The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

DO NOT COME HERE
Come here if you have 6 hours to waste and wanna endure slow pace and horrible golfers..
Also they had a classic car show on this day… right next to where you tee off for #10.. so cars revving engines and other loud noises are just what you need to golf.
Horrible experience but that’s what you get at battleground.. should’ve known better
Play here if you wanna waste a day
Play here if you have too much time on your hand.. time management is not only poor, it’s non existent… You will be stuck behind a foursome that has a handicap of 20+. If you want to waste time and money the perfect course for you is Battleground. Marshall was old and didn’t get off his feet for more than 5 min at a time. Waste of Time and Money.
In my opinion this course is in rough condition. the tee boxes are the worst an have been for a few years now. some hole they even had you teeing up in the fairways. The fairways are decent as usual. The greens got some kind of weired grass combo growing up on them. I use to enjoy playing this course but I dont think Ill be back for a long time.
Good condition, slow pace!
Couse condition was pretty good. Pace of play was great on the front 9 was great, but VERY slow on the back. Staff was great!
Great Course for the money
Battleground always struggles with their tee boxes and some of their greens. You will find plenty of sandy dried out places throughout the course but it is a solid everyday course. It has potential to be spectacular but ends up average based on how well it’s taken care of.
Nice course but not comfortable to play under heavy rain
Very warm welcome. All the staff is very kind and show a strong commitment to your wellness.
A bit disappointing that the practice was closed, and nothing was written about it on golf now reservation page. Maybe I did not read it properly ?
Weather conditions were very harsh but I managed to finish this very nice course !
Few comments on the course layout.
Somme fairways need to be improved (a lot of unattended plants on it) s greens conditions are irregular. Some of them are really very nice and others very average.
Anyway, although these few things and the weather, I really enjoyed this course and I’m looking forward to playing it again !
Thanks again for all the staff.

Battleground
Fun course and pace of play was great for a Sunday. Course conditions have improved since my last visit.
Masters Sunday Round
Conditions were good. Fairways are cut a bit short. Greens are fighting the Poa Annua, but we in decent shape otherwise. (Cost me a couple of birdies though). Pace of play was about 4:25 but it was Masters Sunday and the group ahead of the group ahead thought they needed to put out everything.
