Comfy golf
Good course for fun & money.. The only thing is signage direction for one hole to next. Other than that everything was good. Nice greens.
27 holes of very good golf
The course was in very good shape, fairways were excellent, few greens had ball spots, overall they were good.
Good, but room to improve
Great location, nice facilities, good variety with the 27 hole layout. Tee boxes are all fair to very good, greens have a bit more recovery to go after the freeze but they did a great job keeping the thin spots out of play with thoughtful pin placement. Fairways are fantastic, but short rough is a bit tall given how wet it is - easy to lose a ball 10 feet from the fairway because it digs into soft ground. The signage on such a complex course absolutely needs to be improved - can easily drop 10 minutes just trying to find the next hole with so many forks in the paths, tunnels, and bridges. Signs don’t cost that much so I’m not sure why this hasn’t been addressed given the amount of input there is on the topic.
WHY IS IT SET UP LIKE THIS?
The course it self was really nice. Clean tee boxes, decent greens. But trying to find hole 2 was a nightmare! There were no signs, and 4 roads. Hole 2 was a 3 minute drive from hole 1 on the mail road! If you find yourself an explorer I guess give it a go. The course was clean and nice. Overall, pretty good.
Longwood rolling well
I’ve played this course a handful of times. Played Palm and Pine this time. Always seemed very slow on the greens and that was a frustration previously. They seemed to be rolling really well compared to the normal course conditions.
The bunkers still need work, they are pretty hard and not ideal to hit out of. They had water canteens around the course. Which is a plus in the heat and some courses aren’t offering that during COVID. I feel like heat stroke in Houston is a more present danger on the course but that’s a diff convo.
Pace of play was fine for a Monday. I joined in with 3 others to make a foursome and we finished in 3:30.
Staff is fine, I don’t expect a whole lot though. I’m sure others would want staff to be a bit more welcoming.
Overall, price, layout and green improvements made for an enjoyable round. Might even join the loyalty club if they keep the maintenance up.
Nice course
Enjoy playing here and usually in nice shape. Only complaint is sometimes tough to navigate though the course with 27 holes and multiple bridges and tunnels to get to next hole. Better signage would help tremendously.
Hit and Miss
I booked a Tuesday afternoon outing via Golf Now. Prepaid for a cart and 18 with a 4:06pm tee off. Check in was fine and on time. When I went to get the cart, I saw two young workers getting in the last two carts and parking them in the barn. Odd. But ok. Went to the starter who gave me his cart. This track has three 9 hole loops. The starter changed the two loops given to me by the Pro Shop. The front nine was a breeze and I was thinking that starter knew what he was doing. Course was in decent shape. I enjoyed it. On the back nine. The Pine Course. First two holes went quick then I hit the third hole and for the next four holes we were stacked four groups deep. Then people caught up to me and started hitting into me while I was waiting to hit. No course ranger in sight as groups were spending 10 minutes at a time in search and rescue operations. I finally skipped a hole to get ahead of the log jam. Then on the 8th hole tee box, my cart ran out of juice. Called the club house. No one answered. Called two more times. No one answers. Walked the last two holes. Got back to the club house. It was closed. The starter too was gone. Just young kids cleaning up. How could you shut down operations and not answer your phone with people out on the course and still daylight? What if someone had a heart attack or some other accident? So in short: Course is promising, but execution is poor. I was trying them out before considering joining. They are not an option for me anymore. Oh, and I forgot to mention the signage is horrendous. If you Jane never played the place, you will get lost.
That is all.
PSW
Longwood
Long lists of pros:
Layout
Speed of greens
Lush fairways
Pace of play
Clubhouse
Short list of cons:
Cart paths need repair in spots and the shrubs, bushes, greenery that border the paths need major cutting back.
tees need maintenance; rough inconsistent in height
Affordable course
Fairways were in excellent conditions, greens were good to very good, tee boxes need work, pace of play was good but it can be better if they would marshal it.
Maintenance takes a backseat
While the course did take a lot of rain from previous days there is still no denying that maintenance is not a high priority at this course. The sand traps were definitely in need of maintenance with rain not the only issue as there was grass and weeds growing in multiple traps besides being washed out.
A recurring issue throughout this entire summer is the quality of the greens. Dead spots and weeds fungus etc. are evident throughout the course.
While the temperature reached into the upper 90s there was Not any personal on the course with refreshments nor were any water bottles present.
