Poor Greens
Played this course many times. For mid May the Greens are very poor. Need major help.
Like the course layout but won’t come back for a while.
Going Down hill
I’ve played this course over 20 times and it’s never been this bad... the fairways are nothing to complain about... THE GREENS THOUGH.....for The price of this course the greens should be somewhat playable, but they’re 50% dirt!
Greens need some work
Many of the greens are not in that good of shape. Dead areas and rough. I have played here several times and the greens seem to be getting worse not better with the warmer weather.
Solid Course for Afternoon Price
Very solid course for the afternoon price of $37. Fairways in good condition and each hole has a unique layout. The greens are in okay shape. Definitely need some more grass on the greens because there were multiple spots of sand or not true rolls.
Again, great for afternoon value, would not play for full weekend morning price.
First time & COVID19
COVID19 protocols done well though there were no flagsticks at all here. I think a "no touch" flagstick on inverted cups policy is sufficiently protective as is done by other courses. Played Palmetto/Post Oak safely alone in less than 3 hours. I would play here again for sure.
Trees, Wildlife, and People
The courses were nice overall, but could feel a bit crowded with the 3 courses' cart paths winding though one another in the forest of massive trees. The tee boxes, greens, and cart path were all worn down and looked like they needed a breath of life. We've had a ton of rain in the last couple weeks and when I played Cypress Lakes down the road 2 days later, their course looked to be in tip-top shape (but for 15 bucks more a person).
It was like golfing in the wilderness which had pros and cons. We managed to see many deer, rabbits, squirrels, lizards, turtles, etc, which was really cool and unique.
The course was still by all means playable, and had really great challenging but fair holes, with greens that rolled true aside from the occasional blot of rot, which made the outing fun from a pure playing perspective. But when I pay nearly 60 bucks a person I generally expect the course to look a bit more manicured and to have very welcoming and helpful staff to take the value to the next level. IMO Longwood seems to be at a point where I would not be surprised if it is thriving or dying in the next few years, based on how they take advantage of the place's potential.
DISAPPOINTING
I Scheduled a TT via GN, when i arrived we checked in, we went to the started to get score card, he told us we dont have nothing to give you, there are no score cards nor pencils to use. We went to the first hole and notice after the first shot that there were no flags, no one said nothing about that, none of the holes had flags, we didn't have a card to show us where the pings were so we were shooting at the greens blindly. The service is horrible plus they are charging premium weekend rates during the week for this crap. While everyone is out of work, they are taking advantage of our national crisis and screwing the same people that keep them in business. that is pathetic !! what a sorry organization, no sympathy for no one.
Would recommend if you can find a deal
The course is in bad shape even though fewer people are on it these days. Patrons arent repairing ball marks and since they took the sand away divots arent being repaired. Honestly, they should shut it down, resurface the greens and reseed. Only play this course if you can't afford to play a better one and if this one is less than $25. Warning, the greens are bad, some of them are borderline unplayable.
Needs improvement but still playable
I understand this is the transition period for grass and the greens, even though fewer traffic, are bumpy and not well maintained. Several dead spot and people not fixing divots. They should have shut the course down completely and sanded all the greens to fix the impurities and give it a break. Tee boxes were tall. This course has some serious potential and I think the patrons need to play and do their part to help. Picking feet up on the greens, fixing divots, repair divot marks, etc... all of the stuff that comes with playing.
A nice course to keep your Iron and wedge play sharp
The green speed changes every time you play this course and the conditions of the greens could be better but as far as the layout of the course and the approaches to the green Longwood keeps you challenged on par fours and part threes. A fun track!
Golf excellence
The course was in great shape. The layout was interesting and entertaining. Pace of play was handled perfectly by the starter. Will be back again.
