Good shape
Greens looked good, fairways had a few ruts from the recent rain, but overall great value for the money!
Average
The course is ok. It would be nice if they fixed the dead spots in fairways, fixed bunkers, and improved the greens and make them faster, maybe run about a 12. We played the front nine smooth even playing behind a 5some, but when we made the turn, we discovered 3 people skipped ahead of the 5some and started on back 9 causing a log jam & threw everybody's game off. It was so rude. No staff were out regulating the course.
Not recommended
Arrived at course to find no carts available for our tee time. When we got a cart they put us at the end of the line. We teed off an hour late. Most of the greens had sand covering bare spots of various sizes. Greens very slow and bumpy. Fairways in good condition. Only food available is vending machine snacks. Counter staff not very enthusiastic. This course is not worth what they charge. Will not be back.
Great bang for your dollar!
The course is in pretty good condition for a public course; especially, considering how many young college students utilize it as a "learning" course.
Great course
Love this golf course. Fairways and greens are in great shape. Course is challenging but very fair. Senior tees are much shorter than regular. A very good value for the money.
Best Shape Ever
I have been playing this course for 20 years and without a doubt it is in it's best condition ever. My complements to the management and employes. Keep up the excellent work.
Love LSU
The course was very dry and not in great condition, but we love LSU and enjoyed our round.
Great University Course
Location, staff and club house were all to my liking.
Staff
We were in Baton Rouge for a conference. There was 3 of us playing. One of group needed to rent clubs. They didn't have much of a selection. So the Course Manager loaned us his personal set. Amazing! The other staff members were students and very friendly as well.
The course play was slow. Real slow. The foursome ahead of us must have been alumni. We complained and no one did anything. The course manager was gone. Our tee time was at 12:40 and around 3:30 pm was passed the foursome at #11. It was horrible. The group ahead of them was 2 holes ahead. They complained, someone came out, and we were told to wait for them to catch up and get right behind them. We left because we didn't have any flashlights with us! Never finished the round. When in Baton Rouge play Santa Maria. Great course and pace of play.
VALUE.
You won't find a better bang for your buck. Course is incredible for the price. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good condition. Pace of play on the weekends is a little rough, but on weekdays it's no problem. You won't find a better golf course in BR for the price.
LSU Golf Course - Needs work
The course wasn't in the greatest of conditions, the greens and area around were sloppy wet to muddy where the fairways were dry and in need of watering. The ruff was in real need of a cutting. Might let them get things straightened out there before playing again.
Best value for the money in the city
Honestly, this course doesn't get the love it deserves. I don't know if it's because it's the campus course or because it isn't part of the BREC system. However, this golf course is truly, IMO, the best value for what you pay in Baton Rouge. The most a round is going to cost you is $35-38 and twilight rights are down under $20. The course can be easily walked or you can ride if you prefer. The course is always in fair shape. Obviously it isn't Augusta or anything like that, but the greens almost always roll smooth and there's grass in the fairways. The only issue is if you get stuck behind college kids more worried about drinking than playing. Also, the last 3 holes are the only ones that remain from the original course and they are gimmicky and much, much tighter than the other 15. Overall, if you are not looking to spend a large amount to golf, this should be option #1 in BR.
Wet
Yes, Baton Rouge has received a lot of rain the previous two weeks. But there is still no reason why the course should've been in the condition that it was. So many balls were hit dead straight or just right of center and then it would take me 10 minutes or more to find my ball in the high grass, losing many. None of the course was marked so it was sometimes difficult to find the hole you were trying to play. The three-star rating is probably a little generous and I most likely will not return.
Good course
Need to label holes. Found myself roadmapping almost more than playing golf.
Great course at a good price
Fun course and greens are in nice shape. Not expensive even on the weekends. Tends to get crowded in the afternoons.
