Love the course!
Great round and the staff as always went above and beyond!
5hr 10min round
Played 18 at 1:50pm on Friday, was incredibly slow. We ended at 7pm. Never again...
Challenging day at the Ridge
This course was the 4th stop on our group's Denver trip.
The first thing to say is that the staff was extremely friendly, both in the pro shop and in the restaurant. Our group (and me personally) is always seeking out Troon courses wherever we play, and yet again we were not disappointed.
The conditions were superior. The one criticism would be that the greens were so firm they would not hold anything. Even when hitting a perfectly flush gap wedge off the fairway, the ball would bounce and roll out 30-40 ft past the landing spot. This made approaches and chips very difficult. This was frustrating on the downhill par 3s on the back 9. On the flip side, the greens were a great speed and rolled very true..
The layout is challenging and pretty fun. There are some opportunities to hit things besides driver off the tee, which I always appreciate. While I enjoyed the course very much, I can't say any particular holes stood out to me. #10 is super tough off the tee... like driving down a bowling lane.
In general, the scenery is lovely, but there are a good number of houses surrounding the course. That didn't really bother me, but I know for some people it ruins the experience.
This is a very nice course and worth playing when you're in town.
Great Course
If you like beautiful couses in great condition with a very friendly staff, you'll like this course. Not great for beginners though as it has a lot of trouble , surrounded by Ponderosas, scrub oak and water hazards. Greens are firm and fast with plenty of slope, running 11 on the stimp meter.. One of my favorite courses.!
Too Many Cart Path Only Days
While we did have heavy rains yesterday, The Ridge management has a tendency to have Cart Path Only days more than other local courses. My review is slanted because they would not allow me to play with a handicap flag. This has happened several times before. After complaining, the head pro did provide a rain check.
Course management has slipped over the past few years, while prices have risen to $150. . Previously, after heavy rains, that flood the traps, crews would be out early pumping out the water. I watch this from my home on the course.
Despite this criticism, The Ridge is still one of Denver’s best public courses.
Great course, great staff
This was a 3rd round here. It's a terrific course that demands shotmaking more than distance. There are some narrow window on some holes that pull driver out of your choices. There's good elevation changes that make you think. The greens were firm enough to require either loft or spin to stick them. The bullets were probably the only thing before standard with some without enough sand or even mud on a couple. A couple turkey even came out to add to the experience. This is worth the effort to come play.
One of the most scenic and challenging courses you'll find in Colorado. Cant miss mountain golf.
What's up with the carts? 20 years to fix the bunkers, how long for GPS carts?
Great day on the course
Second time playing the course could not have been better, try it and you will see.
Great Course, Beautiful surroundings
We had a great day of golf when playing this course! Challenging and beautiful. Recommend this course.
Exceptional Layout - A Must Play for Golf Enthusiast
Since relocating from Chicago 15 years ago, lived in Central Florida for 10 and now in Denver South Suburbs for Last 5, my take is that The Ridge At Castle Pines stacks up to just about any course that I have played in my many years of golf.
I enjoy playing The Ridge At Castle Pines is because of it's natural beauty and it 's exceptional physical layout. Towering oak - tree lined fairways, hilly terrain, strategic water hazards, and fast but fair greens.
The Ridge at Castle Pines North is a challenging must play course. Those who consistantly hit the fairway will be rewarded. Those who are not hitting fairways or greens will most likely have tough recovery shots. The bottom line is except your bogey, or double/tripple bogey and move on (when warranted, pick it up and head to the next tee, don't hold the course up, figure it out on the next hole/driving range)
One thing that the couse has been working on is improving the green side bunkers (sand traps). They made alot of progress but they still have some work to do. But all in all, I still rate The Ridge At Castle Pines one of my personal favorites.
My thinking is when you play a championship course, such as The Ridge, you should bring plenty of balls. Don't spend over 2 minutes searching for balls in high rough. Just except your medicine for missing the fairway/green, drop another ball and keep it moving. That is what make golf fun, good hole, not so good holes, bad holes and disasters. Just think of it as being just like the ATM, if you do not put anything in you don't get anything out (practice your weak points before you head to the first tee)
To me The Ridge At Castle Pines is a whinning free zone. I will not get my whinning on about anything, not even if there is slow play on the days I am out there because I know that the rangers are dong thier best to ensure that the pace of play is fair for everyone. If it was one thing that I would change it would not be the course, it would be pricing. The rates can be plenty steep just like most championship golf courses. The bottom line is you get what you pay for, and from my standpoint The Ridge At Castle Pines did not disappoint.
CO golfer
Beautiful, challenging course. Our only problem was the cart. We played in the afternoon and the cart battery was low.
It started failing by 14. We had trouble getting back to clubhouse. The people we played with said this often happens as the carts have already been used in the morning.
Ridge at Castle Pines
First time playing this course and I will definitely return. They were redoing many of the bunkers, that is why I gave a good rating instead of excellent. Good mix of long holes, short holes and tight holes.
Very Nice, But.....
Good track. Challenging. Except the bunkers, course in very good condition. Bunkers are basically unplayable. It’s like hitting a sand wedge off your driveway. Back is much prettier than front. Too many houses lining both sides of holes on the front. Good holes though. Overpriced, look for deals.
Some autocorrection issues:
The bunkers were probably the only thing below standard ...
