Pine Forest Golf Club
About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

fun
My partner and I always enjoy a round at Pine Forest. The staff is always friendly, we seldom have to wait because of slow play, the carts are always clean and ready to go, and we usually find as many balls as we lose.
its a good course to play during the week
l usually dont have issues with this course but they booked a tournament the same day we played which is not a problem excep that i play fast and we caught the tournament the cart guy said we were playing to fast and that the back nine was going to take three and a half to four hours to play thats a full round of golf so we quit at nine I was very disappointed because I like the back nine
Interesting course and a great value
Well worth the drive from Austin, given the low rates they post on GolfNow. The greens were good; the fairways were what you'd expect in central Texas in the winter--firm and a bit brown, but certainly playable.
The best thing about the course is the layout. A very interesting variety of holes with elevated tees that make it play shorter than the distance would indicate. If you enjoy driving your cart up a hill to tee off downhill, then repeating the process again, you'll enjoy the back 9.
Good Value with great views, needs attention...
Tough to beat a $25 round even if the the course was not perfect.
Pine Forest layout is a non-traditional golf course, not a long track but ball placement is key to scoring. They use elevations from tee to green and undulations when you reach the green to make the course more challenging.
The course was overly wet and we have not had any rains. So I am assuming drainage can be an issue. Many of the tee boxes were mushing and uneven. PF utilizes the natural landscaping and does not try to change it. This makes for some challenging approaches. Because of this there were several areas marked ground under repair due to the amount of water setting in there. The greens were rolling painfully slow and again were far too moist. Pitch marks were very deep and left the green bumpy. Overall this was a fair track. It is need of attention though, but $25 rounds makes it better.
Maybe it will play better in the warmer months.
Best course in the Austin area for the $$$
Pine forest has a great layout with awesome views. The colorado river runs right along three of the holes, and the reat are in piney hills. It has the feel of a course in east texas or the conroe area. Some serious elevation changes which are challenging but fun. I play this track often and is by far my favorite in the Austin area under $30.
Course in great shape. No issues anywhere. However, please stop pushing the white tees up to the ladies tee spot... it is embaressing

Great Course and staff
Love playing this course, a lot of elevation change some real tricky Par 3's. The fairways as well as the greens are generally in great shape and the staff is always very friendly.
great overall
really enjoyed it, challenging but had alot of fun
Requires some decisions and shotmaking
I had not played this course for about 10 years. I was pleasently surprised at how well it was taken care of during the drought and recent fires. The greens had been overseeded, but I believe this is a great sign of a great winter golf destination. The course requires some perfectly place shots to maintain par,
Challenging and Scenic
Not long, but challenging with tough greens. Very scenic, but grass can be patchy sometimes.
Fairways in good shape and challegingly narrow. Greens a little rough but overall good course.
The course is challenging with narrow fairways and sloping greens. There's little room for error, so irons often come into play. The greens were rough, being heavily sanded/seeded, so putting was difficult. Water hazards are few and the bunkers were soaked and packed. Overall the course is enjoyable and the surroundings are gorgeous.
Very exciting course
This course is great, hidden in the pines of Bastrop this course has a great variety of hills, dog legs, bunkers, and more. I would say it is one of my favorite courses I have played.
had a great time
almost perfect,, course needed a little work(bunkers)
a very fun course
Had a fun time, and the marshal did a good job of keeping play at a good pace. At least 3 holes run alongside the Colorado river. There are a couple of blind tee shots and at least 3 par-3's had huge drops from the tee box to the greens. Greens are good - a bit slow but they roll true. Course is not really walkable due to very steep climbs and drops, and long distances between several holes. Course uses gas carts.
Technical and fun
We played the day after a heavy rain and the course was still wet, but we had a great experi encephalitis and will go back again and again. The douse has a moderately technical layout from the back tees. You won't use the driver whenever possible and will be able to work on your iron accuracy as the greens are on the small side but hold well when you have good spin on your approach shots. Great setting and worth the drive.
Nice course and a great value
Real fun course. Plenty of hills and trees. Very scenic.
Course is in great shape.
Fairways are in good shape and greens are in great shape.
Beautiful course. Hidden gem.
This beautiful, challenging course is hidden off the beaten path in Bastrop. A good drive from Austin, but worth it, especially at the GolfNow.com prices!
Excellent Experience
The course was manicured to perfection yet there was hardly anyone out playing this day. There was no sense of being rushed through the course and we enjoyed getting out and playing at a leisurely pace. Still we finsihed up in just over 4 hours.
This course has great features!!
happy with the course!!
