Disappointing course condition
This was the first time I've played the course in 2024. I know the course has gone through a number of owner/management changes over the past several years. It was my understanding that the current owners were committed to improving the condition of the course. Last year I would have said they were well on their way. As of my round yesterday, I'm not sure they are still committed. Most of the greens were largely dead. The fairways were OK in comparison but still not great. I wouldn't enter a score in GHIN because the course slope and rating don't reflect the current course condition. Hope they can turn it aournd.
Slow play
They should not allow walkers during prime time. It took us 4:30 hours because of the walkers ahead of us.
Patriot's Glen - if not for the greens
We played on 7 AUG 24 - the night before, they had 3/4" of rain. The course had not drained well in many spots (on #8, the pond overflowed into the fairway; on #12, I lost a ball in a flooded fairway bunker).
The disappointing part of the round was that the majority of the greens had been ruined by a fungus/some disease which made them un-puttable for scoring purposes. The course had apparently knocked $10 off the greens fees for this reason, so take that into consideration if you choose to play. My home course had similar greens and it's taken them over a year to get them back, so I recommend contacting the course to find out the green conditions before booking a time.
The course wanders through a lot of housing on the back nine, so it would be a bit challenging to walk and keep up the pace of play.
This is not a reflection on Patriot's Glen specifically, but the first green had so many unrepaired ball marks that it made the start of the round feel like we were in for a disappointment.
There are lots of holes with good shot values for players at all levels. I really wanted to enjoy the course, and would have if the greens were in better shape.
The bar/restaurant is really attractive - lots of tables/bar space and plenty of TV screens.
Down Hill.
Too wet. Greens had black mold or a fungus. Areas in the fairway were soaked and grass dying. Played there about 4 weeks ago and course was looking pretty good. Since then it took a bad turn and is crap.
Greens are in terrible shape. Black mold from poor drainage and poor maintenance
Good day golfing
The course overall was in good shape new golf carts with GPS were awesome. The layout had been changed since last time I was there and I liked the new layout. Only issue with course is greens were in terrible condition so putting was horrible. The only other issue is I golfed during the main part of the day and they did not have a refreshment cart out on the course with the heat index over 100. Overall I was satisfoed and I’m sure they plan to fix the greens
Great course for a great price.
Staff is always helpful and friendly. Tee times are usually not a problem and the starter will work with you. A+ guys
Going backwards
This course has gone downhill several times in the last 10-12 years. When it goes, the greens decline quickly and get in very poor condition. Sadly, the greens are in terrible condition and may get worse. The rest of the course is in reasonable condition but the poor greens overwhelm everything. Mostly they are slow, bumpy, and have dying patches with little or no grass. It is hard to envision this will turn around anytime soon.
Go for golf, stay for the food
That’s not saying much honestly, greens are in terrible shape, they were in bad shape years ago during its demise in the late 00’s. The soil composition needs a little help and there needs to be green side fans to help mitigate moisture issues. The green are cut long, very long. They have to be in order to scrape buy for the year with the aforementioned issues. It’s a 2 putt pickup honestly. Great undulations, they just don’t have the breaks and challenges in them when the greens are cut at .225. Moisture has always been this courses biggest threat. The carts are not bad at all, gas powered so that kinda sucks. GPS seemed accurate. The driving range is BYOB, I’ve donated a few hundred this year. The best part of the place is the food. The bacon egg and cheese on a ciabatta bun is the best breakfast sammich they got. The smash burger with all the fixings was amazing. Bring a towel and hand wipes because I couldn’t grip the club after eating. Not much else to this course, I wouldn’t pay $3400/year to play here infinitely, even if I played 200+ rounds a year, I would rather pay to experience a better quality course. Give it 3-5 years and about 3.5 million dollars to renovate bunkers, get some real sand, renovate greens and approaches and it should finally be worth $50/round
Greens are in terrible shape
I know the weather's been terrible heat wise, but the greens and the fairways are in terrible shape I play at many other courses and their course are nowhere near as bad as this, and they had the same weather
Bright future
New owners are about to turn this into a world-class facility. Fun layout, currently needs a little TLC from the harsh summer. Still a fun day.
Course in terrible shape
I belong to a private country club so I’m used to pristine conditions. I used to play Patriots Glen a lot before I joined a private club. In fact I was a member at PG. They started to put a lot of money into the clubhouse, new putting green, new driving range, new golf carts, etc. unfortunately the people in charge must not know anything about actual greenskeeping. The putting green was uncut. Practicing on it was virtually worthless because it rolled nothing like a normal green. One putts were virtually impossible outside of ten feet because the greens were in such bad shape. The tee boxes were abysmal. The fairways were rife with holes and bald spots. I played here with a friend because we always play my club and wanted something different plus I wanted to see how PG was doing since I knew the course had changed owners and the new owners appeared to be spending money to make the course better. But, once again we were highly disappointed. I’ve been playing this course off an on for over twenty years through multiple owners and even a four or five year period when it layed fallow. It’s a good layout but the inconsistency of the conditions to me is unprecedented. I’ve played golf on over 100 courses in four or five countries other than the US and I’ve never seen a course be so good in the beginning then move to one of the worst I’ve ever seen then back to pretty good and now back again to horrible. I’ve always rooted for Patriots Glen but finally I’m giving up. Until management realizes that all the nice clubhouses and new golf carts in the world don’t make up for awful playing conditions. Even at $51 as a hot rate on golf now we felt overcharged for this round. My advice, if your a real golfer and not someone that shoots over 100 every time they play, don’t waste your money.
Enjoyed the track.
Loved the course & layout. First time playing here. Green fairways & greens. Greens generally flat. Some fairways blind from the tees but, the carts have GPS screens so you know where the group is in front of you. Normally I don't keep score, I just enjoy playing at 77 yrs. old. When you are even par the first nine with one birdie and one bogey you get the pencil out. Shot 74. The fifth time I shot under my age. Three birdies & five bogeys
