Pine Forest Golf Club
About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

Have to play this course at least once.
The course starts out fairly easy to get your swing going although the front nine can be a little narrow at times. Beautiful meandering course through houses and forest. The greens are undulating and definitely have break that you need to learn as this Florida boy had a hard time getting the putts to drop for me. But the course is made on the back. 10 is fairly mundane but 11 - 16 make this course a very unique course for the flatland players. Make sure the cart has plenty of fuel and I wouldn't suggest walking this course unless your in mountain climbing condition. Am looking forward to my next trip from Florida and this will definitely be on my list for replay.
Golf trip
Went online to GolfNow and got great deals on Golf tee times at Pine Forest Golf Course in Bastrop, TX.
It was quick and easy. Thanks Golf Now!!!
Great course!!
First round here and I loved it! Links style course is well worth the trip. Got rained out on the 14th hole. Had to rush back to clubhouse through the rain and last four holes. Will surely go back so I can play entire course!
Great value, plenty of challenge.
This hidden gem has a lot of very cool holes with great scenery. Camera worthy par 3's. It was in good shape, and has a very friendly staff. Play it at least once before you go make a bet with buddies, and take some notes, as there are a few blind shots, local knowledge a big plus. Of course, you'll need a pretty accurate tee ball. Great value and fun for the money.
Very Good Time!
I took my kid's and wife(she watched) to play. Everyone had a really good time. The length does not wear out the boys. It is very fun and challenging for me to play. Very scenic! It is one of my favorite places to play in the Austin area.
Fairways have a lot of "ground under repair" areas
The views are wonderful here, but we were surprised to see more fairways roped off than ever before??
I enjoy that almost every hole has a different challange
Only 3 holes had some fairway repair/work going on in them. the greens were in great shape for the most part especially for late June.
OK course, but others in the area are better
This course does have some nice views & challenges, plays narrow on a few holes, some blind shots & very hilly. The staff at the pro shop is not friendly at all, you will be lucky to get much out of them except how much you are paying them. Older club house needs updated. The course fairways are thin in spots & the greens are usually slow & a bit shaggy. Don't get me wrong, it's not a dump, but for the money & if in the Bastrop area, go play Colovista.
Great views
Course could be very very nice. Needs a lot of grass to grow in and more manicuring. The layout is great, great views and challenging for the first time out. It's definitely a placement course.
A fun place to play
I hadn't played in three years and my playing partner hadn't played in a year but we had a great time. Lost a few golf balls, made a few really bad shots and a few really nice shots. The course was in good conditions, the marshalls were friendly and helpful and some of the holes are quite challenging.
Good Value
Great course for the money. You can. Tell it hasn't rained a whole lot. There are a fair number of bald spots and the greens were quite bumpy.
drops
great track. plenty of elavations changes.some great holes. a little rough around the edges but very friendly . par 3 on the back drops so much 172 yds. normally a 5 iron. hit a 9(130 yds) 15ft long.greens have a lot of character but a small.
Reliving my earlier years...
I joined my son... plus my brother and his son... for a challenging round of Skins. Weather was blustery for April, but it could have been worse. I first played this course shortly after it opened, when it was only the current front 9. If you are not hitting the ball straight, this will be a tough course for about half the holes. Back nine is unique, as you have three par 4s, three par 5s, and three par 3s. Almost all holes have hidden greens (not seen from tee boxes), which makes it tough if you are not familiar with the layout. I enjoy this course, as it brings out great memories of my youth, playing with MY Dad back in the day, and my first encounter with 'gas carts'. (early 80s) Great day had by all!
Much Like a Mountain Course
Course was green and in over-all good condition. Greens were a little slow. Need to make sure what sign for #13 tee says as we found the tees in a different place. With just a little more effort, the place could really shine. However the cart situation (it was very jumpy and governor seemed to be trying to kick in at times but it could not and thus made a bad squealing sound) needs to be addressed.
Pine Forest Golf- A good experience
The course is in a beautiful setting. It s well maintain but the clover has overtaken the greens. Once it's gone the course will be excellent. It is a very enjoyable experience indeed!!
Nice course==Good value
Pine Forest is a great course. I live on the course and know it well. It challenges you in several spots but overall is not really difficult. Good value for the $$$.
Try It
It wasn't my first time playing there but 3/9/14 was the first time i ever was the fisrt person/group on the course. It was right after a big rain and that morning was a little chilly. It turned out to be a very nice day and in fact we ended up playing another around cause we got done and had plenty of time. course is very nice and know that i will be playing out there again soon and often.
Challenging For Beginners
As a beginning golfer( 3 months experience) I found this too be a very challenging course. The course was in great condition. Very fast greens. Lots of elevation and blind tees. Overall a very enjoyable experience even if my score didn't reflect it.
Great layout with great potential
This is a really cool layout that uses the natural features in really cool ways. It's not an easy track at all. This is target golf and the greens are postage stamps with massive undulations. With a little hard work by the greens keeper and some good weather this course could be in really good shape and would make it even more enjoyable. You won't find a big club house here, this is small town golf at its best.
January Golf
We took a few days off and stayed at the Hyatt Lost Pines. Luckily being in Central Texas we were able to find a pretty nice day (mid 70's but windy) to get in a round. We chose Pine Forrest because the rate through Golf Now was only $22 per person. I played the course once before and remembered that is had several really nice holes and even had several along the Colorado River. Since it was January it was not as beautiful as it would be in Spring or Summer, but it was still great. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great deal on a nice course.
