very good. The greens were smooth and puttable, and firm enough to keep your attention on hitting a good shot. Tees, fairways and rough were all in good shape.
Overall, a nice golf course.
One of top courses in area
Wide open course very flat.
Fairways were excellent.
Greens are very large but challenging pin placements with elevation changes.
good overall course
started at 515 did not interact with any workers no food on the course no drinks and we were asked to leave in daylight two holes to go in around because they were going to close one of the gates on the bridges
Unusually flat for a Mountain Course
The staff was very friendly. The course was in good shape especially considering a rough winter. Green were tricky but a bit on the slower side. Overall the course was in good shape with no bacvkups, quick pace of play.
Great Day for 18
We played Sunday afternoon. Got out right on time on Red. Had a quick snack at the turn to Blue. The pace was good. No waiting around. Greens were true but still a little bumpy from the airing. Fairways were cut and in good condition.
Would recommend this course to anyone!!!!
Cramped course
This was my first time playing Shawnee and for as large as the facility is, the course seems very cramped. All the holes are ontop of one another and that made it difficult to see where you were going at times. The pace of play was to be expected with as busy as it was. If this were an 18 hole course, it would be incredible because of the views and terrain. However, with 27, it is just Eh.
PICTURESQE with interesting holes
Fairly forgiving. Only a few holes with good difficulty. Greens were just aerated but rolled and cut smooth. Didn't change the putting much at all. Sand a bit uneven and inconsistent: some fluffy, some hard. The course is well trapped around the greens but not as big a factor as you might think. Fairways coming in very nice and a fair amount of water that you definitely need course knowledge for. There's 27 holes and a great place to golf. Hardly ever a wait: easy four hour round. Scenery beautiful! Eagles, bears, Delaware river, mountains.
Will play often.
Shawnee inn perfection
Course was well maintained during the winter and in excellent condition on 4-27-15. All staff members were really friendly. From the grounds keeper, the halfway house attendent, even the young gentleman mowing. I highly recommend everyone to come here at least once. Definitely will be returning here myself. Keep up the excellent work Shawnee!!!!
Course was great, I was not!
The course was in great shape for just being opened. There was a frost delay, but I still finished the round in 4 hours of my normal time. It was a great day of golf. Just wish I scored better. I will be back again!
Rambo 44
Since it just opened the conditios were a little rough. I think it will improve later in the seAson.
Beautiful Course
This course is always in outstanding condition with beautiful scenery along the Delaware River. Such a great golf location. The course is very friendly as well, the staff are all wonderful! Additionally this past round they did a shotgun start to avoid frost delays, this was a brilliant management decision which should be shared with other courses in the area. We had a smooth round with very little to no wait time. So well organized, very impressive.
Great November Golf
Temps. ~60 degrees, Overcast & no wind to speak of.Considering this is a public course & It's now November the Greens were in excellent shape & rolled true.Staff was still very active keeping leaves off of greens, very important this time of year , who wants to hit to a leaf cover green.,,Staff very friendly & helpful.Played red 9 to White 9 in 3 hours. 40 min. for $25-, really cant beat that combo. If it wasn't raining today I'd be back now rather than writing this review!!definitely be back,,nice place to golf,
island golf
you have to love a golf course that takes you out on to an island in the river. just the uniqueness of that is enough to get you to go play here. course is in incredible playing condition for early november. a lot of history at this place too, with the early pros playing here and celebrities like jackie gleason and his fellow entertainers from that era..cant beat the deal i got from golfnow.com!..looking forward to playing here again and again.
Great "Old School" golf course
Course was in excellent condition. Staff extremely friendly. This is a gem, go and enjoy this course. I will be back.
Beautiful Classic Old Course
A flat island in the middle of the Delaware River, surrounded by mountains (all things being relative for the area!). A classic old resort with pictures of Walter Hagen, Jackie Gleason, and others in the clubhouse. 100 foot tall trees separate the fairways instead of waste areas or woods, so you can almost always find your ball on errant tee shots. $30 + tax on a Monday a fantastic deal. A very enjoyable round.
Shawnee Inn and Resort
The course was in great shape. There was activity seen throughout the course, mowing, spraying, and general upkeep, necessary for good course conditions. The staff was extremely helpful in keeping our round moving. Switched us from blue to red to blue to white because of us being a twosome and playing our first nine in 1.5 hours. Greens were soft and receptive and putted true. Would definitely go back again.
Greens, fairways, tees were in very good condition
The course overall was in very good condition especially given that we haven't had much rain this year. I would have rated excellent but the mounds and undulations of the red course greens made many putts just impossible - well beyond reasonable slope on the greens. It was a little buggy with gnats. Other than that, the course was in very good shape. I'd still recommend it.
A classic
Played the Blue/red routing. Spectacular Tillinghast design...great conditions, memorable par 3's(2 across the river)challenging green complexes...Can't wait to go back. Beautiful, old time resort with plenty to do for vacationers. Do yourself a favor and go there!
