Tijeras cares the most
Play golf all over Southern California and I challenge you to find a course that actually cares about the conditions and experience. I am not even a member and this place is just a solid experience every time. The driving range is average, clubhouse is average, but the Tijeras employees act and make this feel like a nice private midwest club.
The carts are newer and ride the best out of any in the OC but no GPS. The course itself is in pretty good shape for this time of year. The greens are probably the fastest out of the publics in OC right now. They are redoing all of the bunkers with this beautiful white sand and its been a great cosmetic change.
The one issue is the pace of play is typically average to slow. They typically have a ranger out patrolling but he isn't doing much pushing. Gaps are the norm here.
Overall, great golf experience, really a tale of two nines which provides a nice variety of holes. Keep doing your thing Tijeras. Under 40 bucks. Sold
Staff unkindness
course is good!
Cost is more expensive than golf course value.
Worst thing is staff unkindness.
Our member heard that staff talk about us, bad word.
Lesson of staff is needed.
Wow. Course was spectacular.
Terrific conditions tee to green, just be aware that there are bunker renovations on several holes. This does not really effect play. Great layout, poses a challenge from the 6500 yard blues, but you are rewarded when you hit a good shot. Lots of downhill holes, so the 6500 plays a little shorter. Great views of various mountains and foothills. Great course, worth a drive.
Twilight Round... Marshal was Obsessed w/ Getting Us Off Course at “Sunset”...
Nice course. However, Marshal was a piece of work. We were putting on 17. Marshal hovering nearby on cart path. Told us we had to go to clubhouse immediately because it was “after sunset.” He would not let us tee off on 18. There was easily another 30 min. left of daylight and we would have finished long before dark. What was the point? Our group was not happy, no tips for anyone back at the clubhouse, we went straight to the parking lot and drove away. Nice job Mr. Marshal! Next time, don’t take your “position of authority” so seriously. You ruined what was up to that point an enjoyable round of golf. Do you remember why we’re all out there? F-U-N. Thanks for nothing.
Grab a Back 9 Special While You Can
First off the tee this morning for their Back 9 offer. Finished in just over an hour. Had to dodge some sprinklers still going, but that was more fun than an inconvenience. The back 9 holes were in perfect shape, greens were receptive and still had a little speed even while wet. Rolled true. It's a terrific deal...but please don't tell anyone else.
Oh....and brand spanking NEW carts today. There are many courses down here in South Orange County that have tired, beaten down carts and they really do make a difference. Thanks for the continued investment Tijeras.
Also, make sure to pay attention to the pin placement card, especially on 17. If it's location 2 (far back right), you can't get there from the right side of the fairway.
Tijeras a treat!
Course is a challenge, but even better the various views from around the course were awesome.
The greens and the bunkers.
My answer to the question, would you recommend it to a friend? Yes when it's in good shape. Value for the money, definately not. Not right now. Since the fall, the greens have been aeriated at least three times and have had sand on them ever since the fall. Obviously they are having problems with the greens, especially the front nine, they are very bumpy. But at the club house there is no mention about the greens. And to charge what they do on the weekends, it's not a value at all. Also most of the bunkers out away from the clubhouse are joke. Lot's with no sand what so ever and a lot of rocks and pebbles. Again, Tijeras can be a great course when in good shape, but its far from it right now. There is no excuse with the weather we've been having to have such lousy greens. Dont know what the issues are with fixing the bunkers and getting the greens smoother, but constantly aeriating them is not the answer.
A fav OC course
Solid track all around. Course in great condition. Green fairways and nice rolling greens. Friendly staff. Nice driving range and putting/chipping area. Played almost all the OC courses and this one is a top 3 on my list. Got a teeoff.com deal that made this round even juicier. Will definitely be back.
Top 3 OC Public Course
I've lived in OC my whole life but only recently picked up the golf bug (playing every week for about a year). I had stayed away from this course because it can be expensive, if you don't know where to look. I have been playing as a single here from deals on teeoff.com for only $60 instead of the normal $90. Even at $90 this course lives up to the price. I played there last week and it was PERFECT and I have another tee time there this Wed. Fairways, greens, rough, beautiful views of the Orange County hills and mountains. Extremely well maintained course with 2 very different 9's. I love this course and everything it has to offer and recommend it to anyone, but player beware the back 9 you may lose some balls with some challenging hazard holes.
most fun public course in OC
My favorite course in OC. Two distinct nines. The front is typical Ted Robinson, looks and plays like Tustin Ranch. Through homes, some water holes with a signature par 3. The back is completely different. It is played through a canyon/wilderness, except for holes 10 and 18, you have OB on both sides. 14 is a very picturesque par three with elevation. I highly recommend this course. They also have something called "nine and dine" where you tee off the back in the early am, play nine and then have breakfast for like $40.
"Hidden golf gem in the OC area'
As an avid golfer such as me, it is always a plus when you come across an amazing golf course locally, so i decided to check out Tijeras Creek located in Rancho Santa Margarita. Believe it or not for the average golfer the twilight prices are very reasonable. Staff was very friendly when i drove in the club, bag drop off and pro shop was a pleasant experience. My tee time was at 4:30pm considering the 90 degree weather that day i figured i'd give it a go. Got paired up with a local gentleman named Larry who loves to play this course. My local guy had told me that the front 9 was a bit easier than the back 9. My first impression of the course is definitely a links type course with water, slopes and big trees in play, at least for the front 9. Long hitters would have a feast on holes 1 to 3 very wide open fairways and long ,especially when you tee off black. The fairways were well maintained, hitting a good iron shot will definitely leave a divot on the fairway. Getting on the greens was an experience as well because the greens were very firm and perfect, speed was fast at times. And finally REAL sand on the sand traps, no rocks and no cement like sand.Back 9 involved some elevated tee boxes with an amazing views of the mountains, creeks and slopes are in play with narrow fairways, an accurate tee shot is a MUST. Larry had mentioned to me that holes 14 & 16 are 2 signature par3's with elevated tee's and an amazing view from above. Overall experience was A+ i love this course, it is very playable for any type of players. I encourage locals and non locals to come play this wonderful course, very reasonable and well worth it.

Beauty
Great course to play. Very well maintained, greens are challenging. Back 9 more difficult than the front 9. A fair challenge overall. Love playing there.
Cart path only
Played the course on Monday, and we were told cart path only due to the rain on Sunday. Understandable for the front nine, but by the time we get to the back nine course was dry and still cart path only. Took us close to 5 hrs to play, wow. Course was decent, and lots of maintainance people working still at 10am ????? Hmmmm
