Much better
There are some spots on a few greens that are washed out but overall the greens are in MUCH better condition. We are looking forward to playing again here soon!
Late for a late tee time
Jam up on 290 forced me a long detour, arrived 20 minutes late for my 328 pm tee time. The starter accommodated me and got me right out on the post oak course, finishing on pine. A foursome waved me through on the #4 of Pine. Very nice! Was able to still finish before sundown. Pine #9, had to lay up after a short drive from the back tees. Still got my bogey. This course is a well kept secret, I’ll be back. Clubhouse is awesome.
Good layout but needs work.
We played the Palmetto/Post Oak combination twice in the last 10 days.
When applying a "Fair" rating on course conditions we did give consideration to what the Houston area has been through over the past 8 months and in view of the rainfall and wind experienced, the course superintendent and maintenance staff have done a commendable job. Fairways have frequent bare spots but greens are in acceptable condition. Erosion along the edges of the cartpaths, though, requires badly needed attention and in some areas could lead to a serious accident, Pruning is required adjacent to cartpaths as well. We were fortunate in obtaining a discounted rate and consider regular green fees to be a bit exorbitant, given conditions. All staff whom we met and talked with treated us with utmost friendliness and courtesy.
Getting reacquainted
It has been a long time since I have played Longwood. Worried about how it weathered Hurricane Harvey. You can still see effects but happy to say it is coming around. Always loved layout. Course needs dry sunny weather! In good shape but greens are slow. Played with a buddy and neither one of us could figure out the speed. Will definitely be back though!
Still recovering
On the whole the course is coming back but a few holes are still suffering from the storm.
Bunkers are goid. Some greens need some restoration. Need to put flags away from damsged areas.
Review of Pine Course
This was the third time I have played the Pine Course, the fairway grass was average and the greens were also in average
condition, The water was low in every water location, by approx. 3 feet. Sand bunkers were in good condition.
OMG
2 hours 40minutes to play 9 holes on a Tuesday morning and the course marshall driving ariund doing nothing and actually avoiding the players, who were all steaming!!
When tellingvthis to starter at half way he was totally unaware of the slow play issue. We insisted on going to a diffent nine - for the back. It was wide open and we got riund quickly. If we had stuck to the back nine they had guven us initially, our round would have been way over 5 hours. I got the feeling that the volunteer marshalls etc were not happy!
Nice layout, needs some work.
I have played this course several times and always enjoy being there. The greens are not in very good condition, grass seems unusually thin. Several holes still have damage from Hurricane Harvey that hooefully will be fixed soon. Still a fun course and a value for the money on certain tee times.
Recovering Slowly
I played the course a few weeks after Harvey and it was a mess. 18 holes were cobbled together.
Now the individual course are playable again.
The greens are not too bad a little uneven and bare in patches.
The tee boxes are ok, they have never been great, need to be bigger and better managed.
The fairways and around the greens are coning back but you often need to move your ball to get grass under it.
But overall the course is coming back, I hope they keep working on it.
Recovery is a process
I think the staff has done a great job given they fought coming back from Harvey and then the unusual cold spell we had this year. I expect by late spring this course will be back in it’s true shape.
Depends on what you are looking for
Course layout is one of the best in the area. Pace of play was excellent. Course conditions need a lot of work. Teebox to pair was playing trap and green are recovering from Harvey but are far from in good shape. Even though The greens lack grass they still roll true and have good pace.
Condition
Considering the fact that they have had to restore the course after two recent flooding events, it was in excellent condition. The greens were fast and true and the grass in the fairways was growing back in the areas near the creek.
Excellent value
The course is still recovering from hurricane Harvey. It is showing signs of all the hard work. Tee boxes and fairways are recovering but still need a break from the weatherman. Sand traps need more sand and even from one to the other for my liking but not bad overall. Greens room true and are a good speed and design. Overall length is good and challenging for all levels. A good mixture of right to left and left to right. Excellent course to work on your short game. Fun to play. Houses are hardly noticeable.
Golf course or a battlefield?
Course was extremely wet and while generally playable, too many bad spots in the fairways and first cut. overall in bad condition.
Staff is friendly and accommodating.
Greens in need of some TLC
Played this course in the past and greens were always good but are currently in terrible shape, way too many dimples and unrepaired mud ball marks on the greens, damage done to them from letting people play the course when it was too wet fairways were understandably a little rough due to recent rain and ice and winter conditions, but the greens are usually real good here and have suffered some major damage hopefully they can get it going again here in the next couple of months overall for the discount rate on GolfNow had a pretty good enjoyable round.
Terrible Shape
I haven’t played this course in years and was invited by a buddy to play this past weekend. The fairways and greens were in horrible condition. The grass on the fairways could hardly be called grass. You were practically hitting every shot off of dirt. Most of the greens all had big dimples and dead grass spots. It was impossible to keep your putt on line. This course was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey and the damage is understandable. The problem is they are charging $60 plus on the weekend ( unless you book through a discount website) and you can spend the same money at a nearby course and have a better experience. Hopefully the course will recover this year.
Course is in Rough Shape
we played the Palmetto and the Post Oak nines and the greens were awful on both nines. They should let you know that the course is not in acceptable condition right now. The fairways on the Palmetto nine were as bad as the greens. The course had always been in good shape on my previous trips. I am assuming Hurricane Harvey really affected them.
