Pine Forest Golf Club
About
Built by Don January in 1979, Pine Forest Golf Club in Bastrop, Texas provides a true golf adventure through sneaky elevation changes and red bluffs, with blind tee shots and holes along the Colorado River. No. 3 is a picturesque par 3, playing 170 yards downhill, with a green framed by the red bluffs. On no. 6, keep the tee shot right to avoid a blind second shot, and watch out for the tough, two-tiered green. The seventh hole plays along the Colorado, and is protected by a massive cottonwood tree on the left. On the back, make note that the highest point on the course is the 11th green. For the home stretch, make the most of the two downhill par 3s. No. 12 plays 180 yards and you'll need to leave it below the hole. The 16th hole is longer at 225 yards and is protected by a beautiful oak tree on the left.

Slow play!!!!
Conditon of greens - very slow and patchy/ course in general needs attention - 1 star.
Pace of play - Took 3 Hrs to play 10 holes. I couldn't see 3 more hours to finish - 1 Star.
Counter help very rude. - 1 Star
Love this course.
Love playing Pine Forest. It is one of the finest golf courses in the area and you cant beat the daily price, but with some specials it even makes it better.
This course has a nice layout with scenic views
I traveled from Houston to meet up with a friend that lives in Austin. We decided to try it out and see what the course had to offer. I booked the tee times thru Golf Now which gave me some great rates of $22.00 per player. The Pros - Nice course with scenic view. The fairways were nice and pludh and had no problem hitting off of them. The Cons - Greens need to be cut or groomed better. They were super slow and were a bit frustrating especially after playing on courses that have nice plush greens with true rolls. The carts are gas which can be a problem by the fumes they put out!
Besides those minor details the course had a nice layout and the beauty and scenic view made up for the cons.
Lots of elevation changes.
Fun course to play. There are some beautiful vistas on the back nine from the elevated tees.
Absolutely beautiful course!
Beautiful views of the river and surrounding area. Excellent greens. Staff is very cordial and professional. Staff communicates expectatkon of fast play. We never waited on front side and o ly 2-3 minutes on the tees on the back nine. Unexpected for a Sunday afternoon.
Bad condition, needs attention.
While the staff was friendly, the course was in terrible condition. Even if you drive it right down the middle of the fairway, you will likely be hitting your second shot off dirt. Even $30 for this course is too much. I will not be going back.
Enjoyed the layout and elevation changes
It was wet, cool, and windy when I played, carts on the path. The greens are slow, but well maintained. I really liked the par 3's and the elevated tee boxes, overall an enjoyable experience, we are from the gulf coast and enjoyed the topography of this course.
Friendly staff, abundant wildlife, course is in good shape, and excellent value!
The course was in very good shape, and although the greens were a little slow(it was misting rain), they were in excellent shape. Wildlife was everywhere, and beware of the ducks on #2! They took a disliking to me, and tried to take a hunk out of my leg. Did not see that coming! After escaping the ducks, pace of play was really excellent. Played in just over 3 hours, but could have been much faster if we had not been so busy looking at the scenery and wildlife. There are very challenging holes mixed with holes that are a little more forgiving. All of these factors combined to make for an enjoyable round. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Wow for the price!
Paid $20, took 1.5 hrs to get there from Temple. AMAZING! Course is OUTSTANDING, now I can't play my muni (Sammons) because its no comparision to Pine Forest! My friend from Illinois played also, became his favorite course in Texas :)
I HIGHLY recommend playing here- beautiful views, GREAT greens, rough and fairways. Only $20? I've paid alot more for ALOT less!
Sure, its a drive, but WELL WORTH IT!
Value + Challenging = Win, Win for everyone
This little gem of a golf course is one of the best kept secrets of Bastrop. With tight fairways and undulated greens you really have to play shot to shot. Most of the par 3's are heavily elevated and offer some of the most spectacular views around and with the Colorado river being right next to the course you can imagine the beauty that is around you. Do bring some extra balls because of the tight fairways and the forest of trees around you.
Peaceful & Quiet with a few interesting holes
I always love playing away from the urban areas. This Bastrop course gives you that with a number of holes that are simply surrounded by the pine trees and other vegetation. You even get a good view across the Colorado River now and then. There are a few elevation changes that'll test your game and/or judgement. And you're likely to have a few more shots than normal with the ball above/below your feet.
The greens were in great shape
Great value. The course was in great condition. Overall a great experience.
Well worth the cost and trip.
Some fairway hardpan, but mostly good turf. Greens very good to excellent. Challenging slopes and drop-offs on fairways and greens.
Internet search and online payment has greatly expanded a golfer's access to good deals and hidden golf courses, statewide. We paired up with another twosome from 200 miles away.
One problem: the sliding scale of review conditions does not allow intermediate positions, so it's either bad or great.
Great layout but very very very slow greens.
NICE Layout with varying degrees of elevation. Greens need attention as they were extremely slow
Well maintained great course.
The course was in great shape. The greens were a little slow which was just fine with the four of us! The views are great!
What a great course out in Bastrop!
Pine Forest is a wonderful course. We played a round in the morning (with a super-low deal from Golfnow.com) and decided to play a second round in the afternoon ($7 for the replay round). The course was not crowded at all for our 8:22 am tee time (maybe because it was early February, even though the high ended up being 80-something degrees). You've got to make the drive (about an hour from Austin) out to Bastrop. The fairways were in very good shape and the greens were in excellent shape. This course is very scenic, running along the river for a few holes and up into the rolling hills for a few more. Pine Forest has just enough challenges to make it fun and interesting. I can't wait to go back!
Target golf! Lots of variety
Very scenic golf course. You go from Hill Country to Pine Forest to riverside in the same round...well..same nine. Have some blind shots, but to be expected for a hilly course. I think you have to be a triathelete to be able to walk it without dying. For the money...I don't think there is a better golf experience in the Austin area..and I have lived here most of my life!
Great challenging course.
The course is challenging from the first hole to the last. There are plenty of exciting elevation features here and the scenic views add to the experience. I recommend playing this course at least once and you will soon realize that you want to come back again and again.
Nice Golf Course
Course is always in good shape and not at all expensive. I love to play it.
