About
One of Jim Fazio’s first solo projects, Riverchase is a surprisingly tough challenge given its lack of trees and relatively short length. The course runs through the bottomlands of the Elm Fork Trinity River and is loaded with water due to a chain of interconnecting lakes created to collect heavy rains and irrigate the course. While there are no forced carries, water comes into play at least 12 holes, and out-of-bounds is a frequent concern because of the housing community that surrounds the course.
No. 5 is the most difficult rated hole–a long dogleg right par 4 that requires a solid tee shot to be in position to reach the green in two. The approach is long and uphill into a severely back-to-front sloping green with a lake on the right and out-of-bounds and bunkers on the left.
Two holes later, No. 7 is one of the toughest approaches in all of DFW. This hole plays due south into the prevailing wind, and the elevated green has a depth of only about 25 feet. Bunkers line the back, and the slope in front is significant. Ups and downs are difficult because of the slopes in the green. Take a look at the pin placement when you’re teeing off on No. 4.
The good news is that other than out-of-bounds, the course is mostly wide open, so you’ll generally have a shot if you just miss the fairway. The only thick spot for trees is along the creek on holes 14-16.
Getting there : Take the Belt Line exit off of 635 and drive north to MacArthur. Turn right (east) and drive to Riverchase Dr., where you’ll turn left. Look for the course on the right side of the road.

Conditions
February conditions for golf are typically not great. That being said, this course had worse grass than most of the other courses in the area. The beverage cart stopped running 3.5 hours before close on a crowded holiday. Overall, not worth the time or money.
You mostly get what you pay for
Pro shop staff seemed ambivalent. Carts barely ran. Great layout with challenging holes that are still forgiving enough to allow multiple skill levels to play together. Would highly recommend for a mid-week round, but wouldn't travel out of the way to play it.

Good Value
This was my third time playing Riverchase. It's a fair challenge for the average golfer. The turf was in early season form (still dormant & thin) but the course still played OK. The greens were holding nicely and putts held their lines. The prices are lower when the course is in this condition, which made it even out.

Course maintenance getting bad
Cart paths have been bad for sometime, but fairways are becoming very bad as well. Green maintenance is becoming a problem now with the weather and birds. No longer a good value for the money.

What used to be
This course has gone downhill fast. This used to be the perfect $30 track. Played yesterday and left after 13 holes. The cart path beat me up so bad my back is still hurting. Pace of play was fine and staff is very friendly. However the course was absolutely unacceptable for a $60 rate on the weekends. Tee boxes were sand and fairways were rock hard with patches of grass. There are literal craters everywhere. I felt violated for paying $60 to play here. Riverchase you will be missed.

Needs updating
This course used to be a premier golf course in the area. Aside that we’re in winter and the fairways are not in great condition the cart paths is atrocious. The carts are terrible … the one I had almost gave me whiplash. The starter did a good job keeping the back to back tee times in check. The staff at the desk was friendly. And really you’re better off walking than riding.

Needs major upgrade
The overall condition of the course has deteriorated badly since I played this course couple years ago. The golf carts are old and dirty, need to be replaced. The bunkers had no sand. The concrete on the cart path were broken and in the bad shape. The ponds were full of garbage. The were no marshall or starter as we had to wait on every hole for slow players. I will not return to this course until some improvement made to the course.

Oops
Totally neglected in upkeep. Some tee boxes are like a inland beach. Greens roll good. Good luck finding a patch of grass to hit off of.

80% of the cart path is undriveable, pot holes everywhere. Every fairway has trenches running through it. Not sure I will ever come back here

Unacceptable conditions
After checking in and paying for everything when it came time to tee off they failed to tell me that they were an hour and 20 minutes behind. So much for warning up and then sitting for an hour to wait on the tee off. Everything was backed up took 6 hours to play. Also the course had giant ruts and cracks in it. Greens were in horrible condition. Cart paths are worse than driving in a construction zone. Will never visit again and or tell anyone to go to it. Should be taking off golf now. If you enjoy wasting money and hate golfing this is your course!

Great Course!
I’ve been playing here for years. Great course, fun and challenging layout, nice views, great staff. I would say for the $65 price mark, it could be in a little better condition but it is a solid 4/5 and definitely worth playing here.
