Makes you think
I was absolutely blown away by how challenging and unique each hole was. Rarely do I play a course this well designed that is even slightly affordable. Unfortunately it shows in how well it's maintained. The fairways and greens were in decent shape but there were bunkers without sand, or weeds growing out of them. some even had standing water.
Overall i am still shocked at how challenging and long it played. Lots of blind shots and risky ways to cut the corners that tempt you into poor decisions. Definitely will play this one again.
Okay course but still over priced.
I decided to give this course a second chance as I’ve heard it gets better later summer/into the fall. It was better than it was before, but still not a well taken care of course that’s still over priced. The greens are patchy with geese poop on them. Sand bunkers were better but still either filled with weeds or hard as a rock. Fairways are somehow muddy, hard, and patchy all at the same time.
Long fun fairways to tee off on. Weather and evening tee time was great with a good sunset. Was able to finish our full 18 pushing up against the dark.
Not worth anything over $50 with cart.
Drop the price or maintain your course
Staff at check in is usually pretty good. Tee times are a free for all but if no one is 20-30 mins behind you, you’ll be fine. Otherwise you’ll have a group that is told to tee off early is driving while you’re hitting your second shot.
$52 for 9 holes and a cart on a Sunday isn’t terrible. But it’s pretty disappointing when the greens are beat up and bunkers are literal holes with road base and weeds. You can miss your ball hiding in a bunker because it’s swallowed by weeds lol.
I like this course but the price should drop or the money coming in needs to be spent to buy real sand and maintain the greens. It has potential!
Good value
Great layout. Very long course. Multiple tee options though. Course is very challenging. Staff was friendly, course was in good shape. If the course maintenance improves slightly, this is a five star course.
Diabolical Course
8000+ yards from the tips is insane! Even from the blue tees it’s still over 7k. Course was in ROUGH shape. You can tell thus course used to be amazing, buts struggling. It’s WAY over priced for the condition of the course. But the layout was fun and difficult if you’ve never played here before.
With all the rain we got this year, course conditions got better.
However they still have lots of works to be done specially on bunkers and fairways.
Was better many years ago
Played 7/20, tee time 11:40, played as a single and paired with 2 nice guys. One guy played course many years ago. Very slow; 2.5 hours front 9. Worse on back 9. Skipped 2 holes to get ahead. Still over 5 hours. Course condition: 1-10, 10 great, greens 7, fairways 5, tees 5, bunkers 0. Nice practice chipping and putting areas. Bar ok, bathroom not ok.
2-3 holes absolutely littered with with droppings from geese, an excessive amount really. Fairways are not in good condition. Playing from the dirt on a fairway in some areas. Bunkers are littered with weeds, and those that aren’t are as hard as concrete. Used to play this course at its best for a whopping $25. More than triple the price now for a course that is really just unkept. Though better than years past, I will not be returning.
much improved
The course conditions have improved a lot.
I drive from Littleton to play this course. That is why I wouldn't recomend it to a friend
It's nicer than reviews say
I really didn't know what to expect with all the bad reviews but I had already paid for the round before I read them.
The course is a little rough but it appears the new greens keeper is making a difference it's tough to criticize the course when he hasn't even been there a year. The sand traps really need help there is no real sand in them maybe just toss the ball out and hit from the grass. As long as your group agrees to that it's a good option.
Ther have tee boxes covering a 2000 yard difference from tips to front. With that anybody can be happy.
You need to keep the ball in the fairway or you probably won't find it. I lost about a dozen most of which should have been found on a different course. For the price with a cart it was worth it and I will try it again.
I am new to colorado springs and this was the first course I have played
Mountain plains golf...
This golf course features some serious high grass rough and undulating greens throughout and L-O-N-G! In fact, this is the longest golf course in Colorado at a little over 8,000 yards from the tips and I found that out the hard way... and in a driving rainstorm from hole#9 through hole#14! Hole#9-#12 = The Gauntlet and I went EVEN through that stretch, so I was very happy with that accomplishment! Manicured golf course? No. It's classic mountain plains golf so if you know what that is, you're cool with it but if not, be aware and beware. Mountain plains golf is different; gritty, thatch grass, dry conditions, especially around the greens. Lush and wet in the valleys so very difficult to adjust to during the round. Again, NOT manicured so now you know. Cheers!
traps?
Nice course but the driving range is just nets while under construction and the sand traps, is that really sand? awful crusty and hard.
