Great people, Nice course, average greens
Took a little over 5 hours to play due to a foursome about 3 groups ahead. We picked up a fourth on the 10th which helped the pace quite a bit. Course was in pretty good shape except for the greens seemed to be a little bare. Enjoyed my day and will definitely play again at Longwood.
Rundown
This course is in poor shape compared to previous years. The tee boxes are not level. The greens have a lot of large dead spots and are bumpy. It looks like they have really cut back on the use of chemicals and maintenance at this course. Many dead pine trees have been cut up and just left around the course. Eroded areas from flooding have not been fixed. Considering the discounted price of $60 it does not compare well to other surrounding courses. Pace of play was erratic as the foursome in front of us did a lot of hunting and fishing for their balls (on a Sunday morning).
still a work in progress
The layout is attractive and challenging. I enjoy playing here, but as the course continues to change hands, conditions go up in down. Presently, the fairways are in good condition. Traps are pathetic, and the greens need serious attention. There have been upgrades in customer service, as one no longer encounters the rude old curmudgeons who formerly served as starters.
It would make a great purchase opportunity for Canongate, Or perhaps, with Clear Creek as an example, the County could purchase and contract out maintenance.
Good round Greens need some work
The greens at longwood need some work, but they made sure i was aware of the bumps before hand
This course is in terrible shape
Most of the tee boxes look like a cow pasture and all of the greens are like putting on a gravel road. I you are willing to pay $56 a person there are several courses in the area that are less expensive and have great course conditions. This course has 3 9-hole courses and they don't tell you what course you will be playing for your 2nd 9 holes. If you call them to make the tee time to be sure you play the two course you want there tee rate is $20 more person. This course is not worth $56 a person.
Poor greens and fairways
Greens in very bad shape. Fairways hard and little grass. Everything cut too short. Some of the worst in Houston area.Told they are putting some money into the course to improve things. It is going to take a while since it is in such bad shape.
Greens have to be addressed
Great course layout but the greens vary from poor to terrible.
very poor conditions
Greens were terrible. Play was slow. The only time they pushed was when we were asked to hurry up because they they had a scramble and we needed to get off the course. We were not told about scramble when we booked tee time.
Bad Time
Greens weren't taken care of! Staff couldn't get it together for our tee-time due to tournament on 3 different changes. Conflicting with fellow Golfers!!
Good Location but needs some TLC
The course is in a handy spot for me and I have played there three times this spring. The condition of the course has declined over the last month.
The greens were very inconsistent and even after a week of rain, nothing would stick. There was a hail storm the night before I had played but most of the greens were too firm for any damage. Fairways were above average shape. Tee boxes were as inconsistent as the greens. I hope a streak of more predictable weather helps get the maintenance back to where this course was in March.
Poor green and tee box conditions
This is the second time I've played this course and it's usually a great course for the money, but this time the green and tee box conditions were terrible. The last time I played course conditions were excellent, so I'm not sure what has changed at Longwood. I wouldn't recommend this course to someone, at least until they fix the green conditions.
Needs Improvement
I have played this course numerous times in the past and I was disappointed in the condition of the greens. This course had a history of having great prices based upon the condition of the course. I hope they can improve the conditions of the greens because the current condition is not acceptable for the price. In addition to this they need to improve the signs that direct you from one hole to another on Palmetto and Pines.
nice course, but needs work on greens and tee boxes
Looks like the greens were cut too short for too long and got beat up. Many tee boxes need a lot of work. Fairways were generally okay for early spring.
course is under new ownership and the conditions are much better
The course is under new ownership and it's just a matter of time before it becoms the jewel of the NW Houston area my rating would have been higher but the necessary evil of airation on the fairways scored it a little lower
Great shape
I live in Longwood and had not played here for several years. The course used to have some quirky layouts on some holes and it could typically take 5 hours or longer to play a round. It was good to play here, as the course was in very good shape. Sand traps were also good for winter and the changes to some of the holes were welcomed, as they made the course better. There was not a crowd, so we were able to finish in less than 4 hours. It will e interesting to see the rate of play on busy days, but overall the changes make this a much better course. The greens were in great shape and sometimes difficult to read, adding to the overall challenge.
Only Downside is No Walking
I don't know for a fact that they don't allow walking, but the 27 holes are spaced out over several neighborhoods and the drive between a few holes is likely a quarter mile at times.
There are a few signs that need to be placed to make navigation a bit easier. For example, when you come up to a fork in the road, there aren't always signs directing you whether Pine or Post Oak is to your left or right. It would make it fool proof if they just put in a few signs, but again, this is not a terrible distraction.
Definitely recommend this course.
Very slow pace of play
The course has a lot of character. It is very popular and was very slow the day I played. Pace of play is largely determined by the group or two immediately ahead. I played with a course marshal who said the course is always busy and usually a little slow but it was worse than normal. He also said that the poor drainage and the wind restricting trees make it a course to avoid after it rains.
Good course good time
Played with some old colleagues had a great time course was in good shape for this time of year
Houston golf experience
This course is challanging and very scenic. The issue we had was the golfers in general did not follow any ettiquette nor did a ranger monitor or enforce any rules. They allowed alot of singles and twosomes which slowed the play and twice golfers just jumped holes wigh nowwhere to go, slowing our game even more. Course conditions were not great. Some drainage issues
Well maintained course - excellent value
This is a well maintained course in the Northwest part of Houston with very reasonable greens fees. There are many interesting holes where club selection is critical. Most holes are surrounded by woods, so a stray drive can get you lost. I will go back there and plan to play often.
