About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

Gus Wortham is a must play
The greens ,fairways and bunkers were country club quality. Totally enjoy joy Every time I can get on there.
Great day in the park
Loved everything except being over charged for a cart. The Golf Now rate included a cart and I was charged $14 for a cart. I paid for a twosome and wasn't paying attention when I was charged for my partners cart.
Excellent course and layout. Slow pace
The course layout is very creative and takes advantage of limited Houston elevation changes throughout the landscape. Greens are a fun challenge and offer strategic approach shots. Bunkers are well-kept and can present a challenge in of themselves. The drives on 6 and 18 present some fun risk-reward, and the approach shots at holes 7 and 18 are a blast. The quality of the course conditions was excellent for the money. Overall great conditions and entertaining layout.
Our only gripe, and debatably a dealbreaker, was the pace of play today. Round took over 5 hours to complete and today was a Monday so that is concerning. Hope to be back but hoping the pace of play isn’t such an issue next round!

Made a mid afternoon reservation to play golf and it was perfectly priced! Great course!
Good Value for the Money
This is the second or third time we’ve played Wortham. The course has a nice layout with some challenging holes. There’s a bit of street noise from a busy highway near the first three or four holes… But that’s tolerable . The greens were sanded and a bit slow , but in good shape. The bunkers were average… And in some cases, there was not much sand in them…in some cases hardly any (1-3 inches).
But overall, for the money, it’s a convenient course and a decent layout. We would most likely play there again…
